WHAT THEY SAY
Dayang Nurfaizah, who will belt out the Di Pintu Syurga in week two, attributed the song to its composer Tam Spider and songwriter Rudy Imran.
“ The song is melodious and allows me to show off my vocal prowess.
I will do my best in the semi-finals, insya- Allah (God willing),” she said at the Press conference on AJL 29 held at Seri Pentas in Bandar Utama, recently.
In 2001, Dayang sang Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta and took home Ballad Song award.
She repeated her success in 2004 with the song Erti Hidup that won her the awardintheEthnicSong category.
Alif Satar was thankful to be in the semifinals.
“I did not expect to make it this far.
I hope I will be able to make it to the finals,” he said.
Akim Ahmad, who had made it to the semi-finals of AJL for three consecutive years (2011-2013), will mark his fourth year.
“I hope to make it to the finals this time,” he said.
Datuk Hattan is one of the few veteran artistes who enters the competition this year with his song Gadis Jolobu, in collaboration with hip hop artiste Waris.
“I am impressed with Waris’ commitment in bringing his music to the next level.
We will do our best in the semi-finals,” said Hattan.
Indah Ruhaila, one of the finalists of last year’s Akademi Fantasia 10, will be competing for the first time in the AJL semi-finals.
“To reach this level of the competition is an honour.
On top of that, I will be performing in the same week as my idol Dayang Nurfaizah.
Words cannot describe how excited and nervous I am!” Guest performers for the first week is Amir Ukays, while Elly AXL and Ezad Exists will perform on the second and third week respectively.
HONOUR TALENTS
Media Prima Television Networks chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar said the 29th instalment of AJL will continue to honour composers, lyricists and vocal talents in the local music industry.
“For the last 29 years, AJL has continued to be one of the top programmes on TV3.
“Through the competition, we have seen the development of the art of songwriting among composers and lyricists.
Similarly, we have also seen the birth of new generation of artistes, who break new grounds in the industry,” he added.
Last year, the ballad Bahagiamu Deritaku was crowned as The Song of the Year.
It was performed by Hafiz Suip, who also took home the Best Performance award.
The song was also awarded Anugerah Juara Mobile X-Pax for being the most downloaded tune.
