NEW YORK (WABC) -- Sources say two teenage girls were acting suspiciously at the Victoria's Secret in Herald Square and security found the body of a baby in one of their bags.

The teenager who gave birth to the baby boy is at Bellevue Hospital.

Her 17-year-old friend is at the Midtown South Police Precinct.

Investigators searched the teen mom's Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn home trying to figure out just why she put her baby in a bag.

The 17-year-old didn't say a word and looked visibly upset as paramedics brought her out of the Herald Square store.

Police say she and a 17-year-old friend were inside Victoria's Secret when security saw them acting suspiciously.

They were asked what was inside their bag, and that's when one teen said human remains.

Sources say the girls confessed to detectives they were shoplifting while they tried to figure out what to do with the baby.

She told detectives she was six months pregnant but miscarried Wednesday at her friend's home in Queens.

Sources say the baby was nearly full term.

She allegedly wrapped the baby boy in clothing put him in the bag and has been carrying him ever since.

Crime scene investigators focused their investigation on the lower level of the flagship store specially the employee break room, hoping to find answers to this puzzling case.

Now the medical examiner's office has the task of performing an autopsy to figure out if this baby was born alive and just how he died.

Ford said she didn’t even realize Rodriguez was pregnant. She said Rodriguez lives with her mother and son, who is about 2 years old. “She goes to school. She does what she has to do. She’s no problem,” Ford said. “We grew up together. I’ve known her since she was little. She was probably nervous and didn’t know what to do. She would never hurt anyone.”

The drama unfolded just after 1 p.m. in the middle of one of the city’s busiest shopping districts. The Victoria’s Secret security guard confronted Rodriguez and Estevez, also 17, after he suspected they were stealing. He took them into a back room and called police.
