I dan hubby dah lama plan nak bawak anak2 ke Singapore tapi sentiasa ada halangan. Tahun ni kita org nekad nak bawak jugak diorg pi. Maybe during Chinese New Year nanti. Rasa2 nya packed tak Singapore time cuti Chinese New Year ni? Betul ker Universal Studio dah bukak kat Singapore..kalau betul, lagi ler berkobar2 rasa nak pi sana....

Last Dec drove into singaland. 1st time bawak keta

Takla susah sangat. Tapi yg penting kena ada GPS. Kalu dak, terkial2 la nak tengok map & signage jalan. Kalau banyak time nak jalan2 & discover takpe. Kalau nak kejar masa & straight to the point type, bawak2la GPS tu. Tapi eloklah GPS map tu update. Haku punya map lama gak tapi bolehla.

Petugas2 immigration singaland ni beretika. Kalo nak eksen pun dema boleh sangat but contrarily, they are very courteous. Kebetulan yg jumpa pun officer2 melayu. But I'd say yg non-malays pun sama gak. Good work ethics.

Lebih banyak sight seeing drpd shopping. Went to Sentosa. Parking kat monorail station tu kena $3/entry. Tapi tempat2 lain kalo tak salah, by the hour. Sakit gak kalo kena charge ikut jam. Beach dia ok la... tak turun dari tram pun sebab kami dari east coast. Dah kurang teruja bila tengok pantai (kecuali kalau di pulau2 spt perhentian yg airnya masih crystal clear...). Yg buat spoil permandangan tu nampak banyak sgt kapal2 parking. Teruk sangat ke economy downturn sampai banyak betul kapal tak jalan?

Since pergi 3 days & 2 nites, kami pergi Singapore Science centre & Singapore discovery. Interesting & good sebab educational. Yg syok kat Singapore discover ni sebab buleh main tembak pistol (modified) & paintball rifle... utk aku aje la. Bebudak takat tengok aje bapak syok sindrik...

Accommodation kat hotel 81 bencoolen & tristar (2nd nite). Kat tristar ni (masa check-in late nite) ada sorang budak melayu tu kasi standard room ($89) instead of damily ($139).  Very, very nice of him (big THANK YOU).

Mustafa center...the only time kami pergi shopping. OKla... tapi maybe we expected it to be much better. Barang quite rasonable tapi maybe we had higher expectation. Cekelat kat Langkawi (masa offer) jauh lagi murah dari Mustafa.

Murtabak. Between Zam2 & Victory, our family vote Zam2 wins..quite hands down.

Ok, sepintas lalu our brief holiday in Singaland. Overall, quite satisfying & fun. I'd say 70% +ve.

Yup... opening today!

Staff at Resorts World Sentosa gear up for soft opening on Jan 20

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s first integrated resort opens its doors to the public on Wednesday.

There will be 8,000 employees working behind the scenes to keep Resorts World Sentosa running.

The whitewashed corridors at the integrated resort link almost the entire grounds of Resorts World Sentosa, which spans about 50 hectares. They connect everything from the Grand Ballroom — one of the largest in Asia, which can sit 7,300 people or hold 550 dinner tables — to the staff cafe, where meals are paid for.

Located at the basement level, the passageways are where staff scurry along from one point to the next, going about their duties almost unseen by guests.

Mahathir M D Yusop, staff, Universal Studios Singapore, said: "It is a very big place so in order to get from one point to one point, if you walk from one side, you will sweat to the other side once you reach your point!"

This is the reason why there is an intensive orientation programme for new hires.

The Central Kitchen — linking the Grand Ballroom, the convention centre and two hotels — is perhaps one of the busiest areas. Divided into eight blocks, it has a food laboratory, pastry kitchen, butchery and even a halal kitchen.

John Sloane, vice president, Culinary Operations, Resorts World Sentosa, said: "Central Kitchen acts as our heart, to supplement the other 60 restaurants which have their own individual kitchens. And 40—50 per cent of the base is coming from here to support that.

"And of course when we go on line with the casino and our food court and other areas, 90 per cent of the menu will come from here".

To ensure the freshness of the food prepared, it is delivered to the integrated resort’s other kitchens within a day.

"We are looking at a cycle time for products from the loading bay to you as a consumer between 24 and 28 hours," said Mr Sloane.

"So the products arrive early in the morning before 11 and 5 and then that evening it goes back to restaurant X, Y, Z and then the chef adds the derivatives and then it is the finished product on the plate to you as a consumer," he added.

And here is an idea of the massive undertaking by the team of about 300 chefs currently on board.

Mr Sloane said: "When we fully come on line and we have all restaurants, we will be doing between 25,000 and 30,000 meals a day and we perceive on the weekend going to 40,000 with Universal, and at its peak, to 2 tonnes of chicken a day, 1.5 tonnes of vegetables, 1.5 tonnes of seafood and multiple other items etc."

Apart from the hidden passageways for staff, there are also similar ones for high rollers, for privacy and discretion.

Also, there is an automated system to make sure that every single staff member in uniform is spiffily attired. By flashing an RFID tag, the system will recognise the staff member, the department that she/he is from, and her/his uniform size. A conveyor belt will sort through the many uniforms and within minutes, the right one will be picked out.

At the wardrobe area, workers are busy putting the finishing touches to costumes in anticipation of Universal Studios Singapore opening.

There will be about 10,000 workers at Resorts World Sentosa when it is fully operational.
