<<us mana ada kawan. depa hanya ada interest - kepentingan>>
But isn't this true for all nations, including Malaysia?
We had no diplomatic relations with Indonesia, considered them our enemy, and were at war with them from 1963-1966. Now we have full diplomatic relations with them, co-founded ASEAN with them, and frequently have military exercises with them (for e.g. Malindo Joint Military exercise).
We gave diplomatic recognition to China in 1974, at a time when we were fighting Communists in Malaysia, who received weapons and funding from China. We did it because of kepentingan, namely as part of an agreement that the Chinese Communist Party would stop funding the Communists in Malaysia.
We frequently condemn human rights violations by Israel while conveniently ignoring human rights violations in Darfur. Again, this is because of "kepentingan" namely Petronas's desire to gain access to Sudan's oil reserves.
All nations are "selfish" because their foreign policy is an extension of their domestic policy. In international politics, there are no permanent friends/enemies but permanent interests. History teaches us that nations will only talk about "justice" and "principle" when they no longer have the means to enforce their own interests. If Malaysia had the same military power as the US, I suspect our leaders will be carrying out "regime-change" in this region as well. The only reason we don't is because we lack the means...
