Question about MiG-29N

I've a chat with my friend recently, which he is a sub-supplier to ATSC. He once had a talk with ATSC Engineer. According to him, actually, a very few of our MiG-29 are combat capable. While others are only airworthy condition. Anybody can confirm this?

The aircraft maybe combat capable, but are our fighter pilots combat capable too? For that matter, are our entire airforce capable as well?

tengok jugak depa punya definition of combat capable tuh.

our air force are not entirely combat capable.

some are cooks, some are clerks, some are techno geeks and some are engineers. there's even those who, like you, assume and presume things.

Because our Air Force, like many other air forces are not like the US Marines who are riflemen first and foremost

MiG29N ni pd pandangan aku, TUDM akan deploy to the maximum service life and then retire them since by that time the su30 already enter into service, additional procurementpun mungkin su30s juga..

With 'tiris' and 'bocor' sindrome in our G, this could happen. Maintenance with only one eye open.

you need to understand the different between combat capable and airworthy or flyable condition. An easy example is Yugoslav AF during Balkan war. All their MiG-29 are not combat capable, without a functioning radar or IRST. They can only use their GSh-30-1 cannon, and the Yugoslav AF still sending them to fight against fully capable NATO a/c. That's why the loss are very high.

So, the F-5E will outlast the MiG-29N. Same with other airforce, still continue to use their MiG-21 and start retiring the MiG-29. Seems that the older aircraft are built to last. Think B-52.

if that is your definition of combat capable,

then last I heard, they are combat capable.

Most of these aircraft have just completed their scheduled 1,000 hours maintenance and overhaul.
