Prostate screening is vital in the early detection of prostate diseases.
Up to 90% of men will have BPH by the time they reach 80 years of age.
PROSTATE screening can detect problems when no symptoms are present and can help catch the disease at an early stage when treatment is thought to be more effective and potentially has fewer side-effects.
Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Latiff bin Ahmad, the Deputy Health Minister, said this when launching the Prostate Awareness Campaign 2007 recently.
Emphasising the importance of prostate screening for Malaysian men, Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff hopes that many men will take advantage of the free prostate screening that will be held in six district hospitals in Selangor and one in Seremban during the month long campaign.
The campaign, the third to be organised since 2004, is held to increase awareness, educate and provide free screening for prostate diseases.
According to Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff, prostate diseases, especially cancer, is one of the leading health risks in men, but when detected at an early stage, it is one of the most treatable.
