Pilatus Trainer Aircraft for Malaysia

(Source: Pilatus AG; issued Feb. 20, 2006)

The Ministry of Defence, Malaysia has signed a contract for ten PC-7 MkII Turbo Trainer Aircraft, Ground Based Training Systems and a complete Integrated Logistic Support package, having a sales value of over CHF 70 million. Deliveries are expected to take place in 2007.

After a long and intensive evaluation process, Pilatus was once again able to prevail and succeed in securing this important contract with its world renowned Training System.

The Royal Malaysian Air Force is a long established user of Pilatus Aircraft products and training systems, having already in 1982 procured a total of 44 Pilatus PC-7 Turbo Trainer aircraft followed by nine PC-7 MkII in 2000.

This renewed sales success is most noteworthy because, to this date, Pilatus has never lost an existing trainer aircraft customer to the competition. 揙nce Pilatus

AgustaWestland A109LOH Enters Service with the Malaysian Army

(Source: Agusta Westland; issued Feb. 21, 2006)

Following the delivery of the first AgustaWestland A109 LOH to the Malaysian Army on 8th December 2005, three aircraft have now entered service with the Army Aviation unit at Kluang. The entry into service followed a period of intensive flying training for Malaysian Army pilots which was conducted both in Italy and Malaysia and included conversion to type training and IFR flight training, as well as training for maintenance personnel. Deliveries of the remaining A109 LOH aircraft to the Malaysian Army will continue through 2006.

Spares and logistic support is being provided by AgustaWestland and DRB-HICOM subsidiary Deftech (DRB-Hicom Defense Technologies Sdn Bhd) with facilities now established in Kuala Lumpur and Kluang.

AgustaWestland was awarded a contract by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence for the supply of eleven A109 Light Observation Helicopters (LOHs), a variant of the A109 LUH, together with an initial product support and training package, in late 2003. The A109 LOH, a version of the well known A109 LUH, was selected as the best and most cost effective helicopter following a rigorous process of evaluation run by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence against several competitors. The primary purpose of the LOH is to serve as a cost efficient system for observation, reconnaissance, tactical transport and area suppression missions.

The Malaysian Army Aviation is the first operator of the A109 LOH in Asia and the third customer to start operations worldwide. A109 LUHs are already in service with the South African and Swedish Armed Forces. The A109 LUH, with 61 units ordered so far, is the foremost light twin engine helicopter for military utility and advanced training purposes.

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is one of the largest helicopter companies in the world. The company offers an unrivalled range of helicopters, training and support solutions to satisfy the requirements of civil and military customers. AgustaWestland has its primary operations in Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

RMN To Test Fire Latest Anti-ship Missile Next Week

By Shahrullizan Rusli

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- For the first time in the region, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) will test fire its latest anti-ship missile --the Sea Skua --next week, but the location is still being kept secret.

The Sea Skua has never been used by any Asean navy and it will be the first time that it will be fired from a helicopter.

According to a defence source, RMN's latest helicopter, the Super Lynx 300 has been entrusted the responsibility to launch the British-made weapon.

"The purchase of the Sea Skua had never been announced but has been in RMN's inventory since last year, and will be tested by RMN for the first time next week," the source told Bernama.

According to reports in several defence journals, the purchase of the Sea Skua for RMN's Super Lynx helicopters was sealed in 2001 but details had been kept secret.

The source said that probably only one Super Lynx would be involved in the exercise but the location would be closely watched by RMN's state-of-the art warships like the KD Jebat and KD Lekiu, which are equipped with the sophisticated Seawolf missile system.

It is believed that only one of the missiles - which proved its worth during Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf - will be test-fired during the exercise.

Hmmm... Lets put it this way... Astros launch pod can fire/should fire how many at a time?? Sea skua how many fired at a time??

Anyway.. missiles and rockets differ in price tag greatly... one has a guidance system onboard... the other doesn't... the guidance system costs more than all the other parts in most missiles...

Yeah i know..but they get a regiment of ASTROS for firing..let say SS60, it may cost 4slot onboard and that may rise up to 30-70 rockets fired for all launchers..(i dont know the exact number of the launchers that made the firing test)..dont think a single missile will cost more than all those rockets
