“Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest.
The soul, uneasy, and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.”
― Alexander Pope, An Essay on Man

He Had Such Quiet Eyes by Bibsy Soenharjo
He had such quiet eyes
She did not realize
They were two pools of lies
Layered with the thinnest ice
To her, those quiet eyes
Were breathing desolate sighs
Imploring her to be nice
And to render him paradise
If only she’d been wise
And had listened to the advice
Never to compromise
With pleasure-seeking guys
She’d be free from ‘the hows and whys’
Now here’s a bit of advice
Be sure that nice really nice
Then you’ll never be losing at dice
Though you lose your heart once or twice |

That perches in the soul,

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,

Knock-kneed,
coughing like hags,

Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge."

"here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)"
i carry your heart with me,

CATATAN HARI INI
aku nganggur lagi
semalam ibu tidur di kursi
jam dua lebih aku menulis puisi
aku duduk menghadap meja
ibu kelip-kelip matanya ngitung hutang
jam enam sore:
bapak pulang kerja
setelah makan sepiring
lalu mandi tanpa sabun
tadi siang ibu tanya padaku:
kapan ada uang?
jam setengah tujuh malam
aku berangkat latihan teater
apakah seni bisa memperbaiki hidup?

IBU
jika kau menagih baktiku
ini sudah kupersembahkan ibu
waktu hidup yang tak kubiarkan beku
itulah tanda baktiku kepadamu

HANYUT AKU
Hanyut aku, kekasihku!
Hanyut aku
Ulurkan tanganmu, tolong aku.
Sunyi sekelilingku!
Tiada suara kasihan, tiada angin mendingin
tiada air menolak ngelak
Dahagakan kasihmu, hauskan hatimu, mati aku sebabkan diammu.
Langit menyerkap, air berlepas tangan, aku tenggelam.
Tenggelam dalam malam.
Air di atas mendidih keras.
Bumi di bawah menolak ke atas.
Mati aku, kekasihku, mati aku!
