Production Notes:
The LeClerc Main Battle Tank has replaced the AMX-30 B2 series of main battle tank for frontline service in the French army. It represents the most modern tank available to French armed forces and features standard NBC crew protection and night vision equipment.
The armor features an advanced modular design, substantially adding more protection to the crew. The three-man crew is assisted by an automatic loader (in much the same way that many Russia-built tanks are), negating the need for a fourth crewman in the turret.
Projectile ammunition is of the standard variety including HEAT and illuminating rounds. Smoke grenades, decoy grenades and a .30 caliber and .50 caliber machine gun round out the armament loadout. Interestingly, the .50 caliber weapon is mounted coaxially in the turret whereas other main battle tanks reserve this weapon for the commander's cupola for air defense. Instead, the .30 caliber machine gun serves this purpose.
Long range fuel tanks are optional and can increase the overall effective road range of the tank.
The United Arab Emirates has taken shipment of the LeClerc, albeit with special modifications for operating in the harsh desert environment.
The chassis is being considered for a variety of variants for the French Army and for export consideration. Current LeClerc MBTs are undergoing a modernization upgrade process for the French Army.

The secondary layer is a large alunimum tank (well, not large) roughly about an inch and a quarter thick that contains electrolytic fluid (which changes its viscosity [spelling?] when hit with an electric shock).
When a round is detected coming towards the vehicle, an electric firing system fires an electrical pulse towards the electrodes protruding into the fluid across each individual tank (there are a series of these tanks, each covering different portiosn).
To prevent spillage, each tank is cordoned off with metal strips to prevent one hit from draining an entire tank. This entire system is the Liquid-Based Passive Defense System (LBPDS) or Electrolytic Fluid Defense System (EFDS).
The tanks are present on the front glacis, turret sides, turret front, turret rear, turret top, vehicle top, and vehicle sides.

Produced in conjunction with China's NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation). The main battle tank features an automatic loader, negating the need for another crewman in the turret. NBC system and explosive reactive armor provide battlefield survivability. It should be noted that the Al Khalid is the same weapon system that China produces as the Type 85-II. The Pakistani system was once known as the MBT 2000.
The fire control system is completely computerized and features stabilized day and night sighting which is available to the gunner and commander. Amphibious travel is possible but limited to some extent, requiring the addition of a snorkel system
