Berbatov: All well at United

Dimitar Berbatov has insisted that Manchester United will stay strong as they bid to recover from their mini-slump.

After successive Barclays Premier League defeats to Liverpool and Fulham, United host Aston Villa on Sunday - by which time they may have been replaced at the top of the table by Rafael Benitez's men, who are at Craven Cottage themselves 24 hours earlier.

Anderson has been forced to pull out of World Cup duty with Brazil after picking up a thigh injury and Berbatov is also struggling to be fit after suffering an ankle problem at Fulham which ruled him out of Bulgaria's draw with the Republic of Ireland last weekend.

However, the former Tottenham striker is not getting too downhearted - and insists the atmosphere within the Old Trafford camp is still good.

"We are a strong team and we all support each other," he told MUTV.

"We know how to react after defeats.

"International breaks are sometimes difficult, because you have two games and you come back and can be a little bit tired; then you have a game immediately after that.

"But that's our job - there's no need to complain."

Although they appear to be in turmoil as they try to resist Liverpool's recent rally, United are still well placed to complete an unprecedented quintuple.

The loss of Anderson would be a blow if he fails to recover, considering Ferguson wanted all his squad back before considering his options for the double-header with Villa and then Porto in the Champions League.

But Berbatov still feels there is plenty of reason to look on the bright side.

"Everything is possible," he said.

"If you believe and have faith, and you really want it, it can happen.

"We need to believe in our quality and our ability. I think the gaffer will know the right encouragement to give us to prepare for the games we have. We will stay strong to the end."

Most of the United players have the experience of winning major trophies to fall back on - but not so Berbatov, who was an onlooker last month as his team-mates overcame his old club Tottenham to win the Carling Cup.

It was a taste of glory the 27-year-old is anxious to enjoy himself.

"I told the boys in the dressing room, 'you have already won the Champions League and Premier League'.

"The only one who hasn't is me. I really want to win those trophies so I can say to the other players 'I am one of you'."

Tevez: I'm not leaving United

Old Trafford favourite Carlos Tevez is adamant that he does not want to play for anyone else other than Manchester United.

The Argentina star is on loan at United but that deal is due to expire in the summer.

So far there has been no agreement reached for Tevez to stay on, with United officials believed to be baulking at a £30million transfer fee to gain the player's services outright.

Real Madrid are believed to be monitoring the situation closely, while a host of other top continental clubs would be ready to step in if Tevez indicated he had no future with the Red Devils.

However, the 24-year-old is crossing his fingers that he does not have to leave.

Although he may not have started as many games as he would have liked this season, Tevez is still enjoying life at Old Trafford and feels he has a special relationship with the club's supporters.

"My loan deal ends in June but I cannot think of any team except United," Tevez told Sport magazine.

"The United fans love me and my family is very happy, both in Manchester and in England.

"My thoughts are only about winning titles with United, and if this happens then I hope I will still be here next season.

"I do not want to play with any other team. I always follow my heart, and my heart is telling me it will be impossible for me to leave English football."

There is little doubt Sir Alex Ferguson would like Tevez to stay, although in the present financial climate, the sums being talked about do not make much sense and the South American's advisor Kia Joorabchian may have to be flexible if common ground is to be reached.

An agreement would raise the possibility of Tevez playing with Cristiano Ronaldo for another season.

Ronaldo might not have reached the level that saw him crowned Ballon D'Or winner last year but, according to Tevez, he remains, along with Lionel Messi, one of only two players capable of winning a match on their own.

"Sometimes his performances are almost from a different planet," said Tevez.

"He is a truly special talent and the only other player who I think is on the same level as him today is my Argentinian team-mate Lionel Messi.

"He is at Barcelona now, but I think they could play very well together - they are the only men in football who can win a game on their own.

"They are complete because they are both superb dribblers who also have a very good eye for goal. I would love to have them both with me in the same team."

Facing those three would certainly be a fairly fearsome prospect for any defence, even if Tevez and Messi were part of the Argentina side that suffered an incredible six-goal mauling in Bolivia on Wednesday.

Ferguson would no doubt like the opportunity, with Tevez confirming his relationship with the Scot is a positive one despite the number of times he has been left out of the United side in preference to Dimitar Berbatov this season.

"He is always the boss," revealed Tevez.

"There is never any doubt who is in charge, but he is also a gentleman.

"From the moment I arrived, he has treated me with respect as a person.

"His greatest quality is that, for him, there are no star players - everyone is equal, whether they cost many millions or are a young player who hasn't played many times for the team.

"When I see him work he reminds me of Carlos Bianchi, who was my coach at Boca Juniors in Argentina.

"Both have had a big influence on my career, and both know how to treat people."

With Wayne Rooney suspended, Tevez is expected to start against Aston Villa on Sunday as United look to arrest their mini-slump.

Rio Ferdinand also looks likely to declare himself fit despite being taken off just before the end of England's victory over the Ukraine at Wembley, sparking fears of a recurrence of the groin injury which kept him out of Saturday's encounter with Slovakia.

However, as he left Wembley, Ferdinand signalled to the watching crowd that he would probably be fit for United duty at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ferguson is already without Nemanja Vidic through suspension. In addition, Scholes will also miss out following his red card at Fulham, while Dimitar Berbatov is struggling with an ankle injury and Anderson has a knee probleM

Striker concern for Reds

Dimitar Berbatov has been ruled out for a further two weeks with the ankle injury he sustained against Fulham, leaving United light on options up front for Aston Villa's visit to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Reds are already without Wayne Rooney, who joins Nemanja Vidic and Paul Scholes on the sidelines through suspension, and now Berbatov isn't expected back in training until the tail end of next week.

Sir Alex is waiting for Carlos Tevez and Anderson to return from international duty on Friday afternoon before making a decision on their fitness. Anderson reportedly picked up a knock in training for Brazil, although Tevez is expected to lead the line for United.

"If Tevez is OK, at least I've got one striker!" said the boss. "I'll have to think who I play alongside him."

The Reds boss may opt to pair the Argentinian with Cristiano Ronaldo or Ryan Giggs; otherwise his options extend to 18-year-old Danny Welbeck and 17-year-old Federico Macheda  :pompom: . One, or both, could make the bench.

There was some good news: Rio Ferdinand is expected to be fit for the match, Ji-sung Park is raring to go despite a long journey back from national duty in Korea, and captain Gary Neville may get his first start since January.

"Gary did very well in the Reserves at Newcastle," said the boss. "You could tell he needed a game. But his training has been very good, and he comes into the picture for Sunday."

Sir Alex has some difficult decisions ahead of a crucial Premier League game, but he remains calm. "With the extra day's rest after the internationals, I'm confident we can get a fit team together.

Villa match stats favour United

There are plenty of reasons to be positive ahead of Sunday's clash with Aston Villa, not least because the visitors haven't won at Old Trafford since 1983.

In fact, the Villans have taken only four points from a possible 48 in Premier League meetings at OT.

What抯 more, the Reds have had little trouble finding the back of the net in recent home games against Villa: Sir Alex抯 men have scored three or more times in four of the last six. Last season United won 4-0.

But what about the 搃nternational break

Macheda in Man Utd team to play against Villa ???

Well, with the dearth of striker now due to suspension (Rooney), injury (Berbatov) and plain tiredness due to international duty (Tevez, Wellbeck), Man Utd has a problem upfront. And the past experience with Ronaldo as striker did not come up too well,

And so, will Sir Alex take the chance and give young 17-year old Frederico "Kiko" Macheda the chance to play in Sunday's match against Aston Villa??? After all, he has been getting goals like anything, 3 in the last reserves match, and is a pure forward with natural striker instincts and cold-bloodedness to boot, seeing his play several times.

SO, it is with GREAT expectations THAT this MAY truly materializem with even news articles fast publishing this possibility, and I QUOTE herewith: -
Macheda in Reds frame

St.... Ma.......

April 03, 2009
UNITED could have a teenage back-up to lone senior forward Carlos Tevez against Aston Villa on Sunday.

And the biggest beneficiary to the Reds' suspension and injury-blighted attack could be 17-year-old Italian prodigy Federico Macheda.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson is having to plan the champions' rehab after successive defeats against Liverpool and Fulham without banned Wayne Rooney.

He'll serve a one-game suspension for his red card at Fulham but his absence is compounded by the probable loss of Dimitar Berbatov who is a major doubt after suffering an ankle injury at Craven Cottage.

The Bulgarian missed his country's international schedule and is unlikely to be ready to play Villa at Old Trafford.

Though Fergie can deploy either Cristiano Ronaldo or Ryan Giggs as a makeshift partner for Tevez, he will need some firepower on the bench.

Danny Welbeck has been on England Under-21 duty this week and featured as a substitute on Tuesday when Stuart Pearce's youngsters went down 2-0 to France.

Talent

He will certainly come into Fergie's thinking as he already has appeared in 10 senior matches this term.

But there could be an SOS promotion for highly-rated Roman striker Macheda as a reward for an eye-catching hat-trick in United's 3-3 reserve draw on Monday night.

`Kiko' opened with a well struck cool penalty at St James' Park but his two open play finishes were first class.

The teenage hitman, plucked from Lazio's youth system by United in 2007, has made good progress and been elevated to Ole Solskjaer's reserve squad.

Old Trafford legend Solskjaer has already outlined Macheda's potential. He told M.E.N Sport: "Federico is a big talent. He has the ability and can score goals. It is not easy to leave your home country at 16 and come to a new culture.

"But he signed pro in August last year and has buckled down. We expected him to make progress and he has."

END QUOTE.

Let's hope he does a "Rooney" who at 17 and in his premiere shot a spectacular goal, IF I remember correctly.

This lad will make it BIG TIME, says Ole! And so do I.,,,

ANYONE ELSE think the same? OR....?
