Aamir Khan is not that type

We all know that Siddardh is playing a major role in Rang De Basanti which is releasing soon. Ask him if Aamir Khan did a dirty work by asking the filmmaker to trim down Siddardh's role, he vehemently denies.

"Aamir is not that type of a person, we all have our own roles to play and each of it has its own importance. I wish the trend of multistarrers catch up with the telugu cinema too. If it happens i will be the first person to act in such films. But is he ready to move onto greener pastures? "Hey, i know what you are getting at. I have already proved myself here and i'm happy. I have no intention to start something there all over again," says Siddardh.

Dwivedi to make 'Prithviraj-Sanjukta' with Sunny Deol

After his "Pinjar", a powerful paean to the partition of India, filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi is all set to launch "Prithviraj-Sanjukta" with Sunny Deol in the lead.
Raj Kumar Santoshi, who was planning a similar film with Ajay Devgan, has withdrawn his project averting a replay of the "Bhagat Singh" kind of confrontation between Sunny and Ajay when both were playing the freedom fighter in separate films at the same time in 2002.

Dwivedi had met Sunny over several lengthy sessions before finalising the actor for the coveted part.

The director, who shot to fame as the maker of India's first televised bio-pic "Chanakya", has decided to go ahead with the project. He has finalised a producer.

"It isn't Sunny. Though he'd have loved to produce this film but he has burnt his hands too often. I had been warned against Sunny. But when I met him I knew he was just right for Prithiviraj. When I met him I told him this role was not in keeping with his image and that I wouldn't let him do what he has been doing."

Apparently UTV had agreed to produce Dwivedi's historical but backed out after Santoshi announced his project.

Actress Sushmita Sen is also expected to be a pivotal part of "Prithviraj-Sanjukta", though not in the title role.

Another project planned by the director is "Ashoka", featuring in all probability Richard Gere. Dwivedi has reservations about Santosh Sivan's version of "Asoka".

"I feel he was not so much interested in recreating Ashoka's life as going into specific areas of the emperor's personality. Santosh's film wasn't chronologically correct either. It took too many historical liberties. Even 'Mangal Pandey' disappointed at so many levels. But I won't give up making historicals."

Dwivedi's earlier work "Pinjar" suffered due to bad marketing.

"The producer and I couldn't see eye to eye on the marketing. Eventually I will have to produce my own films. But I remain fascinated by historicals. I would love to make a non-historical film but I end up going back in history."

Some recent historicals:

1. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's "Chanakya" (Doordarshan)

2. Santosh Sivan's "Ashoka"

3. Shyam Benegal's "Bose - The Forgotten Hero"

4. Raj Kumar Santoshi's "The Legend Of Bhagat Singh"

5. Ketan Mehta's "Sardar"

6. Jabbar Patel's "Ambedkar"

7. Ketan Mehta's "Mangal Pandey"

8. Feroz Khan's "The Mahatma Versus Gandhi" (ready for release)

9. Ashutosh Gowarikar's "Jodha-Akbar" (in the pipeline)

10. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's "Prithviraj-Sanjukta" (in the pipeline)

11. Chandraprakash Dwivedi's "Ashoka" (in the pipeline)

Deepak Tijori opts for Sunny

Is Deepak Tijori planning a film with Sunny Deol? Well, that抯 the buzz in the industry. The rumours gathered momentum when Tijori met Deol for a film project a few days ago. 揑抳e just had a meeting with Sunny. I narrated the story idea to him, he liked the concept. Beyond that there抯 nothing to add,

'Shah Rukh, Abhishek more attractive than me!'

Actor John Abraham on winning The Most Desirable Male title!

Bipasha is The Most Desirable Indian Woman alive - no surprise! Now, the world's most exciting countdown as far as India goes - Zoom's Red Hot Countdown - announces the Most Desirable Indian Male alive. And once again, it's no co-incidence that the winner is the hunky John Abraham.

His muscular anatomy, together with his rugged features; his love for bikes, sports and adventure and his urban outlook are some of the reasons behind his soaring DQ (read: Drool Quotient).

"It's a very special feeling, especially since it's a public poll and that too, conducted by the extremely top of mind in Zoom and Indiatimes. It makes me feel very wanted.

I'd like to thank all those who voted for me for making me feel so special. I've always reiterated that my fans are my strongest point and this only proves my case,"says John.

Having beaten the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, several sport personalities, politicians, etc., John modestly goes on to say, "I think there are many out there like Shah Rukh, Abhishek and a lot of others who are all the more attractive than me in more ways than one.

There are basic tenets about a person's personality that get voted for. But the fact remains that the others excel, too, in fact more than me."

So what does John think was his winning point? "I would never know. I guess my ability to connect with the masses could be what made me win,"says the actor. Now being touted as the sexiest man, does better-half Bipasha get upset when the females (or even males) go gaga over Johnny Bravo?

"On the contrary,"counters John, "Bipasha is very supportive and feels very good about the fact that my audience has increased. She tells me, 'Look John, I can see they've increased - more and more people want to see you.'

And I am so oblivious to these things. But I guess that helps me being ME. I never rate, and in that way, never over-rate myself."

But does John see red when beloved Bipasha is touted as 'sexy' or glanced upon? "It's a compliment that men feel the way they do about her.

They like the way she looks. But I guess be it with any woman, if you cross the line, you'll have to deal with someone like me. And I know how to discipline people,"says the perfect gentleman.

So now with Bipasha being voted as The Most Desirable Indian Woman and John, The Most Desirable Indian Male, the handsome duo could well be hailed as the 'hottest' Indian couple in the world.

John explains, "In mathematical terms two positives always make a positive. But I guess Bipasha and I are poles apart in terms of personality.

She is the positive and I the negative and that is one formula that doesn't always give a positive. So, I can't vouch for the fact that we are the hottest couple.

But if people do insist that we are, let me tell you Bipasha gets accredited 99 per cent for that, while I am responsible for just the measly 1 per cent."

Does Saif avoid female directors?

It seems Saif Ali Khan's stars don't jell with women directors. First Aparna Sen's maiden Hindi film Gulel sank after Saif kept her on hold for months before finally saying no. Then it was Zoya Akhtar who had to scrap Luck By Chance when Saif couldn't make up his mind.

Now a third female director, Sai Paranjpye, has reportedly been turned away. But Saif has no knowledge about Sai's project. Shooting for Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Eklavya in Jaipur, Saif rebutted Sai's claim.

"I have never met Sai Paranjpye. I have no idea where this comes from. I don't know the lady at all. I wish her all the best. But I am not doing her film because I don't know her," Saif said.

He said the only film he had said yes to was Siddharth Anand's next. "I am very pleased with the way Salaam Namaste shaped up, and its box office performance. I heard Siddharth's next script. It's a metro-centric film. And Yes, I am doing it," he said.

After getting noticed in the United Kingdom and the Gulf countries, Bollywood is now charming its way into the Scandinavian country of Norway.

'I feel tired only when I don't work'

Shah Rukh Khan has just finished a quick, late lunch (at 6.30 pm). He's been up and active since early morning, teeing off at the TAG Heuer Precision golf tourney and facing a battery of mediapersons in a press conference thereafter.
All of which don't show on him as he settles down for a tete-a-tete later in his suite. "I don't feel I'm 40," he grins. "I feel the same energy as 15 years ago. There's an old saying that goes, 'the more you practise, the easier the job becomes.' It applies to me. Workload and stress are all a state of mind. My family and friends take the toll on my behalf when I fall sick."

Bollywood's undisputed king has his own definition of workaholism: "I feel tired only when I don't work. Since I like to work fast and take up new work even as one assignment gets over, I don't give myself free time. That way, I ensure I never feel tired."

Success, wealth, power - he has it all. So, what's left to achieve? "As an actor, I'd rate myself 4.5 on a scale of 10 -I do set high standards for myself. I intend to reach 9 someday. Work, to me, is more of a spiritual extension of myself. At this stage, I just go by one notion: My kids should be proud of whatever work I do."

Shah Rukh Khan says he feels tired only when he doesn抰 work. His 2006 roster is a mixed bag. He has his hopes pinned on Farhan Akhtar's remake of Don, Karan Johar's Kabhi   Alvida Na Kehna  and  Farah Khan's Happy New Year.

Which brings us to his favourite subject - his children, Aryan and Suhaana. The grin again, on that dimpled chin, as we broach the topic. Do his son and daughter root for him? "They do, but that may be because I'm dad. My son, though, has also started rooting for Abhishek Bachchan post Dhoom."
His 2006 roster is a mixed bag: Farhan Akhtar's remake of Don is "a film that we're not out to improve but re-interpret". Buddy Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna will have "the look and feel of a KJ film but it's unlike anything he has done before". These films, as also Farah Khan's Happy New Year, will kickstart "a new phase" in his career.

We'll watch out, SRK.

SRK, Preity in a music video!

Many a time, we hear of Bollywood stars doing projects or promotions just for the sake of goodwill. And from what we can see, Subi Samuel enjoys a lot of it! The talented photographer has turned producer with the film Alag, starring Dia Mirza and Akshay Kapoor. Like many other movies, this movie will also have a promotional music video. And the music video will perhaps have the biggest starcast ever!
Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen have agreed to make appearances in the video. The concept of the video is these stars giving their good wishes. Subi is really happy that all the people he has worked with in the past are supporting him in his debut venture. The movie, as well as the video, has been directed by Ashu Trikha. The song in question has been composed by Adesh Srivastava whereas the lyrics have been penned by Nusrat Badr.

Govinda to play flunkey in Salaam-E-Ishq?

Nikhil Advani is currently in the process of shooting his ambitious project, Salaam-E-Ishq, starring Govinda. On Saturday, the unit was seen wrapping up some portions with Govinda and Shannon Esra, in Agra. The actor was seen in the getup of a taxi driver. The scene involved an argument between the two, because Govinda had taken Shannon to the actual Taj Mahal, instead of the hotel!
Just like Amitabh Bachchan in Deewar and Coolie, Govinda was seen wearing a badge with 786 on it. Let抯 hope that this badge brings him some much needed luck, like it did for Bachchan!

Life's sailing smoothly for Shilpa

Shilpa Shetty has been appreciated more for her looks than for acting skills. The leggy beauty was noticed more in item numbers than her solo films.

Anyway, Shilpa seems to be serious about honing her acting skills. Her last notable performance was Revathy抯 Phir Mienge.

Shilpa Shetty opens up in an exclusive chat:

On Marriage: You don't plan, it just happens. Though I don't think it will happen for another year. Films are my priority.

Association with PETA: I feel towards this cause. Our pets at home are family. If I can make a little difference to their lives, why not go for it?

Slim 'n' trim: I guess I'm genetically blessed but still I don't go overboard on what I eat.

What抯 on the work front: A Ritesh Sidhwani film, opposite John Abraham, and Apne, which has Sunny Dharmendra and Bobby Deol

Future: I have become selective with roles because I can afford to.

Fardeen no more a Playboy!

Hottest hunk of Bollywood is riding high, well if not on success then surely on love. Lost in love Fardeen Khan is even willing to give up his lover boy image. He tells us why.

AH! MARITAL BLISS
According to Fardeen, he doesn't want to do any more of "steamy shower scenes" as it might disturb the marital bliss he is enjoying with Natasha. "I usually discuss these things with my wife and I believe she doesn't have any problem if I kiss my co-star on screen but I myself feel that I should respect her feelings and should not do anything which will let her feel bad or cheated. I love Natasha very much and if something is not within reasonable limits for her, I think I must stay away from it," says Khan.

LOVER BOY? NO MORE!
After being tagged as a Playboy for playing romantic, flirty roles in films like Janasheen, Prem Agan, Jungle, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Fardeen aims to break the monotony. He says, "Due to my roles in my initial films, I got tagged as a Playboy but after I worked in films like No Entry and Fida, I have been successful in breaking that stereotype. In fact, I am no more excited about doing purely romantic movies. Initially, it was OK but now after doing couple of films I feel that I should diversify myself and in my last few films, I have consciously tried to experiment. I aim at doing diverse roles so that I get out of the mould of romantic roles."

ALL IS NEED IS...
The actor's last few films have failed to make an impact on the audiences. What does he have to offer now? "Now, all I need is a hit as most of past films have not been able to do well at the box office. Neither Janasheen  nor Fida  were upto the mark. Now, I have kept my fingers crossed for my forthcoming films. I wish I get a huge hit in the coming months," hopes the star.

We hope so too Fardeen!

Hearing in Salman case postponed

Hearing in the black buck case against Bollywood star Salman Khan could not be taken up on Wednesday and was postponed to February 3 after lawyers went on a strike to protest against the murder of a colleague.

Advocates in the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court have been on strike since Tuesday over the murder of a fellow lawyer, Suresh Sharma.

A delegation of advocates met the Suprintendent of Police on Wednesday demanding a speedy inquiry into the incident and arrest of those involved in the killing.

The police have so far been able to trace the two-wheeler used by the suspects of the murder.

Star TV shelves Amitabh game show

The remaining 23 episodes of Star TV's game show "Kaun Banega Crorepati II" have been shelved and the programme has been called off as of now, with its anchor Amitabh Bachchan informing the channel that he would take a longer time than expected to resume the shoots.

Since the channel has run out of episodes from its banks, and with no signs of Amitabh returning to the sets, Star TV has finally called it a day for "KBC-Dwitiya," officials said on Wednesday.

"No fresh episode of KBC II will be shot ... Bachchan, who is in the process of recovering from his illness, has informed us that he will take longer to recover than earlier expected," Star India official Sameer Nair said.

The final blue print with regard to this decision is being worked out and will be declared in the next 3-4 days. The option of roping in Amitabh's actor son Abhishek Bachchan was considered but could not be worked out due to non-availability of dates.

Salman tended the bar!

Riddhima Kapoor tied the knot in true Bollywood fashion.

It's now the turn of another Kapoor daughter to shift base to Delhi. Two days after her marriage to Delhi-based Bharat Sahni in Mumbai, Riddhima is all set to reach her sasural.

As the bridegroom told us from Mumbai, "At last we are married. I am very lucky that she will be there with me forever. The wedding was a great experience and now we are looking forward to the reception tomorrow."

The shaadi, of course, was a star-studded affair. And even the sangeet and mehndi had everyone in attendance.

The guest list read like who's who from the industry: Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri, Anil Kapoor, Rekha, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan with wife Pinki, Sridevi with husband Boney Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Simi Garewal, Dimple Kapadia, Jeetendra with wife Shobbha, Tusshar Kapoor, Ektaa Kapoor, Amrita Singh with daughter Sara, among others.

The sangeet saw its fair share of fun, with the golden moments being when the bride and groom took to the dance floor to the beats of Stand By Me.

Not to be left behind, Rishi and Neetu danced to their evergreen Khullam Khulla Pyar Karenge number.

The guest of honour and Riddhima's childhood crush Salman had the whole gathering drinking out of his hands when he decided to tend the bar.

Hitting the dance floor with a vengeance, the two Khans - SRK and Salman - performed to their respective numbers. Now that's what we call a Big Fat Kapoor wedding!

Manisha begins campaigning, but appears ill at ease

This family saga is straight from a Bollywood potboiler. Actress Manisha Koirala has started campaigning for the civic polls in Nepal as she and her relatives find themselves on opposite sides of the political divide.

Manisha, a staunch supporter of King Gyanendra and the monarch's power seizure last year, flew down from the capital on Wednesday to Biratnagar in southeastern Nepal to drum up public support for the local elections scheduled for February 8.

Though the state media highlighted the arrival of the actress to campaign for the controversial polls, the Bollywood star who spends most of her time in Mumbai seemed ill at ease in the role of the loyal daughter returning home to help during a crisis.

Dressed in trousers instead of the traditional salwar-kurta or sari, Manisha had difficulty speaking in Nepali, switching over frequently to English.

"I am following the principles of my grandparent," she told the state-run Nepal Television channel, referring to the late BP Koirala, one of the most charismatic leaders of Nepal and the country's first elected prime minister.

In the 1960s, BP Koirala, who headed the Nepali Congress party, had his government dismissed by the then king Mahendra and was sent to prison.

Now nearly five decades later, history has repeated itself in Nepal with Mahendra's son Gyanendra seizing power and sending opposition leaders to prison.

Currently led by BP Koirala's youngest brother and Manisha's granduncle Girija Prasad Koirala, the Nepali Congress is now leading a seven-party alliance that is opposing Gyanendra's direct rule as well as the February 8 elections.

The Koiralas, also called the Kennedys of South Asia, are a divided house today. Two of BP Koirala's sons are in two camps.

While Shashank Koirala, a senior leader of the Nepali Congress, has chosen to follow his uncle GP Koirala and oppose the king, his elder brother Prakash has been expelled from the party for supporting the king.

Recently, Prakash Koirala formed a new party, the Nepali Congress (Nationalist), and is now a minister in the king's cabinet. His party is taking part in the elections.

GP Koirala's daughter Sujata supports her father and so does another scion of the family -- Shekhar Koirala, son of GP Koirala's elder brother Tarini Prasad Koirala.

While Prakash and Manisha Koirala are campaigning for the civic polls, GP Koirala and the other Koiralas are asking voters to boycott the exercise and the international community to de-recognise it.

"Shamita is hotter than me" - Shilpa

After kicking butt in Dus, Shilpa Shetty is now off on a world tour with Sunny Deol and Aftab Shivdasani. No points for guessing who would shine among the four left feet.

Shilpa laughs. 揃oth my releases this week tapped more than just my dancing potential. In Dus I actually do stunts. That one kick I pulled off has got so widely noticed ! I can抰 believe the impact. And in Fareb Shamita and I are the only sisters in Hindi cinema to have appeared together. Isn抰 that cool?
