...eerr...actually...you cannot see protein in the urine...although very foamy urine is usually a reliable clue that protein is present...protein in urine can be detected by means of a protein dipstick or a urinalysis...:bgrin: |

...protein in urine..or proteinuria is a condition in which urine contains an abnormal amount of protein....people with diabetes, hypertension, or certain family backgrounds are at risk for proteinuria....proteinuria may be a sign that your kidneys are damaged and that you are at risk for end-stage renal disease...you may have proteinuria without noticing any signs or symptoms....testing is the only way to find out how much protein you have in your urine.. |

untuk orang cam aku pakai spek, makes good info. Seems ada device boleh cure myopia.
Seeing better, but is it for real? By Chan Tau Chou
May 12, 2005
THIRTY students from a top primary school volunteered to use an unconventional device daily in an experiment to try and fight myopia, a long-time problem in Singapore.
Nanyang Primary students taking part in last year's pilot project to test the effectiveness of the device to help myopia.
Noticing that more and more students were wearing spectacles, Nanyang Primary principal Heng Boey Hong decided to give the device a try. It has been around since 1992.
Users look at pictures of animals through an eyehole and perform eye exercises. They are also required to use a vibrating massage pen around the eye socket to supposedly improve blood circulation and vision.
So far results have been very encouraging in some cases and disappointing in others.
Opinions on the device are also divided.
One eye specialist says there will be no side effects from using the device while another has warned against it.
Tan Tock Seng Hospital's consultant ophthalmologist, Dr Yip Chee Chew, says continued usage of the device might worsen the myopia, adding that he will not recommend it to any of his patients. (See other report.)
The device, which is the brainchild of Chinese national Su Hongquan, combines electronic technology, optical science and elements of traditional Chinese acupuncture.
The inventor claims it is best suited for cases of early myopia, especially among children. (See graphics on facing page.)
On sale here for $388, the OO-Eye Exercise Device is certainly cheaper than Lasik surgery, which can cost more than $3,000. Nanyang Primary tested the effectiveness of the device from April last year.
It agreed to do so after consulting eye specialist Gerard Chuah, of Total Eyecare Centre in Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, who was satisfied that the device would have no side effects.
Thirty pupils volunteered to take part over four months.
The school newsletter reported that about 45 per cent of the pupils saw 'remarkable improvement' in their eyesight. But some 13 per cent experienced 'no improvement at all'. A recent report by the local agent for the device, Share & Care Enterprise, said the participants had myopia ranging from 100 to 700 degrees.
Mr Su claimed people with myopia below 300 degrees can 'remove their glasses for good' after using the device.
'SIGNIFICANT' IMPROVEMENT
Those above 300 degrees can improve their eyesight significantly too, he added. While they may still need to use glasses, Mr Su said that steering clear of the 'above 600-degree bracket' could prevent eye problems associated with severe myopia.
But Madam Heng observed: 'It works if you're conscientious about doing it daily. The kids do it once during recess and they're supposed to do it another time at home.
'A lot depends on whether they actually bother to do it.'
She added that many found the animal pictures used in the device 'not exciting' after some time, and tended to lose interest.
Based on data gathered by the project, a December 2004 report by the National Institute of Education found that the period of study may not be long enough for 'any significant impact to take place'.
It also raised the problem of 'proper monitoring of the pupils to ensure that they followed the 'treatment' diligently'.
Angeline Lee, then a Pri 6 pupil, told The New Paper she was 'satisfied' with the device.
She said her myopia went down from 100 to 50 degrees though she used the device only once a day.
And though she rarely uses it now, her myopia has stayed constant.
But others reported deteriorating sight after they stopped using the device.
Wong Weng Sun, a Pri 6 student last year, found initial improvement hard to maintain after she stopped using the device.
The overall improvement to her sub-300-degree myopia was 'mild'.
'The logic works,' said her mother, Madam Wong Bee Cheng.
'But it depends on the child. My child found the pictures to be unattractive, so it became difficult to sustain her attention.'
Mrs Theresa Tan, whose daughter Tan Hui Fang also took part in the project, said it worked for the 'first two to three weeks, when she could see an improvement'.
But inconsistent use and studying for the PSLE saw an erosion in the gains.
Said Mrs Tan: 'The transition period during the initial improvement was difficult because my girl continued to wear her old glasses, which had become unsuitable.
'Not everyone can afford to buy new spectacles as the eyesight improves. And when you're so tired at night after studying, sometimes even that 15 minutes seem very long and you'd rather sleep.'
NO NEED FOR SPECS
Madam Ong Suat Kuan, who made sure her daughter Nai Ze Xin, now in Pri 6, used the device twice a day over three months, agreed.
From a 100-plus degree myopia, Ze Xin was initially able to dispense with glasses altogether.
'It's very effective when you're disciplined,' said Madam Ong. 'But parents play an important part in supervising.
'For Ze Xin, once the project stopped, she stopped using it as well and her myopia resumed three months later.' |
