Ibisevic blow for Hoffenheim

Bundesliga leaders Hoffenheim will be without star striker Vedad Ibisevic for the rest of the season.

The Bosnia international, who has been in spectacular form for the Bundesliga surprise package this season, will be sidelined for six months after damaging cruciate ligaments in his right knee during a friendly with Hamburg on Wednesday.

Ibisevic flew back to Germany after the match from the club's winter training camp in Spain and an MRI scan has now confirmed that the Bundesliga's top-scorer will miss the rest of the campaign.

"His absence will be a huge weakness for us as we have lost one of our most important players," Hoffenheim general manager Jan Schindelmeiser commented.

Schindelmeiser and coach Ralf Rangnick will now be looking to find a replacement for Ibisevic, who has bagged 18 goals in just 17 league matches for Hoffenheim this season.

BREAKING NEWS: Lukas Podolski To Return To Cologne

1. FC Köln have wrapped up the signing of Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski. The move will be confirmed on Monday to take place at the end of the season...

Reports out of Germany indicate that Lukas Podolski is to end his unhappy spell at Bayern Munich by moving back to 1. FC Cologne in summer.

The German international is supposedly on the verge of penning a four-year contract worth €3m a year, while the transfer fee for Bayern is in the area of €10m.

Officials from Die Geissböcke have told 'Kölner Express' that Podolski, while not yet a Cologne player, is set to sign soon, and will not be the only new arrival this winter.

Meanwhile Bayern Munich's general manager, Uli Hoeness, acknowledged that a deal was very likely. He said today, "I think that tomorrow (Monday) the transfer will take place."

Sport says Barca sports director Txiki Begiristain reopened talks with Bayern some weeks ago over the Germany international.
Barca are seeking a left-sided fullback for next season and Begiristain has made Lahm a priority.

United States star Landon Donovan scored two goals and Bayern Munich defeated second division leaders Mainz in a friendly on Thursday, 5-0.
Donovan has four goals in five winter friendlies since joining Bayern Munich on loan from Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.
Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger also scored against Mainz, and the German champions finished the winter schedule with five wins in as many matches.
Bayern returns to competitive matches Tuesday against Stuttgart in the DFB Cup. The Bundesliga returns from winter break on Jan. 30 when Bayern plays Hamburg.
