Huntelaar And Di María – Madrid’s Two Winter Arrivals?
Following Ramón Calderón’s announcement that Real Madrid will sign two young attacking players in January, the Spanish press have begun speculating as to who the two names might be.
Having revealed that Real Madrid will make two exciting signings during the winter transfer window and even going as far as to profess that the deal could be completed in ten days’ time, Los Blancos president Ramón Calderón would not disclose the names of the two potential winter arrivals.
The only clue he gave was that they will be two young attacking players who will be eligible for the Champions League. And that shroud of mystery has sent the Spanish sports journals, particularly those based in Madrid, into an uncomfortable frenzy as they desperately attempt to dig for more details.
Marca, who broke the news two days ago in their radio program ‘La Futbolería’, have taken matters into their own hands as they begin speculating over the two possible signings.
Lazio’s Argentine forward Mauro Zárate, Wigan’s on-loan Egyptian striker Amr Zaki, Benfica winger Ángel Di María and Ajax Amsterdam hitman, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar appear to be the main four candidates to don the famous white shirt, with the Madrid-based daily showing an inclination towards the latter two.
The 25-year-old Huntelaar, although injured at present, continues to demonstrate his goal-scoring capabilities under Marco van Basten and he would be a suitable temporary deputy for countryman, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is ruled out for the rest of the campaign, as well as a permanent future replacement.
Di María, 20, will be an ideal back-up for the injury prone Arjen Robben on the left side of midfield, a position that has become hideously overstretched ever since the departure of Robinho to Manchester City in the summer, despite Royston Drenthe’s best efforts to fill the void.
Both players will be more than capable of helping Madrid this season in La Liga and the Champions League, as per Calderón’s pre-requisite, as neither of their clubs are involved in any of the stages of Europe’s blue ribbon competition.
UEFA’s ruling states that a player is eligible to feature in both the UEFA Cup and the Champions League with two different clubs. :@ |

Real Madrid Sign Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
The Ajax striker has scored an impressive 75 goals in 90 games for the Dutch side and will be eligible to play in the Champions League for the defending La Liga champions.
The only negative point is that he is injured until January and has never played for a top European side in the past, despite his age.
