MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL, WHO IS THE DIVA OF THEM ALL

A diva is a female opera singer, but now the term also refers to a popular female performer of non-operatic works. The term was originally used to describe a woman of rare, outstanding talent. The term derives from an ancient Italian word meaning "goddess", which, in turn derives from the feminine form of a Latin word divus, meaning "divine one."

TIME magazine observed in its October 21, 2002, issue: "By definition, a diva was originally used for great female opera singers, almost always sopranos." Often today "diva" is used to describe any extremely independent and talented woman; however, the term still applies to the classical arts.

There are many women who are or have been considered divas. They include: Barbara Streisand, Kathleen Battle, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Patti LaBelle, Madonna, Diana Ross, and Dame Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.

Some divas have been given titles. Examples include Tina Turner, who is the Queen of Rock; Aretha Franklin, dubbed the Queen of Soul; Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco; Mary J. Blige, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul; Gloria Estefan, the Queen of Latin Pop; Madonna, the Queen of Pop; Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera, the Princesses of Pop; Whoopi Goldberg, the Queen of Comedy; and Regine Velasquez, Asia's Songbird, also known as the Queen of Pop.

Sometimes males can be given the title of "Diva" (or as some prefer, "Divo"). Elton John, Tom Jones, Andrea Bocelli, and Michael Jackson have been "crowned" with this title.

And who have you considered the DIVA of Malaysia (based on 372 votes) ? It looks like the Malaysian darling Siti tops the list followed by Ziana Zain (honestly Misya is quite surprise with this...Jie would be jubilant with Ziana Zain placed the 2nd) with a narrow edge agains Anita Sarawak. Sheila Majid fell fourth in the chart of Malaysian Diva.
