ASEAN Snapshot Covid19 24/03/2022

Total Cases crossed 27.72 million at 7:00 pm with more than 196,000 New Cases reported since our last update as the Omicron variant continues to sweep across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam reported 127,883 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 130,735. Active Cases in the ASEAN member state have dipped to 3.77 million from 3.82 million previously. The health authorities reported 61 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, down from 65, resulting in Total Deaths in Vietnam climbing to 42,075.
Thailand hit 27,024 New Cases with 82 New Deaths. Of the New Cases, 26,740 were confirmed at hospitals and 184 via mass testing. The New Deaths were between the ages of 1 month and 95 years, and included 1 Briton and 5 Myanmar nationals. On Wednesday, 23,721 Recoveries were discharged from hospitals.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 22,491 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 21,483 previously. Total Cases logged in the country now stand at more than 4.05 million with 3.77 million Total Recoveries to date. Malaysia recorded 65 New Deaths, down from 72 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 34,600.
Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) logged 8,940 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 13,166. 6 New Deaths were reported for the second consecutive day, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 1,220. Active Cases in the island state have risen to 34,000+ from 33,000+.
Indonesia reported 5,808 New Cases of COVID-19 today, down from 6,376 yesterday. The ASEAN member state has now logged over 5.67 million Total Recoveries while Active Cases in the Republic have dipped to 155,500+ from 168,500+. Total Deaths stand at 154,343 in the populous archipelago with 122 New Deaths, down from 159 yesterday.
Lao reported 2,819 New Cases, up from 2,625 yesterday, taking Total Cases logged since the beginning of the pandemic to 161,500+. Lao reported no New Deaths, resulting in Total Deaths remaining at 652. Active Cases have climbed to 4,000+ from 3,000+ while Total Recoveries now stand at 157,000+.
Brunei reported 775 New Cases, down from 1,006 yesterday, taking Total Cases in the country to 129,000+ with 9,500+ Active Cases, down from 11,000+ yesterday. Total Deaths in Brunei remain at 90 with no New Deaths reported.
The Philippines recorded 407 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, up from 290 previously. Active Cases have dipped to 44,500+ while 282 New Deaths were reported, up from 5. Total Recoveries now stand at more than 3.57 million while Total Deaths have climbed to 58,563.
Myanmar reported 267 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 360 previously. Active Cases remain below the 24,500-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 566,000+. Health officials in the junta-run state reported 1 New Death, down from 2, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 19,428.
Health officials in Cambodia have reported 63 New Cases of COVID-19, down marginally from 64 yesterday, pushing Total Cases logged in the kingdom to 135,000+. Active Cases remain around the 1,000-mark. Total Deaths in the country stand at 3,054 with 2 New Deaths reported.
Total Deaths across Southeast Asia now stand at more than 338,500 with 621 New Deaths recorded today. On a positive note, over 22.85 million Total Recoveries have been reported across all 10 ASEAN member states to date.
