– AFP

Nemanja Vidic admitted Manchester United had been guilty of complacency and warned his teammates they must rediscover their focus if their season is not to end in failure. In less than four weeks United have seen a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League cut to just one and face a battle to reach the Champions League semi-finals after a 2-2 draw with Porto at Old Trafford. Asked if United had eased off in recent weeks, Vidic said: "To be honest, maybe. Against Liverpool, maybe you can say we took it easier because we had a game in hand and there was a big gap in points. We didn't think we were relaxed but maybe we were. I don't like to keep saying we've had many games to play, because all teams do, but we have and I just hope our experience will see us through this."
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror
Jonny Evans echoed Vidic's sentiments, adding: 揗aybe it抯 our own fault, maybe we抳e become a bit complacent. We haven抰 been defending for our lives as well as we should have but you have stages like that. It抯 something we have to address.
rafa has been talking a lot about united's apparent problems when teams attack us..which are really unfounded to be honest..infact we love playing when teams attack us..the only thing that has changed is our now brittle defence - which is again actually because our midfield has had no bite of late.
anyway, i think chelsea just showed yesterday how liverpool can be stopped. well there is no secret to it really..we all knew that if gerrard and torres or even one of them are kept quiet..liverpool are toothless. but it was only a player like essien who could nullify gerrard..and thereby leave torres more or less useless.
and my goodness..is benitez ever going to learn that zonal marking does not work? i can't believe we did not exploit that in the league games.
our essien is hargreaves..he has been out and we have missed him in the two games against liverpool..against arsenal at the emirates..and against porto. carrick and fletcher are good passing midfielders..but they need a player like hargreaves to destroy things so that they can get on with their creative jobs. if hargreaves cant keep his fitness..we need to buy a player for next season. midfield is our only problem really.
chelsea were brilliant yesterday..i could hardly believe that i was actually enjoying them play for the very first time. it will be interesting how it will affect liverpool..
