Mall-goers in China have been on high alert after
two escalator accidents, one involving a 30-year-old mother
who died after the flooring collapsed beneath her, sparked safety concerns across the country. Chinese media recently published a series of GIFs showing the tactics some have employed to avoid touching the now-feared footplate above the moving staircase. Watch below and take note.

Netizens have also published helpful photos showing how to stop the machinery in case of an emergency, as well as proper ways to ride an escalator with a child (i.e.: you should actually ride the escalator with the child).
