Chinese Clone Cars
The real Honda CR-V and the Laibo S-RV.

Chery QQ vs General Motor's Chevy Spark

W203 Mercedes C-class and Geely C300

Notice that not only are they similar in their looks, but also in their model names!

The Shuanghuan Noble and Daimler's Smart ForTwo

UFO RV and Toyota RAV4

Toyota's Land Cruiser Prado and Dadi Shuttle

Shuanghuan CEO and BMW X5 (E53)

Scion xB (Toyota bB) and Greatwall Coolbear (what a name...)

BYD F8 and Mercedes CLK Cabrio

And today, BYD released another new model. It's called the Toyota Previa / Estima BYD M6.

Also, Chery will be launching two new premium / luxury brands; Riich and Rely.

If you think that the Riich logo looks suspiciously familiar, take look at Bentley "Flying B" badge below.

The first premium car to wear the Riich badge is the Riich G6.

Itmaybe funny to laugh at Chinese clone cars. But there are also a coupleof small fact in the history of today's established car brands thatmany are not aware of. Check out the below.
You really think Volkswagen and Ferdinand Porsche are the creator of the the "People's car?"

Thecar on the left is the VW Beetle that we all know. The car on the rightis the Tatra T-97. In case you didn't know, Tatra is one of theearliest car companies in the world, with a history dating back to 1850in the Czech Republic. Austrian genius Hans Ledwinka was Tatra's starengineer. In the 1940s, Dr Fritz Todt, the German general inspector ofthe Autobahn network, once called the Tatra T87 was the ultimateAutobahn car. Not even Mercedes had that kind of recognition.

Tatra'scould have easily been Czech's equivalent of Porsche or VW, but itshistory was abruptly cut short in World War II by the Nazi invasion. Inthe post-war years, Tatra suffered a slow death into oblivion when thecompany fell under Communist control.

Aboveis the KdF-Wagen, an early prototype for the VW Beetle. Below is theTatra T-97, which is powered by a flat-four rear mounted engine, aconfiguration that Ferdinand Porsche would use in the Beetle.

Tocut the long automotive history short, Adolf Hitler once calledFerdinand Porsche to a meeting in Berlin. He laid down vision of anaffordable people's car. Ferdinand Porsche was under huge cost and timepressure to deliver and all his early prototypes failed to meet thenecessary cost, performance and space requirements. Meanwhile, Tatra'sstar engineer Hans Ledwinka was working on a few small streamlined bodyrear engine cars. In the book "Car Wars," Ferdinand Porsche admittedthat he had occasionally "looked over" the shoulders of Hans Ledwinkain designing the Beetle. Hitler would later noticed that FerdinandPorsche's prototypes were too similar to Tatra T97, and ordered the T97to be removed from the 1939 Berlin AutoSalon.

Tatra wouldeventually sue Porsche for damages, and Ferdinand was willing to settlethe matter. However Hitler intervened and told Ferdinand he would"settle the matter." Czechoslovakia was later invaded by the GermanNazis and production of the Tatra T97 halted. After the war had ended,Volkswagen paid Volkswagen paid Tatra 3,000,000 Deutsche Mark incompensation in 1961.

Also, everybody knows Toyota is thelargest and richest car company in the world. Some even call ToyotaMotor Co. the Bank of Toyota. But take a look at Toyota's first car,the Model AA.

Toyota'sofficial history would say that the Model AA is "based on a Chryslermodel." But there was never any licensing agreement between ToyodaAutomatic Loom Works (before Toyota Motor Co. was created) andChrysler. The Model AA was in fact a loose copy of the 1934 ChryslerAirflow. But of course, the resemblance is not that obvious andKiichiro Toyoda took greater effort to differentiate the two cars.

Historyis written in the eyes of the victor. Just as the name Edison is oftenwrongly credited for the progress of electricity, when in fact JamesSwan was the inventor (Edison merely improved the filament material)and Nikola Tesla invented AC current while Edison fought against ACpower to promote his less efficient DC power. Do you really thinkMarconi invented radio? Again, it was Nikola Tesla.
In otherwords, it's just history repeating itself. But maybe the scale ofChina's automotive industry and state of today's global competitionhave magnified these greatly.

CHINA – ITALY

Chinese carmaker found guilty of copying Italy’s Panda car
Many Western and Japanese companies accuse Chinese car companies of plagiarism. For some experts China still lacks the necessary experience to make original cars.

Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Western car companies are up in arms against Chinese companies for copyright infringements. In the latest case China’s auto giant Great Wall Motor has been banned from selling its ‘Peri’ model in Italy because it is a copy of Fiat’s Panda. On Monday the US-based Visionary Vehicles filed a lawsuit charging Chery Automobile with "corrupt practices",

alleging the Anhui-based company stole proprietary information whilst the two companies were in partnership to export cars to the United States.    (malaya kan tengah dok borak perkongsian perniagaan bijak dengan china, jaga jagalah protong pulak kena klon sat lagi )

ni yang pasal X5 kena tiru .. dan disaman di mahkamah Jerman

Such charges against Chinese companies are not new. Last year, a regional court in Munich, Germany, ruled that Shijiazhuang Shuanghuan Automobile could no longer sell its CEO sports utility vehicle in Germany because it resembled BMW's X5.

Also last year Mercedes-Benz said Shijiazhuang Shuanghuan’s Noble minicar was like its Smart for Two car, and got an injunction against the car from participation in the Bologna Motor Show in Italy.

Toyota failed however to stop Shuanghuan from selling its Ufo model, which it claims to be very similar to its Rav4 but at a price tag that is 40 per cent cheaper.

In 2004 US-based General Motors said that the QQ by Chery Automobile was a clone of its Chevrolet Spark.

But for John Bonnell, director of marketing intelligence for Asia-Pacific at J.D. Power, “most Chinese brands still have a quality gap to close with global manufacturers.”

In his view “the measures for quality spelled out for Chinese carmakers recently do indicate those companies are still learning the complicated process of manufacturing [their] vehicles.”

Still Chinese carmakers want to flood the world market and take advantage of their lower production costs thanks to cheap labour and energy and state subsidies. (PB)

top clone car by china

Now that the Beijing Olympics are over and the need to reduce the capital’s smog is gone, Chinese car makers can get back to doing what they do best: copying successful western car designs while cranking out the clones super cheap.

We admire China’s style; why fuss over safety, performance or emissions when all consumers really want is a look? MonsterAuto.ca gives us their six favorite Chinese car clones, along with useful comparo shots so you don't find yourself leaving the Benz dealer in a BYD F8. MonsterAuto
