KUCHING: The rollout of the booster dose for the AstraZeneca vaccine will be reviewed by local medical experts.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said he was still waiting its outcome.

“We are still waiting for our local medical experts to review local data for two doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Nov 3).

Dr Sim said currently, the vaccine rollout for the booster dose and third dose of Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines had commenced.

“For Sinovac vaccine recipients, they will receive their next dose after three months of being jabbed with the second dose while for Pfizer, it is six months,” he added.

At the same time, the Local Government and Housing Minister also recommended regular self-testing using rapid test kits (RTKs).

He said a RTK test would be valid for three days, and should be done on a weekly basis as it was important to protect everyone else.

Dr Sim also urged those asymptomatic and low-risk Covid-19 patients to regularly conduct self-health assessment.

“Know your risk, while 99 percent of the cases are asymptomatic or in Category 1, are you willing to take that risk? No one can be spared from the risk of Covid-19,” he said.

He said it was also important to know of the danger signs of Covid-19 and be wary of hypoxia (insufficient oxygen levels).

With Covid-19 being around for almost two years, he said the multiple advancements in technology and measures had been beneficial.

“It shows that if the scientists and medical experts from their entire world put their heads together, we can achieve so much within such a short period of time in pandemic crisis.

“With all these scientific information coming out every day, it is each and everyone’s duty and responsibility not to be misled by the fake news or selective information,” he said.
