here's my 2 cents worth, Correct me if I'm wrong...a bit rusty...hehe.

Have to think of the risk of chicken pox to mother and baby. Chicken pox bila kena pada orang dewasa lebih teruk. Kadang2 sampai kena pneumonia and this is a serious condition. If the expecting mom is immune then it's alright. If not may want to consider treatment options such as Varicella Zoster Immunoglobulin (VZIG) or Acyclovir bearing in mind that there is not enough evidence about the effect of acyclovir on the fetus therefore risk and benefit should be discussed.

Effect on fetus depends on the stage of her pregnancy. First trimester: Kalau mom is not immune there is a risk of congenital varicella syndrome which result in  skin lesions in dermatomal distribution, neurologic defects, eye diseases, and skeletal anomalies. Although this syndrome is rare, the risk is there.

If the mom shows the first symptoms/signs of chicken pox  2 days before and within 5 days after delivery there is a risk of the baby getting neonatal vericella infection which can be life threatening. Jadi usually during this period VZIG is given.

I wonder what the latest guideline in Malaysia states. Anyone? Kalau mom is non-immune I usually refer je coz I takde VZIG kat klinik. Better be safe than sorry.

...as for acyclovir...there is a very small risk of malformation in baby in 1st trimester...and becos she is in her first trimester...there is a less than 1% risk of what we call fetal varicella syndrome...damage can occur to the eyes...legs...arms...brain...bladder or bowel in 1-2 of every 100 babies (1-2%)....your wife will be referred to a fetal medicine specialist for ultrasound scans and discussion about possible tests and their risks...so...go bring her to see a obgyn...

My sister in-law got chicken pox masa first trimester.  Her son (now dah 8 years old).  One arm is shorter than the other.  Fingers missing.  Congenital heart defect - this one on waiting list at IJN.

berapa  umur anak?

ni pakai hearing aids  dan sebelum ni  dah buat heraing test ?

sila pastikan bila nak planning to have a baby ni  u all baca bebanyak buku  bukan  kursus kahwin jer penting sayang sayang semua ...tapi pengisian perkahiwnan itu  dan  pembinaan keluarga tu

ya ALLAH  

bila u all plan nak  have a baby

kena pastikan

a) imunisasi Rubella or whatever  mmg kena ambil
b) folic acid
c) buat kaunseling dgn memana  doktor dulu ( pakar obstettician )
d) ubatan apa korang ambil dan tahu nama ubat dan bincang dgn doktor

lum pernah kena lg.....hemmm insyallah aku akan bawa gi scan dlm hujung minggu ni....lepas raya nnt aku bg keputusan nya....x pi aku dah bawa ke doktor klinik biasa...dan mengatakan tiada kesan ke atas fectus tuhh...jika isteri aku sudah mengambil banyak ubat utk chicken pox tuhh....baru ler ada kesan....x pi isteri aku baru jer ambil sebiji.....ubat uth pun x bahaya sangat....peraturan makan pun cuma 3 x sehari.....

mungkin akan ade comlications kat baby spt some abnormalities sebab virus boleh pass thru placente and infect baby, plus, antiviral drugs ade byk side effects juga.... tnya doc utk dptkan kepastian

kalau sekiranya tidak terlalu peribadi , nak juga saya tahu  ( fokus baby tu)

tapi sekiranya ada komplikasi well u could seek more info. counseling etc

dan ingat hal ini sekiranya anak itu lahir please check pendebngaran dan pertumbuhan serta perkembangan dia ...

aku sudah check dan doc mengatakan jarang sekali berlaku kecacatan dan sebagai seorg muslim kita berdoa jerrr agar sehat dan cukup sifat anak tuhh...tawakal jer lerrr

aku masa ngandung 32 minggu kene cikenpox nie.. mmg takut sgt masa tu.. tapi alhamdulilah doktor kata aku dah melepasi tahap yg bahaya... tapi aku takut gak kot2 efek kat baby masa tu.. erm.. alhamdulilaah syukur sgt baby aku selamat dilahirkan dan sihat walafiat.... skang pun dah masok 8 bln my baby gurl... huh
