Nokia and Google to 0ffer Google Search to Nokia customers worldwide
Industry leaders collaborate to provide mobile users fast and easy access to relevant information
Mobile World Congress 2008,Barcelona, Spain/Espoo, Finland - Nokia and Google today announced thatGoogle's popular search engine will be integrated with the Nokia Searchapplication. The integration will begin in select markets with theNokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator and Nokia 6220 classic.Google search will be extended to additional Nokia handset models inthe future. Ultimately, Nokia will make Google search available to itscustomers in over 100 countries around the world, serving mobile ownersspeaking more than 40 languages.
Nokia Search, now with Google,offers fast and easy access to web information from the handset. Inaddition, Nokia Search also makes it possible for users to searchcontent on their device and use local search engines for a completesearch experience. Nokia Search is available on many devices andprovides direct access with one click from the active standby screen,saving users time and steps in their searching. Once users have foundthe information they are seeking, Nokia Search enables users to act onthat information by engaging device assets such as maps, messaging orthe browser with just one click.

The collaboration announced todaybuilds on previous cooperation between Nokia and Google. Google searchhas previously been available on Nokia Internet tablets, and last yearthe Nokia N95 8GB became the first mobile device to fully supportYouTube, the video-sharing platform owned by Google.

Nokia revealed four new phones today at theMobile World Congress in Barcelona: the highly rumored dual sliderNokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator and Nokia 6220 classic.
Nokia N96Nokia N96 is a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE dual slide handset withdual-band HSDPA support for worldwide coverage. N96 runs on S60 3rdedition, FP2 and has a 2.8" QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) TFT display with16M colors. The feature-packed Nokia N96 features GPS with A-GPSsupport and geo-tagging for photos, Wi-Fi, scorching 16GB of onboardmemory, plus a microSD slot.

Nokia N96has a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and powerfuldual LED flash. It also records video in VGA resolution at 30 fps. Thephotos and videos can be watched at the TV screen thanks to the TV-outsupport.
The connectivity set sports Wi-Fi b/g with UPnP support, microUSBv2.0, DVB-H class C, a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and Bluetooth v2.0with A2DP stereo audio.
The multimedia gear is the same as in Nokia N95 8GB: FM radio withRDS, Internet radio, MP3 player, video playback in-phone, as well as ona TV, with up to VGA resolution. The Windows media and Flash Lite 3.0support complete the set.
One of the obvious shortcomings is the feeble Li-Ion BF-5L batterywith a capacity of 950mAh. Nokia N96 weighs 126g, and is a tag tallerthan Nokia N95 8GB, the other dimensions pretty much on par.
The phone is expected to start shipping during 3Q 2008 with an estimated retail price of 550 EUR before taxes and subsidies. |

Nokia N78Another loaded handset joining the Nseries, Nokia N78 comes in thebar form factor. Both Nokia N96 and N78 have a few design elements incommon, starting with the underlying resemblance to Nokia N81. NokiaN78 however offers stereo loudspeakers.

Nokia N78is also a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone with dual-band HSDPA support.The novelties are geotagging and the integrated FM transmitter,allowing music to be played on any FM radio. Also to mention is themultimedia menu with Navi wheel.
Nokia N78 uses S60 3rd edition, FP2 and has a 2.4" QVGA (240 x 320pixels) TFT display with 16M colors. Nokia N78 offers A-GPS support,Wi-Fi, 70MB on-board memory, expandable via microSD slot.
Nokia N78 has a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeissoptics. It also records video in VGA resolution at 15fps but is stillcapable of playing VGA video clips at 30 fps.
The connectivity set includes the mentioned Wi-Fi b/g with UPnP,microUSB v2.0, 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DPstereo audio.
Talking of music, Nokia N78 has enough to offer with an MP3 player,FM transmitter, stereo FM radio, Internet radio and MPEG-4 player.
Nokia N78 is powered by the much more capable 1200mAh (BL-6F). Thephone is expected to start shipping at 2Q 2008 with an estimated retailprice of 350 EUR before taxes and subsidies. |

Nokia 6210 NavigatorNokia 6210 Navigator is expected to inherit the successful Nokia6110 navigator. The newcomer is marked to be the company's firstGPS-enabled mobile device (A-GPS also onboard) with an integratedcompass for pedestrian guidance.

Nokia 6210 Navigatorcomes with Nokia Maps 2.0, announced today, and includes full voice andvisual turn by turn guidance at no extra cost. Combined with anaccelerometer, detecting changes in direction and orientation, thebuilt-in compass makes it easy to follow the map when exploring yoursurrounds on foot. When you turn the device, the map automaticallymaintains its orientation. The integrated Nokia Maps 2.0 applicationwill plot the quickest route to the desired destination and illustrateit on the map.
In-car navigation sounds quite friendly with the pre-installedone-touch navigation, full voice guidance and self-mount car kit of theNokia 6210 Navigator. Upon a wrong turn, the device is said toautomatically calculate a new route.
GPS is of course the pivotal functionality, but Nokia 6210 Navigatorhas a decent set of features to offer along: 2.4" TFT QVGA display withup to 16M colors, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support with dual-band HSDPA.The phone runs on the S60 3rd edition OS. The built-in 120MB of storagespace can be further expanded via microSD cards.
The new navigator has a 3.2megapixel camera with LED flash. Thecamera is also capable of video recording at MPEG4 SP VGA (640 x 480)at up to 15 fps. Video playback is set to MPEG4 SP VGA at up to 30 fps(25 fps to display).
Among the additional features are the music player, visual radio andstereo FM radio. Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and AVRCP support, as alongwith the 2.5mm AV connector and microUSB slot complete the connectivityoptions.

Nokia 6220 classicsports a 5 megapixel camera with Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics anda 16M-color 2.2" TFT QVGA display. The camera is capable of recordingMPEG-4 video clips at VGA resolution and 30 fps. Geotagging support isavailable, while the Nokia Maps 2.0 application is preloaded.
Nokia 6220 classic also offers a MP3 player and FM radio with RDS.The built-in memory of 120MB can be further expanded via microSD cards(up to 8GB supported).
Nokia 6220 classic is a quad-band GSM/EDGE handset with dual-bandHSDPA support. The handset features a microUSB slot, 2.5 mm AVconnector and stereo Bluetooth. It is powered by a Li-Ion battery with900 mAh capacity (BP-5M).
The Nokia 6220 classic is expected to start shipping in the 3Q 2008in select markets at about 325 EUR, before taxes and subsidies. |
