RM1.15bil US rocket artillery system picked
SINGAPORE has chosen a battle-tested, US-made rocket artillery system for its army. The US$330mil (RM1.15bil) deal would be the army抯 first rocket artillery system.
The order for the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (Himars) includes nine trucks, each fitted with a pod of six rocket tubes. At the press of a button, the trucks can launch rockets to pound enemy positions some 60km away.
What makes the system lethal is the 644 armour-piercing bomblets |

itulah yg aku terperasan setiap kali ada military equip yg dorang purchase, mesti ada semangat 'whoa, now we can beat them all'.

Aku tak heran sgt...pasal Himars bg singapoh ni tactical weapon, tapi Astros bagi kita ni dah jadik strategic weapon.. |

its good to have both countries' weapons upgraded because our likeliest enemy will be from a 3rd country.
malaysians and singaporeans are brothers. we know we will not fight against eachother due to many many reasons. think about our roots, the same kind of food we eat and the same kind of language we speak.
we shouldnt be distracted from the fact that the country who had launched confrontasi against us is still our number 1 threat today. upgrading of weapons to both our countries shall make that country think twice before harbouring any thoughts of a Confrontasi II.
singaporeans knew well that if malaysia will be occupied by a 3rd country, singapore's day will be numbered too.
i will be happy too should malaysia gets hold of better weapons than sg. |

Sistem yg dibeli..........
Singapore Requests HIMARS Rocket Artillery
On Sept 12/07, the US DSCA announced [PDF format] Singapore's formal request for M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) rocket launchers as well as associated equipment and services. The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $330 million.
HIMARS is designed to be a more transportable counterpart to the tracked M270 MLRS system that can roll off a C-130 to deliver long-range artillery support. The HIMARS systems will complement Singapore's own air-transportable Pegasus semi-mobile 155mm howitzers, providing longer range precision strike just as they complement the USMC's M777A2 howitzers.
The principal contractors will be Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control at Dallas, Texas and BAE subsidiary Stewart & Stevenson at Sealy, Texas. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale, and implementation will require the assignment of a U.S. Government Quality Assurance Team of up to 5 contractor representatives to Singapore for 2 weeks to assist in the delivery and deployment of the HIMARS and sequential deliveries. A 3-man Technical Assistance Fielding Team will also be required for training missions for up to 2years. A U.S. Government representative will also remain in country for a minimum of 2 years in order to assist in the security assistance aspects of the proposed sale. The exact composition of the request is |
