In what cases do we need /don't need goverment intervention (GI)?

for example in nature disaster case....we need GI to supply food, drinking water, medical assistance, medicine, etc.. for the flood victims and

we don't need GI to tell us how many kids we should have..like in china one child policy

What's your opinion?

A good question I think. Generally, govt would have lots of statistical data/information of it's people, population, products, resources...and so on. As it would be pertinent that we plan our own household according to our affordability, some times if this is out of control the govt may impose a policy on nos. of children to control population growth..........to ensure sufficient resources to support future population like, schools, housing, jobs, food sources...and so on lah.

With regard to natural disaster, we know how much pain that will cause victims. Usually it is beyond the individual's capacity to weather it on their own. Think of earth quake, fire, floods etc. The govt would usually have the resources to offer immediate assistance. In big disasters even other nations offer assistance. It's the humanitarian thing to do. I would not call it an "intervention" at all.

i guess how important GI is has to be answered with the type of administration. say if it is a communist country, then GI is definitely there all the time. if it is democracy, the voice of people should determine the situation, and so on...
GI doesnt have to exclusively involve the citizen's decisions but the government itself has to know what is the best for the people.

..i personally think no one likes GI that's being shoved down one's throat whether one likes it or not...and be told not to challenge their ideas... they may say it's good for you but actually it's either for their own benefit or to upgrade their waning popularity.

..sad to say that there are problems that need priority attention but all we hear is "We will look into it" and nothing is done...
