The tiger is the biggest species of the cat family.
Tigers can reach a length of up to 3.3 metres (11 feet) and weigh as much as 300 kilograms (660 pounds).
Subspecies of the tiger include the Sumatran Tiger, Siberian Tiger, Bengal Tiger, South China Tiger, Malayan Tiger and Indochinese Tiger.
Many subspecies of the tiger are either endangered or already extinct. Humans are the primary cause of this through hunting and the destruction of habitats.
Around half of tiger cubs don’t live beyond two years of age.
Tiger cubs leave their mother when they are around 2 years of age.
A group of tigers is known as an ‘ambush’ or ‘streak’.
Tigers are good swimmers and can swim up to 6 kilometres.
Rare white tigers carry a gene that is only present in around 1 in every 10000 tigers.
Tigers usually hunt alone at night time.
Tigers have been known to reach speeds up to 65 kph (40 mph).
Less than 10% of hunts end successfully for tigers
Tigers can easily jump over 5 metres in length.
Various tiger subspecies are the national animals of Bangladesh, India, North Korea, South Korea and Malaysia.
There are more tigers held privately as pets than there are in the wild.
Tigers that breed with lions give birth to hybrids known as tigons and ligers

BASIC FACTS ABOUT TIGERS
The tiger is the largest member of the felid (cat) family. They sport long, thick reddish coats with white bellies and white and black tails. Their heads, bodies, tails and limbs have narrow black, brown or gray stripes. There were once nine subspecies of tigers: Bengal, Siberian, Indochinese, South Chinese, Sumatran, Malayan, Caspian, Javan and Bali. Of these, the last three are extinct, one is extinct in the wild, and the rest are endangered.
Diet
Tigers mainly eat ambar deer, wild pigs, water buffalo and antelope. Tigers are also known to hunt sloth bears, dogs, leopards, crocodiles and pythons as well as monkeys and hares. Old and injured tigers have been known to attack humans and domestic cattle.
Population
In the early 1900s, there were around 100,000 tigers throughout their range. Today, an estimated total of around 3,000-4,500 exist in the wild. Below is a breakdown of tiger numbers by subspecies.
Bengal tiger: Less than 2,000
Indochinese tiger: 750-1,300
Siberian tiger: Around 450
Sumatran tiger: 400-500
Malayan tiger: 600-800
South Chinese tiger: Extinct in the wild
Caspian tiger: Extinct
Javan tiger: Extinct
Bali tiger: Extinct
Range
Historic tiger range ran from Turkey through South and Southeast Asia to the far eastern shores of the continent. Today, they are only found in South and Southeast Asia, China and the Russian Far East.
Behavior
Tigers occupy a variety of habitats from tropical forests, evergreen forests, woodlands and mangrove swamps to grasslands, savannah and rocky country. They are mostly nocturnal (more active at night) and are ambush predators that rely on the camouflage their stripes provide. Tigers use their body weight to knock prey to the ground and kills with a bite to the neck. They are also very good swimmers and have been known to kill prey while swimming.
Tigers essentially live solitary lives, except during mating season and when females bear young. They are usually fiercely territorial and have and mark their large home ranges.
Reproduction
Mating Season: In tropical climates, mostly from around November to April; during the winter months in temperate regions.
Gestation: 103 days.
Litter size: 3-4 cubs.
Cubs follow their mother out of the den at around 8 weeks and become independent at around 18 months of age. They leave their mothers at about 2 ½ years. Mothers guard their young from wandering males that may kill the cubs to make the female receptive to mating.

Harimau (dalam Bahasa Latin: Panthera tigris) adalah haiwan yang tergolong dalam filum Chordata(mempunyai saraf tulang belakang), subfilum vertebrata (bertulang belakang), kelas mamalia (berdarah panas, berbulu dengan kelenjar susu), pemakan daging (karnivor) , keluarga felidae (kucing) , genus panthera, dan tergolong dalam spesies tigris. Harimau adalah jenis kucing terbesar dari spesiesnya, bahkan lebih besar dari singa. Harimau juga adalah kucing tercepat kedua dalam berlari, setelah Cheetah. Dalam keseluruhan karnivor , harimau adalah kucing karnivora terbesar dan karnivora terbesar ketiga setelah beruang kutub dan beruang colat. Harimau biasanya memburu mangsa yang agak besar seperti rusa sambar, kijang, babi atau kancil. Namun, harimau akan memburu haiwan kecil seperti landak apabila mangsa yang agak besar itu tidak ada. Meskipun berasal dari keluarga yang sama, harimau berbeza dengan kucing biasa yang kecil, harimau sangat suka berenang, dan pada dasarnya kucing takut dengan air. Jenis-Jenis Harimau Yang Ada di DuniaTerdapat 9 subspesies Harimau di dunia, Namun 3 diantaranya sudah pupus. Harimau-harimau yang kini masih ada di Bangladesh, Siberia, India, China, Iran, Afghanistan, dan Asia Tenggara. Jenis-Jenis Harimau yang Saat Ini Masih wujud:
