[size=2.8em]Klose's hat trick gives Germany point in 3-3 draw with Finland
[size=2.8em]
[size=2.8em]HELSINKI, Finland - Miroslav Klose scored a hat trick Wednesday to help Germany come back and earn a point at Finland in a 3-3 World Cup qualifying draw.
Finland led three times, with goals from Jonatan Johansson in the 33rd minute, Petri Vayrynen in the 43rd minute and Daniel Sjolund in the 53rd minute.
Klose, recently criticized for ineffective performances, took advantage of some slack marking to even the score at 1-1 in the 38th minute.
"All the time I have confidence for Klose," Germany coach Joachim Loew said. "His qualities are known for us all, and I had the feeling that he was to be better. That was to be seen in practices lately. Our faith in him got rewarded."
Klose hit back even faster the second time, allowing Finland to lead only for a minute by scoring his second goal in the 44th minute.
Finland conceded the third goal after a save by goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen hit a defender and the ball went back into play before Klose's finish.
Sjolund gave Finland some spark, scoring after coming in for injured striker Mikael Forssell.
In the 53rd minute, Germany conceded a corner as goalkeeper Robert Enke made a leg save on an effort by Johansson. After a corner kick, Vayrynen centred from the left with Sjolund timing his jump to perfection, heading from close in.
Sjolund also played the ball into the box where Vayrynen, coming in with force, gave Finland a 2-1 lead.
The Germans took over the last half hour with Finland defender Petri Pasanen twice clearing off the goal line.
"We saw we were lacking in the defence, we made mistakes there, but the centres were good and our positioning was not the best," Loew said. "Both these central defenders are young and not that experienced, but I will trust them."

Bayern unveil new four-wheeled signing
MUNICH, Germany (AFP) - Bayern Munich have revealed their biggest signing so far this season - a new luxury bus costing half a million euros that will drive them to and fro the country's Bundesliga stadiums.
Complete with four plasma television screens transmitting every possible channel, DVD players and internet access, the players can hardly complain of being bored during their trip.
And while they are rounding off their league match at Cologne on Saturday, the driver of the shiny black pullman - Sandra Konig - will be busy preparing a post-game snack in the bus's integrated kitchen.
Pushing the comfort levels to the max, the hi-tech lighting set-up in the bus allows players to relax even further - and the ceiling has been transformed to look like the night sky.
It's all been designed, says team manager Uli Hoeness, to help spur the players on to victory.
"This bus is an important addition when it comes to helping the team to win," said Hoeness.
"The more relaxed they are when they arrive at the stadium, the better our chances of performing well."
Bayern, Germany's biggest club, has been comparatively quiet on the transfer market this summer, signing Tim Borowski from Werder Bremen and taking Massimo Oddo on loan from AC Milan.
Ahead of their luxury trip to Cologne Saturday, Bayern sit seventh in the table on five points after three games. |

Bremen's Schaaf disappointed by draw with minnows
BREMEN, Germany (AFP) - Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf admitted his side must improve on Tuesday night's 0-0 draw with Champions League debutantes Anorthosis Famagusta if they have any chance of progressing
Anorthosis became the first team from Cyprus to reach the competition's group stage after beating Greece's Olympiakos in the final qualifying round, but despite facing a weak defence, Bremen failed to score.
With Inter Milan and Greek side Panathinaikos also in Group B, Schaaf knows Bremen will need to move up a level if they are to have any chance of making the knock-out phase.
"It's notable that we had five or six big chances, but didn't take them," said a disappointed Schaaf.
"Against such an opponent, I would expect us to do better and play with more energy.
"You have to take chances like these in Europe, but we didn't."
Bremen's poor record in Europe continues.
Since their return to the Champions League in 2004, the Green-Whites have never managed a win in their opening game of the competition.
"We seem to have only one motto (in Europe): prepare well, play well, fall apart well," said an unimpressed Schaaf.
With Germany midfielders Clemens Fritz and Torsten Frings playing alongside Brazilian Diego, Bremen were at full-strength, but lacked much in the way of finishing as they failed to convert a string of chances.
Former Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro was Bremen's most industrious player and had their best effort with a header straight at Famagusta goalkeeper Arjan Beqaj on 24 minutes.
On a night of few chances for the guests, Anorthosis were at their most dangerous five minutes from time when Greek defender Traianos Dellas hammered in his shot from 25 metres out, but Bremen goalkeeper Tim Weise dealt with it.
Bremen will have to raise their game when they travel to Milan to face Inter in the next round on October 1, while Anorthosis will host Panathinaikos in Cyprus. |

Bayern Hold On In Bucharest Steaua Bucureşti 0-1 Bayern München
Jurgen Klinsmann's Bayern Munich travelled to Romania looking to kick-start their season and return to Champions League action with a bang.
However, they ventured into the Stadionul Ghencea to take on Steaua Bucureşti without Franck Ribery, Hamit Altintopor or Willy Sagnol.
First Half
After a cagey start, the hosts tested Michael Rensing on ten minutes when Dayro Moreno's long-range effort had to be smothered.
That attempt aside, though, the Militarii were content to sit back and soak up the inevitable German pressure. However, they didn't hold out for long, for the Bavarian giants would take the lead on 15 minutes.
Bastian Schweinsteiger spun a perfect free-kick into the area and stopper Daniel Van Buyten was able to find enough space to glance a header past despairing 'keeper Robinson Zapata.
With Lyon and Fiorentina lying in wait in a tricky group, Klinsmann would be hoping that the floodgates would start to creak open.
It was Marius Lăcătuş, though, who instructed his troops to push on in search of an equaliser. He must have been Lovin it when the midfielder stung the hands of Rensing with another long-bomb. The rebound fell to Antonio Semedo, who could only ripple the side netting.
And Rensing was in the firing line again on the half-hour mark. The overworked goalie sensationally booted Moreno's effort off his own post in a most un-Kahn-like moment.
After that near-howler, Die Roten decided that clear daylight before the interval would be useful and went ridiculously Klose when Miroslav's cross was diverted towards goal by Luca Toni.
The inspired Zapata made a great save and made another one from Schweinsteiger's subsequent long-range piledriver.
Thus the half ended, with Bayern just about value for their narrow lead. By now the rain was lashing down and a tough shift awaited the losing Roş-Albaştrii after the break.
Second Half
Magica Steaua, though, flew out of the traps from the restart and set about their more illustrious visitors with renewed verve.
First, Szekely's long-range effort was turned wide by Rensing.
Then, after an incisive breakaway, an offside-looking Arturo Bernhardt finally did beat Rensing, only to see his effort strike the post.
Currently less-than-prolific Italian forward Toni could have finally put plucky Steaua to bed, but he couldn't beat the impressive Zapata after racing into a one-on-one situation. He should have done better, but fired straight at the goalie.
Lukas Podolski was brought on as a half-time sub, but couldn't make the kind of impact a nervous-looking Klinsmann would have been looking for.
With 15 minutes remaining, Steaua had yet another golden opportunity. They had little problem fashioning great chances in the second half, a fact which will encourage the boss.
This time, they actually had the ball in the back of the net. Rensing, having a mare in the rain by this point, spilled Moreno's effort, but Stancu's point-blank finish was flagged offside and the Bundesliga side were let off the hook once more.
Moreno was always keen to shoot, but his tired late effort was eagerly scooped up by a beleaguered Rensing.
Although four minutes of stoppage tie were indicated, the second half effort in tough conditions had taken it out of the hosts and so it finished.
Der FCB, then, held out for three crucial away points. |
