Rafa Benitez: Keane Must Work Hard For Liverpool
Robbie Keane's future at Liverpool is shrouded in doubt, just six months after he completed a £20 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Irish striker has failed to find his feet on Merseyside, partly because he has often been used out of position but also because his finishing been largely woeful.
The 28-year-old was omitted from the weekend's FA Cup tie with Everton, sparking rumours of an imminent exit (with Goodison Park, curiously, tipped as the most likely destination).
But Keane will return to the squad when Liverpool face Wigan Athletic tonight, and Rafael Benitez has told the former Leeds United player that he must be ready to step up and deliver.
"Robbie is a good player, we knew that when we signed him," the Anfield boss told reporters, as quoted in The Sun.
"Maybe he is not playing at his best level but he must be available and ready for every game.
"To do that, he must work hard and if we consider he can give us something, then we will use him.

Liverpool owner Tom Hicks: I'm not selling - I want a new partner instead
Tom Hicks has confirmed that he is looking for a new partner to invest in Liverpool.
The Mirror revealed at the weekend that Anfield's American owner was desperately searching for fresh investment in the club, to allow him to buy out current partner George Gillett.
Hicks has approached SIX potential investors with a proposal to form a fresh business alliance to run Liverpool.
Reports had suggested that Kuwaiti billionaire Nasser al Kharafi had been looking to buy the club, but these were wildly inaccurate, and as our report stated, Hicks is refusing to sell his stake.
Instead, he said at a banquet in his native Dallas on Sunday night:"Don't believe everything you read. I'm not selling. I'm bringing in anew partner to buy out my current partner."
Sunday's fourth-round FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Everton drew a record breaking television audience to Setanta. The 1-1 draw audience peaked at 1,462,000.

Benitez: Keane Back In The Frame, But Torres-Gerrard Duo Is Key
Robbie Keane's absence from Liverpool's FA Cup fourth round line-up that faced Everton was notable, but the former Tottenham Hotspur striker will return to Rafa Benitez's side on Wednesday to face Wigan Athletic.
The Latics are a side chasing a spot in the Uefa Cup this campaign and have only conceded at a rate of just over one goal in every league game.
Keane To Score
Reds boss Rafael Benitez is hoping Keane can re-find his prolific goal-scoring touch against the frugal Greater Manchester side, and told the club's official website:
"We are thinking about using him in tomorrow's game. I will be very pleased if he can score against Wigan Athletic.
"He is working very hard and will be a very important player for the rest of the season. Keane is in the squad so we don't need to talk too much about him."
The Spaniard went onto claim that Liverpool's title ambitions are largely dependent on the formidable partnership that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres built up last season.
Tor-rard
The pair showed glimpses of that same link-up during the clash with Everton last weekend. Take Liverpool抯 goal; Gerrard began the move, played in Torres, who then sent in a delicious back-heeled flick into the path of the on-rushing Gerrard, who finished underneath a squirming Tim Howard.
Rafa Benitez said: "We know the understanding between both was crucial last season and it will be again this season now they are back together again.
"In some games they can really push defenders with their skills. The goal they created was excellent against Everton in the Cup.
"The piece of skill from Torres to create the goal shows that he is getting very close to his best again."
Benitez added: "What he did to send Gerrard away is something you do not see from many players. He certainly needed a good runner to get on the end of it.
"Fernando also needed to be aware of where Gerrard was,to see him and to find him with the ball. It was certainly something very special."
Liverpool's midweek clash with Wigan kicks-off on Wednesday evening at 19:45 GMT.
