Fergie doesn't fear draw
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is unconcerned about the possibility of being drawn against English opposition in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Ferguson's side booked their place in the last eight of the competition with Cristiano Ronaldo's goal at Old Trafford proving decisive as they secured a 2-1 aggregate triumph over Lyon.
Premier League rivals Arsenal also progressed with a memorable success at Milan, while Chelsea and Liverpool look set to qualify with both sides claiming sound first-leg results.
If Chelsea and Liverpool also advance then there will be four Premier League sides in the last eight, meaning an all-English clash is possible.
Unfazed
But Ferguson is unfazed about meeting a league rival, and is expecting a tough draw no matter which side United face.
"I expect Chelsea to get through and if Liverpool do too it's a 40 per cent chance of getting an English team.
"I don't think it matters who you play - they are all difficult games.
"That's why the quarter-finals throw up good teams and the important thing is to be there ourselves."
Perrin verdict
Meanwhile, Lyon manager Alain Perrin has conceded that United deserved their victory over the two legs.
He said: "You cannot argue with the fact that Manchester United deserved to go through over the two legs, even if our effort perhaps deserved more than we got.
"I think the late goal in the first leg influenced this match and we have one or two regrets from this game.
"We tried to get out of our half more but often but the pressing game that United do was a great danger for us and made it very difficult."
i feel no fear also..but i prefer negros tim.. |

Fletcher comes to the fore
Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Darren Fletcher抯 patience and determination to be an important squad member for United after turning in another impressive performance, this time against Lyon in the Champions League.
Fletcher went about his work quietly but effectively, breaking up Lyon attacks and displaying his wide range of passing, reason enough for Sir Alex to feel justified in leaving Paul Scholes on the bench.
揑t was a big decision because Scholes |

Man Utd's Ronaldo doesn't want Premiership opposition
tribalfootball.com - March 05, 2008

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he wants toface a non-Premier League side in the quarter finals of the ChampionsLeague. The 23-year-old scored the only goal inUnited's 1-0 win over Lyon at Old Trafford, to ease the Premier Leagueholders into the last eight, 2-1 on aggregate.
Arsenal are already through to thequarter-finals after their 2-0 aggregate win over Milan, and Liverpooland Chelsea are in the box seat to join them after their first legresults.
"I would prefer to play a foreign team [in thequarter finals]. Then an English team in the semi-finals or the finals, that would be fantastic," he told reporters after the game.
"The team is more mature, and the big focus isto win the Champions League. But we also want to win the PremierLeague, and the FA Cup. We have the opportunity, we have the playersand we have the squad."
Ronaldo has netted six goals in the ChampionsLeague this season, and is a good bet to be top scorer this season inthe competition.
However, the Portugal winger has played down thelure of personal milestones and insisted that he is just concentratingon making Sir Alex Ferguson's starting eleven.
"If I am top scorer, that would be wonderful, and if I get the chance, I will look forward to it. But, I am notthinking about that - I am thinking about getting my game." |
