Fire on Chingari : Lajmi pleads to Sush

The release of Kalpana Lajmi's eagerly awaited Chingari has been postponed from December to January as lead actress Sushmita Sen has refused to promote the film.

"I don't know when I'll be able to release my film. I can't until my leading lady Sushmita Sen decides to promote and project the film. She's not just my USP, but also the film's whole and soul.

"Chingari without Sush is like Agra without the Taj Mahal. You cannot imagine the film without her. She's as integral to it as Shabana Azmi in Arth or Dimple Kapadia in Rudaali . I can't take the film to the audience without her."

What Kalpana is reluctant to spell out is Sushmita has taken offence to a story in a newspaper in which the film's romantic lead, Anuj Sawhney, bragged about how many retakes he did for a kissing sequence with Sushmita and even leaked a picture of the scene to the paper.

"I've repeatedly tried to contact Sush to explain my point of view. I had nothing to do with what the film's romantic lead had to say. He denies having said anything. But I know him better. I don't want to say anything about him now. My film is in enough trouble. I am a small filmmaker. As it is my film is in deep financial trouble. I can't bear any more delays."

Kalpana has made repeated efforts to contact Sushmita, but in vain.
"Though I have spoken to her mom and been in touch with her sister on the SMS, I haven't been able to speak to Sush."

Sounding utterly bereft and on the verge of tears, Kalpana doesn't know whom to blame for the current impasse with the leading lady.

"I don't blame Sushmita at all for her annoyance. She is a lady of great dignity. And by speaking like that, my romantic lead has made her feel compromised. As a woman and a sensitive filmmaker I completely empathise with her. But she can't punish the film for the wrongs of an individual."

Kalpana is willing to apologise publicly to Sushmita.

"Though I am in no way responsible for what happened I apologise to Sush. All said and done the director is responsible for everything that happens to the film."

Akshaye-Priyanka in Dharmesh Darshan's next

After making one successful (Dhadkan) and two unsuccessful films (Haan... Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, Bewafaa) with Akshay Kumar, Dharmesh Darshan has taken a cue from his brother, Suneel. They have moved on.

While Suneel's recent Barsaat featured Bobby Deol, Dharmesh is all set to launch a new film. And the leading man this time is Akshaye Khanna, who has suddenly become adventurous with his selection of  roles -- from playing Mahatma Gandhi's son in Feroz Khan's movie in the making to Darshan's musical.

Dharmesh's Aap Ki Khatir is said to be loosely inspired from Clare Kilner's romantic comedy The Wedding Date. It will see Akshaye opposite Priyanka Chopra for the first time. The two were supposed to come together in Abbas-Mustan's Humraaz but Priyanka opted out.

Dino Morea is expected to join the cast, playing a suave womaniser.

The musical will also feature Suniel Shetty in a pivotal role.

"Dharmesh's Dhadkan gave me a new lease of life as an actor," says Suniel. "I'm sure this time he'll do something mindblowing again."

Govinda ditches Salman Khan

Producer Mukesh Talreja faced huge losses when Govinda cancelled two days shooting at Rishikesh to come to Mumbai for Stardust Awards in order to felicitate Dilip Kumar.

Salman and a unit of 80 people were left stranded. To top it all, the tardy actor reached Mumbai after the award show was over, so it was all a waste.

The film Govinda was shooting for is 'Salam-E-Ishq'. It is a remake of 'Love Actually' and is being directed by Nikhil Advani.

Now a watch named after Shah Rukh Khan

After lending his name to a scent among other things, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will soon have a watch named after him.

To be made by luxury sports watchmaker Tag Heuer, the watch is likely to be out by the end of this year.

This was announced at a press conference in New Delhi on Sunday by SRK on the occasion a preview of a new watch "Monaco 69" by the brand.

SRK is the brand ambassador of Tag Heuer.

"Honestly I am not going to design the watch but I would choose a watch that fits my personality from a posse of watches that professionals will design. I would like it to be called SRK," said King Khan.

"It was hundred years ago that Tag Heuer was bought for the first time in India. Plans are afoot to launch the watch in Shah Rukh's name and we are sure to have it by the end of this year," said Ravi Thakran, president, Asia Pacific, LVMH Watch & Jewellery.

LVMH is a world luxury brand group and tag Heuer is a part of the group.

Trap shooting ace and Olympics silver medallist Lt Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was honoured with the "Tag Heuer young achiever award" by SRK on the occasion.

Anil Kapoor is no longer a Friend: Anupam Kher

Friendships in filmdom seem to be a passing fancy, if not a matter of convenience to be done away with whenever the friend is no longer useful.

Another close friendship in filmdom has been rudely and suddenly terminated.

Anupam Kher his wife Kirron, Anil Kapoor and his wife Sunita were inseparable. Until lately the foursome went together to almost every do worth going to.

I've been a personal witness to the Anupam-Anil friendship. While visiting Anil for breakfast, I saw Anupam suddenly appear at Anil's home demanding some breakfast He had just landed in Mumbai and his wife was not on town.

The two looked more like family than friends. "We're inseparable," Anil face had crinkled up warmly. "You could say he's my best friend in the film industry."

So what went wrong? Unlike Anil who denies any friction in their friendship Anupam who's basking in the critical success of Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara comes surprisingly clean.

"Yes it's true Anil and I are no longer friends卆t least it appears that way from his behaviour. For the last three months he has stopped talking and communicating with me entirely. All my efforts to reach out to him have been stonewalled. I've given up now."

"I've realized friendships in this industry, no matter how strong they may seem are only about convenience. The day you stop being useful the frienship ends," Anupam sounded more sad than bitter as he prepared to leave for New York.

So what went wrong? According to a mutual friend of the twosome, "It all started when Anupam decided to produce Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara. Anil was already in the thick of making his film about the troubled relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal with Darshan Jariwala and Akshaye Khanna in the two roles."

"Anil clearly saw Anupam's production plans as an encroachment in his territory. He in fact wanted Anupam to play Gandhi. But Anupam declined, thereby triggering off a cold war between the two."

Anupam baulks at the suggestion that it was the Gandhian aspirations that destroyed the friendship.

"How could Anil feel threatened by Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara? My film isn't about Mahatma Gandhi. It's about a man who thinks he killed Gandhiji. If this is the reason for his anger then I'm sorry to say he's completely misinformed."

Whatever the reason, one of filmdom's most durable friendship has ended.
