Mahathir did not spend much on subsidies

Contrary to popular belief, Mahathir did not spend much on subsidies as global prices of rice, food, oil and others did not start boom until the early 2000s - in line with the emergence of China's soaring economy.
In fact during the 1990s and early 2000s, most of us were still looking down on China then.
Pak Lah and Najib's govt had much tougher challenges keeping prices low due to the soaring global prices caused by a dynamic China economy then.
Tun M supporters will try to cheat their followers by letting Tun M unfairly take the credit for low global prices then and saying Tun M baik and caring for people by giving generous subsidies when the actual truth is that Tun M gave minimal subsidies and even taxed petrol that we pay. Banyak tipu.
Facts show he reverse is true and that Pak Lah and Najib gave way more subsidies than Tun ever did.
