Serie A leaders Roma returned to their winning ways at the Curi stadium against Perugia last weekend, earning all three points thanks to a 1-0 victory. The win was only their second ever at Perugia in the league, their first coming way back in December 1975. Brazilian fullback Mancini scored the only goal of the game after just three minutes, and the yellow & reds then resolved to hold out against Perugia's attacks for the rest of the game. Satisfied coach Fabio Capello commented after the encounter: "We deserved today's win, the team played with the right attitude this afternoon. It was important to win and I think the final outcome is merited. We could have doubled our lead in the first-half, then we managed the game to our advantage in the second half." Good news for captain Francesco Totti, who picked up the award as best Serie A player for 2003, with Juve's Pavel Nedved, at a ceremony last week in which the voting was cast by his fellow professional footballers. Antonio Cassano was voted best young player. Coppa Italia news is that the yellow & reds were defeated 2-1 at the San Siro stadium by Milan in their quarterfinal first-leg game on Wednesday evening, with Massimo Ambrosini scoring the winner in injury-time after John Carew had leveled Jon-Dahl Tomasson's first-half strike for the hosts. Argentine defender Walter Samuel misses Sunday's game against Sampdoria through suspension but "aeroplanino" Vincenzo Montella is due back following keyhole knee surgery. Roma haven't lost at home against Sampdoria since September 1996, when they were drubbed 4-1.

Can Roma Win Tomorrow...

Totti keeps record-breaking Roma on top
By James Eve

ROME, Jan 18 (Reuters) - AS Roma captain Francesco Totti scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Sampdoria on Sunday to ensure his side maintained top spot at the halfway point of the Serie A season.

The result gave Roma 42 points -- a new half-season record in Serie A -- three ahead of champions Juventus, who beat Siena 4-2 after an Alessandro Del Piero hat-trick, and six ahead of AC Milan, who play Brescia later on Sunday.

Walaupun Del Piero telah menjaringkan hatrick tapi double gol dari Totti menyebabkan As Roma naik takhta liga Serie A....

yanasigawa hatrick <----

Serie A Round 17: Best Eleven Of The Week

Scored a Maradona like goal against Samp (AFP)

01/19/2004. Carlo Zotti (AS Roma)-Replaced injured Pelizzoli with style as he saved a Flachi penalty and made a couple of other important saves that allowed Roma to clinch a record 42 points in 17 games.

Giuseppe Pancaro (AC Milan)-The Rossoneri's unexpected secret weapon against Brescia.

Dario Dainelli (Brescia)-Shevchenko went unnoticed for most of the ninety minutes of play.

Pablo Montero (Juventus)-A gigantic Snowman against Siena.

Aimo Diana (Sampdoria)-The Doriani fell apart when their on-form midfielder left the game through injury. One of Italy's best this season.

Sulley Muntari (Udinese)-Who needs Pizarro when you have a less greedy and more determined Ghanaian at your disposal.

Hidetoshi Nakata (Bologna)-Hide's new marriage has brought incredible results both to himself and to his team. His game against Chievo brought back memories of the Nakata the world admired when he played with a red and yellow jersey on.

Francesco Tavano (Empoli)-Magnificently dribbled past Brechet before serving the ball that allowed Rocchi to stun the San Siro.

Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus)-Mr. Hat-trick against Siena. Welcome back in the Best Eleven Alex, long time no see!

Francesco Totti (AS Roma)-The Capitano Giallorosso appeared lost throughout the entire first half, but when the second began he saw the light again…and so did Roma.

Valery Bojinov-He's not the next Stoichkov, he's the new Stoichkov.

Totti Outlines Objectives For 2004

01/21/2004. AS Roma captain and Italian international forward Francesco Totti has outlined his objectives for the year 2004, with winning the Scudetto with Roma, performing well in EURO 2004 for Italy and marrying long time girlfriend Ilary Blasi all at the forefront.

Totti has so far enjoyed a fine season with his Roma side, and it is no surprise that the Giallorossi are leading the Serie A at the current point in time, having conceded only 7 goals in just 17 matches.

"After last seasons debacle, it would have been impossible to perform worse this year. The players came together as a group and changed their attitudes in the off-season and we are now seeing the rewards," explained the Giallorosso captain.

"Above all, coach Capello has certainly given us confidence and tranquillity, and therefore, he has helped the younger members of the squad grow."

Totti himself has also set himself a few objectives this season. "The Scudetto with Roma and the European Championships with Italy are the most important targets for me this season."

When prompted about his current girlfriend, top Italian model Ilary Blasi, Totti responded, "Ilary has transmitted serenity to me and it has helped me to grow, both as a man and a football player."

"We have talked about the wedding, and the European Championships are this summer. So if not next summer, then we will only say that it is imminent."
