Kimutaku's Tsuki no Koibito ~ Moon Lovers~ Reach 22.4% Ratings
From the popular idol group SMAP, Kimura Takuya's new Fuji Television Getsu9 drama, Tsuki no Koibito ~ Moon Lovers (9:00 p.m. ~ 10:09 p.m.) aired its first episode on the 10th. According to initial reports from video research, the average ratings reached 22.4% in the Kanto area. In Kansai the ratings were at 20.2%, while Nagoya was at 23.6%. At the highest, it peaked at 24.5% in the Kanto area.
Of the drama serials that are airing this spring, it surpassed ratings from Abe Hiroshi's detective drama, Shinzanmono (TBS), which originally had the highest ratings at 21.0%.
In Moon Lovers, Kimura plays the boss of an interior design company who becomes entangled in a love story. Appearing with him are Taiwanese actress Lin Chi-ling from the movie Red Cliff, Shinohara Ryoko, who plays the role of an interior designer in the drama, and Kitagawa Keiko, who plays a model coming from a wealthy family. The drama will develop many storylines revolving around the characters.
Following the drama, Fuji TV also aired the variety show SMAP X SMAP (10:09 p.m. ~ 11:09 p.m.). The live broadcast featured all three actresses and attracted average ratings of 20.4%, which ended the night on a high note.

SMAP's Takuya Kimura is "Cute" as the King of Tea in a 3D CM?
SMAP member Takuya Kimura attended the press conference of the new tea brand "TeaO" by Asahi the other day. In the new CM, Kimura had been playing the role of "Tea King ('Tea O' in Japanese)" of the Tea Kingdom where everyone likes black tea. Kimura would be acting with anime characters such as tea pots, tea cups, tea leaves, a cake monster and a macaroon in the CM, showing a brand new side of him. In addition, the 3D version will be on air in the cinema from May 15th.
On the day, Kimura watched the CM at Roppongi TOHO Cinema with the 3D glasses, and heard the screaming "Cute!!" from the audience. "The voice of 'Cute!' was more surprising to me than the 3D CM!" said Kimura, "I drink this in the concert to clear my throat." He did some promotion to their coming-up national tour as well.
Yamato, Hello Kitty Mark 36th Birthday with KimuTaku
The Space Battleship Yamato anime franchise and Sanrio's Hello Kitty character will celebrate their shared 36th birthday this year with a "Hello Kitty to Daniel no Eiga Daisuki!! ~Space Battleship Yamato yori~" (Hello Kitty and Daniel Love Films!! From Space Battleship Yamato) show at Tokyo's Sanrio Puroland theme park.
Yamato premiered in Japan in 1974, the same year that Hello Kitty was "born." Yamato will resurface on December 1 as a live-action film starring SMAP band member Takuya Kimura ("KimuTaku").
The promotional show will feature Hello Kitty herself, dressed in the same battlesuit that Kimura and the other actors playing the Yamato battleship's crew members wear in the film. The show will run from August 1 to August 31 at the theme park. Starting on July 3, 50,000 people will receive limited-edition mobile accessory straps with the battlesuit-wearing Hello Kitty and other characters when they buy advance tickets for the film.
