[Borneo] ASEAN Snapshot 23/03/2022

Total Cases crossed 27.51 million at 7:00 pm with more than 201,000 New Cases reported since our last update as the Omicron variant continues to sweep across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam reported 130,735 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 131,713. Active Cases in the ASEAN member state have climbed to 3.82 million from 3.76 million previously. The health authorities reported 65 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, down from 69, resulting in Total Deaths in Vietnam climbing to 42,014.

Thailand logged 80 New Deaths from COVID-19 and 25,164 New Cases in the past 24 hours. Of the New Cases, 24,934 were confirmed at hospitals and 139 via mass testing. The New Deaths were between the ages of 2 months and 95 years and included 1 Vietnamese national. The 24-hour period also saw 24,770 Recoveries discharged from hospitals.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 21,483 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 17,828 previously. Total Cases logged in the country now stand at more than 4.03 million with 3.74 million Total Recoveries to date. Malaysia recorded 72 New Deaths, up from 63 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 34,535.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) logged 13,166 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 7,538. 6 New Deaths were reported, down from 10 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 1,214. Active Cases in the island state have climbed to 33,000+ from 30,000+.

Indonesia reported 6,376 New Cases of COVID-19 today, down from 7,464 yesterday. The ASEAN member state has now logged over 5.65 million Total Recoveries while Active Cases in the Republic have dipped to 168,500+ from 181,500+. Total Deaths stand at 154,221 in the populous archipelago with 159 New Deaths, down from 170 yesterday.

Lao reported 2,625 New Cases, up from 2,328 yesterday, taking Total Cases logged since the beginning of the pandemic to 159,000+. Lao reported 1 New Death, down from 2, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 652. Active Cases have climbed to 3,000+ from 2,000+ while Total Recoveries now stand at 153,000+.

Brunei reported 1,006 New Cases, down from 1,191 yesterday, taking Total Cases in the country to 128,000+ with 11,000+ Active Cases, down from 11,500+ yesterday. Total Deaths in Brunei remain at 90 with no New Deaths reported.

Myanmar reported 360 New Cases in the past 24 hours, up from 298 previously. Active Cases have dipped below the 24,500-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 565,500+. Health officials in the junta-run state reported 2 New Deaths, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 19,427.

The Philippines recorded 290 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 415 previously. Active Cases have dipped below the 45,000-mark while 5 New Deaths were reported, down from 13. Total Recoveries now stand at more than 3.57 million while Total Deaths have climbed to 58,281.

Health officials in Cambodia have reported 64 New Cases of COVID-19, down from 73 yesterday, pushing Total Cases logged in the kingdom to 135,000+. Active Cases remain around the 1,000-mark. Total Deaths in the country stand at 3,052 with no New Deaths reported.

Total Deaths across Southeast Asia now stand at almost 338,000 with 390 New Deaths recorded today. On a positive note, over 22.57 million Total Recoveries have been reported across all 10 ASEAN member states to date.
