Breast cancer is now the No.1 cancer killer among Malaysian women. For every 10 women diagnosed with cancer, three would have breast cancer.
Yet, only 18% of women in Malaysia have some form of insurance protection. Being the most common malignancy in women now (it is three times more common than all gynecological malignancies put together), the prevalence of breast cancer has risen alarmingly.
In 1960, the likelihood of a women getting breast cancer over her lifetime was one in 20 women. Today, this probability has increased to one in seven (assuming that all women live up to age 85).
However, statistics disagree: 85% of women who抳e gotten breast cancer have no known family history of the disease. There is much to be done to increase awareness of breast cancer, and educating consumers on the proactive steps they can take which they are still healthy. Only 19% of women in Malaysia have some form of insurance protection, a lot more needs to be done to address this gap.
Statistics shows all cancer claims that paid out to women, 37% of claims were made for breast cancer, followed by 11% for cervical cancer. This means there is a need for a solution which can protect women against female related illnesses, hence to ensure that women are financially protected, if the worst were to happen.
Besides, did you all know, a significant association between alcohol intake and breast cancer has been found, with an increased risk of 7% for each alcoholic drink consumed on a daily basis. (taken from |
