Austrian club SK Austria K鋜nten have announced that their 34-year-old midfielder Adam Ledwoń has been discovered hanged in his home on Thursday.
Initial reports suggest that he has tragically commited suicide, leaving behind a wife and three children.
Although not a part of Leo Beenhakker's Euro 2008 squad, Ledwoń won 18 caps for his nation and scored once.
A spokeswoman for the Austrian club, Iliane Zayic, stated: "He was discovered by [teammate] Patrick Wolf, who had passed by to see him before they were due to go out.
"The club has lost one of its best players, and an irreplacable human being."
Born in the Polish town of Olesno, Upper Silesia on January 15, 1974, Ledwoń had a colourful career. He played for German outfits Bayer Leverkusen and Fortuna K鰈n between 1997 and 2000, before carving out a career in Austria with Austria Vienna, SK Admira Wien, Sturm Graz and finally Austria K鋜nten.
He lived in Klagenfurt at the time of his death. The news comes hours before Poland face co-hosts Austria in Vienna in the Euro 2008 match. |
