GEORGE TOWN: Fisherman Shaik Alaudin Mohd Kassim, 67, had a huge surprise when he caught a giant horseshoe crab while fishing in Teluk Bahang. The giant female crab weighed about 5kg and is believed to be the biggest of its kind. Horseshoe crabs live in and around shallow oceans and have been said to be able to grow to up to 60cm in length. After all the hype, Alaudin decided to set the horseshoe crab free instead of keeping it or selling it off. “Since it’s so rare to see a horseshoe crab this big, I might as well set it free so it can live the rest of its life,” he said. -The Star.
