Dead Sea scrolls

The Dead Sea Scrolls consist of roughly 900 documents, including texts from the Hebrew Bible, discovered between 1947 and 1956 in eleven caves in and around the Wadi Qumran near the ruins of the ancient settlement of Khirbet Qumran, on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.

The texts are of great religious and historical significance, as they include some of the only known surviving copies of Biblical documents made before 100 AD, and preserve evidence of considerable diversity of belief and practice within late Second Temple Judaism. They are written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, mostly on parchment, but with some written on papyrus.  These manuscripts generally date between 150 BC to 70 AD.

Publication of the scrolls has taken many decades, and the delay has been a source of academic controversy. As of 2007 two volumes remain to be completed, with the whole series, Discoveries in the Judean Desert, running to thirty nine volumes in total. Many of the scrolls are now housed in the Shrine of the Book in Jerusalem.

According to The Oxford Companion to Archeology, "The biblical manuscripts from Qumran, which include at least fragments from every book of the Old Testament, except perhaps for the Book of Esther, provide a far older cross section of scriptural tradition than that available to scholars before.

While some of the Qumran biblical manuscripts are nearly identical to the Masoretic, or traditional, Hebrew text of the Old Testament, some manuscripts of the books of Exodus and Samuel found in Cave Four exhibit dramatic differences in both language and content.

In their astonishing range of textual variants, the Qumran biblical discoveries have prompted scholars to reconsider the once-accepted theories of the development of the modern biblical text from only three manuscript families: of the Masoretic text, of the Hebrew original of the Septuagint, and of the Samaritan Pentateuch. It is now becoming increasingly clear that the Old Testament scripture was extremely fluid until its canonization around A.D. 100."

The caves in which the scrolls were found

Remains of living quarters at Qumran.

Discovery

The settlement of Qumran is 1km inland from the northwest shore of the Dead Sea. The scrolls were found in eleven caves nearby, between 125m (Cave 4) and 1km (Cave 1) away. None were found within the settlement, unless it originally encompassed the caves.

It is generally agreed that early in 1947, a  goatherd (or perhaps shepherd) by the name of Mazra made the first known discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

terjumpa artikel mengenai ni. Me petik skit:
2) seorang messiah duniawi.
Dalam buku ‘Penemuan Skrol Laut Mati’ (The Dead Sea Scrolls Uncovered) oleh Robert Eisenman dan Michael Wise, kita membaca bahawa skrol yang awal menyebut tentang dua ‘messiah’, tetapi kemudiannya, orang Yahudi mula menggabungkan kedua-duanya menjadi satu.

Dikatakan messiah bersifat keagamaan merujuk kpd Nabi Isa as manakala yg ke arah duniawi adalah Nabi Muhammad saw. Kenapa Baginda lebih ke arah duniawi? Sebab sifat2 kepimpinan Baginda.

aku baco, dia kata skrolls tu umoq dia beratuih tahun seblom nabi isa lahir...skrolls tu memang samo ayat dia dongan kitab bible ibrani zaman sekarang...jaddi maksudnya, kitab tu memang dah terpesong seblom nabi isa lahir ka ataupun belom terpesong sehingga skrg?
orang yahudi selalu jadikan skrol2 tu bukti yang kitab depa tak penah terubah sprt hok orang isle cakap.depa habaq, sejak seblom Tahun Masihi lagi, memang lagu tuh la skrip asal kitab bible ibrani mcm taurat zabur (old testemen) suma tu tertulih...buktinya, ayat2 dlm skrol sama mcm ayat2 dlm kitab bible ibrani.kalu dah terubah, musti ayat dlm skrol tu belainan drpd ayat yg tedapat dlm bible ibrani zmn la ni?

jadi, tang mananya orang yahudi padam nama nabi muhammad?adakah nabi muhammad memang tak wujud nama dlm kitab2 tedahulu?kalo wujud, awat tak tertulihpun dlm skrol2 yg beribu tahun wujud seblom muhammad lahir?poning den

Yg me faham berdasarkan surah Al Baqarah:79

(QS. Al-Baqarah : 79)

Siapa Al-Kitab? Nasrani n yahudi kan? So, tentu saja sejak zaman Nabi Musa sudah diubah. Dead Sea Scroll sama sekali tidak menjamin bhw ia adalah asli tanpa pernah diubah. Umat zaman Nabi Musa as dan zaman nabi Isa as tidak spt umat Nabi Muhammad saw. Unlike kitab2 yg terdahulu.

Btw, mengenai kenabian yg diramalkan, apa yg me tahu memang x dinyatakan secara direct. So, i guess don't pening2.
Wallahualam

ps: awatlah buat lagu ni plak cari ni? Nape nak buat pop up utk reply? :geram:
