If the French did gave the Brits the Exocet's codes, then why they lose two vessels and hundreds of men to Exocets attacks?

This is after they lost the two ships. What i read the France gave the pihak british the abiliti to deactivate the warhead.

How France helped us win Falklands war, by John NottBy George Jones, Political Editor
Last Updated: 11:03PM GMT 12/03/2002

FRANCE was Britain's greatest ally during the Falklands war, providing secret information to enable MI6 agents to sabotage Exocet missiles which were desperately sought by Argentina, according to Sir John Nott, who was Defence Secretary during the conflict.

In his memoirs he reveals that while President Reagan was pressurising Lady Thatcher to accept a negotiated settlement France helped Britain to win the conflict.

Although Lady Thatcher clashed with President Mitterrand over the future direction of Europe, he immediately came to her aid after Argentine forces invaded the Falklands in April 1982.

"In so many ways Mitterrand and the French were our greatest allies," Sir John says. As soon as the conflict began, France made available to Britain Super-Etendard and Mirage aircraft - which it had supplied to Argentina - so Harrier pilots could train against them.

The French gave Britain information on the Exocet - which sank the Sheffield and Atlantic Conveyor - showing how to tamper with it.

"A remarkable worldwide operation then ensued to prevent further Exocets being bought by Argentina," Sir John says.

"I authorised our agents to pose as bona fide purchasers of equipment on the international market, ensuring that we outbid the Argentinians, and other agents identified Exocet missiles in markets and rendered them inoperable."

He contrasts the French attitude with America's attempts to find a face-saving deal for President Galtieri, the Argentine dictator."For all Margaret Thatcher's friendship with Ronald Reagan, he remained a West Coast American looking south to Latin America and west to the Pacific. Sometimes I wondered if he even knew or cared where Europe was."

Caspar Weinberger, the US defence secretary, supported Britain but the State Department was "dominated by Latinos".

"There was incredible pressure from the White House and the State Department to negotiate. It was hugely damaging," Sir John told The Telegraph. "They couldn't understand that to us any negotiated settlement would have seemed like a defeat."

Asked if he found it irritating that the Americans expected Britain's total support in the war against terrorism, Sir John said: "I am against the Americans smashing things up with bombing raids, then letting us be the auxiliary policemen to pick up the pieces."

Sir John says he held the Foreign Office "in deep contempt" for the caution it displayed when Lady Thatcher proposed sending the Task Force to the Falklands.

Thatcher used 'nuclear blackmail' to get missile codes

MARGARET Thatcher forced Francois Mitterrand to give her the codes to disable Argentina's French-made missiles during the Falklands war by threatening to launch a nuclear warhead against Buenos Aires, according to a book.

Rendez-vous: the psychoanalysis of Francois Mitterrand , by Ali Magoudi, who met the late French president up to twice a week in secrecy at his Paris practice from 1982 to 1984, also reveals that Mr Mitterrand believed he would get his "revenge" by building a tunnel under the Channel that would forever destroy Britain's island status. The book, to be published on Friday, is one of several on France's first Socialist president to mark the 10th anniversary of his death on January 8, 1996.

Despite a now tarnished reputation, he remains a source of fascination for the French in general and the left in particular. Rendez-vous provides revealing insights into the man's mysterious character, complicated past, paranoia and power complex, but nothing as titillating as his remarks on the former British prime minister. "Excuse me. I had a difference to settle with the Iron Lady. That Thatcher, what an impossible woman!" the president said as he arrived, more than 45 minutes late, on May 7, 1982.

"With her four nuclear submarines in the south Atlantic, she's threatening to unleash an atomic weapon against Argentina if I don't provide her with the secret codes that will make the missiles we sold the Argentinians deaf and blind." He reminded Mr Magoudi that on May 4 an Exocet missile had struck HMS Sheffield. "To make matters worse, it was fired from a Super-Etendard jet," he said. "All the materiel was French!"

In words the psychoanalyst has sworn to the publisher, Meren Sell, are genuine, the president continued: "She's livid. She blames me personally for this new Trafalgar

Margaret Thatcher threatened to unleash an atomic weapon against Argentina?

Hardly. the real story was the Brits are more than eager to give the Falklands to the Argentinians. the only reason they can't do that is because the Falklanders has voted not to join Argentina.

Why the Brits fought with Argentinians if its true that they are more than eager to give the Falklands? well, its a matter of national pride and honor.

moreover, this news is based on hearsay only and comes from a third person. totally cannot be confirmed.

This is actually a tussle between two former imperial powers; England and France. But seriously, UK launching a nuclear strike on Argentina, it was more passion than reality.

Can I ask whether there is such a code to incapacitate the Exocet?

Yes. The destruk signel is call DALcode. Mikroprocessor inside kruise misel can be instruckted to disarm the warhead so misel become a dud. It is a safety build in measure. Dalcode also use to disarm nuke in case of accident lunch.

sesetengah peluru berpandu tu memang ada keupayaan self destruct. misalnya SAM dan MANPADS. tapi tang ASM ni wa rasa tak kot. apa yang boleh operator buat adalah alihkan laluan peluru berpandu tuh.

sebenarnya British tak perlu pon code tuh (itupon kalo code tuh wujud). sebabnya masa perang Falklands tuh Argentina cuma ada 5 Exocet je. in fact The Argentinians had no previous experience with antiship missiles, and the Exocet was a complicated and cranky weapon. The Argentinians experienced a lot of trouble fitting the Exocet launch system and rails to the Super Etendards. In November 1981, Dassault Aviation, owned by the French government and builder of the Super Etendard, sent a team of nine of its own technicians (and some additional French Aerospatiale specialists) to work with the Argentine navy to supervise the introduction of the Etendards and Exocets. Although France complied with the NATO/ Common Market weapons embargo, the French technical team remained in Argentina and apparently continued to work on the aircraft and Exocets, successfully repairing the malfunctioning launch systems. Without the technical help and collusion from the government of France桞ritain抯 NATO 揳lly敆it is improbable that Argentina would have been able to employ its most devastating weapon.

On 4th May, 2 Argentinian's Super Etendard fired 2 Exocets . Once the missiles were fired, one Exocet went astray, but the other found its target, crippled the  Sheffield, and caused heavy casualties.

on the 25th May, 2 Super Etendards launched two Exocet missiles at the HMS  Invincible. As before, one Exocet went astray after possibly being hit by British antiaircraft fire. Initially the second Exocet抯 radar locked onto the Invincible; however, large amounts of chaff caused it to break lock. The Exocet then searched, acquired, and locked onto the cargo ship  Atlantic Conveyor that had no chaff protection; consequently, it was hit, crippled, and later sank.

on 30th May 1982, the Argentinians made their last Exocet attack on the carrier HMS Invincible,  following up with an attack by a flight of Skyhawks.  Apparently, the Exocet was shot down by Royal Navy antiaircraft fire.

Entah ler. Yang wa baca majoriti of kruise atau balistic misel semua ader deactivation code...disarm warhead/fuse atau self-destruk kalo acident lunch.

Hope not true for Exocet.
