Because this is an alpha version, it is not feature complete—there are still many more features to come. Use it with caution, ensuring that your current Opera installation and any other important data are backed up before installing this version.
Introducing Opera extensions
Extensions allow you to easily add new functionality to your Opera browser. Developers can create extensions using familiar open standards: HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript, along with supported APIs. To learn how to create extensions, have a look at our introduction to Opera extensions.
Youtube extension
A selection of add-ons can be chosen from our new extensions catalog. With Opera 11 alpha running, you can install extensions by just clicking on them. A small install window will appear. Click “Install”, and you are done. If you have an extension file stored on your computer, it can also be installed by dragging and dropping it into the Opera window. Link to extensions»
Increasing browsing performance
Opera leaped ahead in recent versions with a new JavaScript engine, and our developers have been hard at work fine-tuning our browser to put Opera even further ahead of the pack in a number of benchmarks with further improvements in browser performance.
An option has now been added to have plug-ins such as Flash content load only when clicked on. This is especially helpful for speeding up browsing on computers that have difficulty handling lots of plug-in content. Simply check the “Enable plug-ins only on demand” box in Preferences → Advanced.
Even the installation process has been simplified to require the fewest steps possible, and the installation package is smaller—streamlined for a faster download.
Enhancing browser features
A new mail panel gives you control over the order in which your accounts and mail items show up. You can just drag items where you want them. You can also now create folders for organizing your mail and newsfeeds. A smart behavior is now implemented that can show the mail panel when you are using it, and hide it when you leave a mail tab.
A new bookmarks bar can be enabled that has replaced the personal bar. This conveniently located toolbar allows quick access to your favorite bookmarks.
Supporting the latest in web technologies
To offer the latest support for rich, dynamic web applications, Opera 11 alpha supports HTML5 server-sent events and websockets. Server-sent events allow a server to push notifications and new content to the browser in real time, while websockets allow for sophisticated communication within web applications that can allow for rich next-generation web applications and multiplayer games.
We appreciate your help in making Opera better. Please report problems you find with our bug wizard or use the forums.
Opera pioneered powerful tabs. In Opera 11, tab stacking lets you drag one tab over another to create a group. Now, you can keep dozens of webpages open, organized and under control.
2. A safer address field
Opera's new address field hides the complexity of long web addresses and gives you better control of your security when browsing. Click on the badge for the website to see information about the site you are visiting. You can even get information about Opera Turbo data savings.
3. Extensions support
You can now browse Opera's extensions catalog to add new functionality easily and customize Opera just how you want it.
4. Visual mouse gestures
Mouse gestures are another Opera innovation that has been made easier-to-use with the addition of an interface that guides you. This allows new users to discover the speed and power that mouse gestures offer.
5. Better performance
Our developers have been hard at work fine-tuning our browser engine to put Opera even further ahead in a number of benchmarks. In Opera 11, pages load faster and complex applications run more smoothly.
6. Enhanced HTML5 support
Support for new standards and HTML5 technologies means that rich, dynamic web applications and multiplayer games can be supported by Opera 11.
7. Extended auto-update
A new auto-update system ensures that your extensions and Opera Unite apps are always up to date with the latest enhancements.
8. Search predictions from Google
Search suggestions predict queries as you type, making searching quicker and easier. Google search predictions are now built into Opera. When using the search field or searching from the address field with the 'g' search keyword, Google search predictions will appear.
9. Plug-ins only on demand
An option has now been added to have plug-ins such as Flash content load only when clicked. This is especially helpful to speed up browsing on computers that have difficulty handling lots of plug-in content.
10. Enhanced email in your browser
A new mail panel gives you control over the order in which your accounts and mail items show up. You can just drag items where you want them. The mail panel can also show your mail panel when you are using it and hide when you leave a mail tab.
11. Faster installation
Even with its many new features, Opera 11 is 30% smaller than Opera 10.60. That means that Opera downloads more quickly and installs in fewer steps. Getting Opera on your computer is more easy than ever.

After a mere two days of release candidates, Opera Software has released their Opera 11 desktop browser complete with extensions and their newest innovation, tab stacking.
Opera is known for having a fast development cycle and with Opera 11 the company was keeping up both the development speed and browser speed. The beta was released less than a month ago, 23 November to be precise and in that time we saw nine releases up to the final version.
Opera 11 has seen its fair share of hype over the past month, but why? Well it turns out there have been a huge number of improvements over its predecessor with additions such as; Extensions, Tab stacking, Safer address fields and new Visual mouse gestures.

Additionally the old favourites remain; Opera Link, Opera Turbo and Opera Sync. It seems they've also followed in Google Chromes footsteps and added auto suggest to the address bar and search.

The new installer has also undergone a significant change. When it is run, it unpacks everything in a temporary folder and starts up Opera in installer mode, meaning the installation process takes seconds.
