ABHISHEK FAR AHEAD OF HRITHIK
The race for one-upmanship is on between the two young contemporary star kids, they are Abhishek Bachchan, son of millennium star Amitabh Bachchan, and Hrithik Roshan, actor-turned-producer Rakesh Roshan's son. While Hrithik became a star overnight by his home production 'Kaho Na Pyar Hai' , Abhishek remained much behind in his 'Refugee'. Later, both failed as did their movies. Even Rajshri Productions' movie 'Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon' starring both star kids failed to come to their rescue.
However, Hrithik regained his lost status once again in his 'Koi Mil Gaya' and left Abhishek far behind. However, time doesn't stay with anyone. No sooner 2005 began than the career of junior Bachchan took a fortunate turn and all his movies like 'Dus', 'Bunty Aur Babli' 'Sarkar' and 'Bluffmaster', one after another became a hit at the box office. This wondered Abhishek's critics who had forecast his doom. At present, Abhishek has several big budget movies whereas Hrithik has far less. Though Abhishek is much ahead of Hrithik at present, the movie watchers are anxiously awaiting their performance in their forthcoming movies to judge who is ahead of whom.

Rakesh Roshan finalised Priyanka for 'Krrish' at Yash Johar's funeral
Rakesh Roshan had finalized his heroine Priyanka Chopra for his blockbuster FilmKraft's KRRISH, when he saw her at Yash Johar's funeral. Admittedly, Roshan was attracted by her simple appearance, coupled by sophisticated manners. She was wearing a salwar-kameez and sporting glasses.
This was perhaps exactly what Rakesh Roshan was looking for in his heroine to play a television reporter in KRRISH, who is enamored by the invincibility of Hrithik Roshan. Besides Hrithik in the title role, and Priyanka, the film has Rekha in a key role of grandmother to Krrish, along with Manini De, Hemant Pande, Naseerudin Shah etc.
It has music by Rajesh Roshan and thrills by Tony Ching Siu of Hongkong, and Sham Kaushal, and special effects by Mark Kolbe and Craig Mumma of Hollywood, besides other crew. The film is slated for release in June.

SRK's clone Vikram plays a cop in his next
Mahima Chaudhary starrer 'Souten - The Other Woman' may have sunk without a trace but it was nothing less than funny to see a skinny young man dressing and acting almost similarly to Shahrukh Khan. The man was Vikram Kumarr who was the bone of contention of the two females Mahima Chaudhary and Kiran Rathore.
Now Vikram would be seen in the role of a cop in 'Aatma' that comes from the house of masters of horror - RAMSAYS. Also starring Kapil Jhaveri [Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya, Saawan - The Love Season], Amriena and Neha in lead roles, the film is directed by Deepak Ramsay and is slated for a May 12 release alongside Tathastu and Tom Dick And Harry.

Esha and mum Hema to work together
Producer Pritish Nandy has decided to bring Hema Malini and Esha Deol together for a film by the end of this year. There are speculations that Ankahee is not inspired by Vikram Bhatt's life but is inspired from the movie Tere Mere Sapne by Vijay Anand starring Hema Malini.
Everybody is now busy comparing Esha's role with what her mother did in Tere Mere Sapne. Esha is playing a Miss Universe in Ankahee who falls in love with a married man. Hema too had played a similar role of an actress falling in love with a married guy in Tere Mere Sapne.
Pritish feels that when both will work together in his film people will compare the two which can work like a double-edged sword for Esha Deol.

Have you noted the Mona Lisa in Bipasha?
Since decades many have tried replicating the famous MONA LISA smile, both in paintings and pictures clicked on models. Some have been good while some have been plain bad imitations.
One such replication that falls under the former category is that of Bipasha Basu where she looks mysteriously in the camera for a shot in her scary episode for this Friday's release 'Darna Zaroori Hai'.
For one of the shots captured in dark lights, Bipasha's enigmatic pose turns out to be quite similar to that of ever debated MONA LISA posture.
One doesn't know whether director Prawal Raman and the rest of his crew did it with an intention or it just resulted this way, but the fact cannot be denied that it adds on to the mystic feel of the film.

Vikram - Aftab - A winning combination
Not many may have observed but one of the heroes with whom Vikram Bhatt has worked most with is none other than Aftab Shivdasani who unfortunately continues to have hide and seek at the box office inspite of consistence performance for last few years.
Another factor that us consistent about Aftab is the appreciation that is he has always got whenever he has acted in a Vikram Bhatt directed film. Also more often than not, the role is that of a serious man, though there have been a few exceptions.
The two came together for the first time in 'Kasoor' that was a landmark film for Aftab as he was finally considered as a dependable actor. His act of a 30 something guy accused of murdering his own wife was handled excellently in this HIT flick. Later he appeared in a diametrically different role of a hen pecked husband in the riotous comedy-action 'Awara Paagal Deewana' where he showed his comic timing as he came up with an excellent tuning with the star of the show - Paresh Rawal.
Footpath came next year and though the film didn't work too well, Aftab's role of a cop who wants his childhood friends to be out of the world of crime was sensitively handled. Yet again Aftab was appreciated for his act. He played a 2 minute cameo in 'Deewane Huey Paagal' that completely went unnoticed and is THE only movie where Aftab's presence wasn't utilized to the most by the director.
Now the two come together again for 'Ankahee' that is told to be the best ever effort from both the director and the actor. While Vikram is said to be baring his heart out for this film inspired by his own life, Aftab, who has been searching for an elusive hit for quite some time now, gets a role of a lifetime to play a real life character who is stuck between two women [Esha Deol, Amisha Patel].
There is a strong buzz in the industry that after 'Kasoor', this could be the best ever coming together of Vikram and Aftab that should surpass even their work in 'Awara Paagal Deewana' and 'Footpath'!

Akshay likes Himesh's title song in Humko...
In a recent radio interview to the UK from Canada, Akshay Kumar has thanked the audience for making the UTV-distributed Humko Deewana Kar Gaye a big hit in the UK. "I would like to thank my audience for supporting the film and enjoying it. I was expecting Humko Deewana Kar Gaye to do well and I'm glad it has. I knew people would love the songs and the emotions in the film. It's a very real-life story that everyone can relate to."
Distributed internationally by UTV, the film has grossed GBP 300,000 already in its first eight days in the UK, and has also been in the news for its soundtrack being at the top spot in the UK for nearly six weeks now.
"My favorite song is the title track - the Himesh Reshammiya version. It's lovely," he added during the interview. Incidentally, Akshay is planning on singing a Punjabi track on stage during his stage shows in London and Birmingham at the end of the month.
In terms of his forthcoming plans, he said, "Earlier, I was taking risks while doing stunts. Now I would like to take risks by doing a variety of roles. I don't want to get typecast. I've signed two or three interesting projects, which will show me in a completely different light."

Salman to play Abu Salem?
Sarla Sarogi, wife of Ashok Sarogi, lawyer of extradited gangster Abu Salem, has planned to make a film on the life of Salem.
Sarogi said Salem had given a nod to Sarla to make the film and it was planned to shoot the movie in two months.
The script is almost ready but the cast has not been finalised and once that was done an announcement to this effect would be made, he said.
Efforts are being made to take Salman Khan in the lead role to play Salem and N Chandra to direct the film which shall be the first on the gangster's life.
Earlier, Salem had moved a TADA court to restrain Mahesh Bhatt from releasing his film Gangster saying it was made on his life.
However, he withdrew the petition after the court declared that it did not have the jurisdiction t decide the issue as he had raised infringement of constitutional rights.
The producer had told the court that Gangster was not on Salem's life.

Isha matches steps with Hrithik
Isha Sharvani is pleased with the results of the Hide N Seek campaign.
"Afsar Zaidi, who manages my work, told me about the ad with Hrithik. Knowing that he抯 such a fantastic actor and a fabulous dancer, I was like wow!... and readily agreed," says the trained dancer who debuted with Kisna.
Hrithik and Isha rehearsed four hours a day before they faced the camera. "It was a lot of hard work, the movements, the timings - we had to be completely synchronised. Since it抯 a club scene, I抦 dressed in trendy yet classy outfits... the stylist was chosen by the agency. Having done Kisna and a Vatika ad, where again my look was very Indian, the Hide N Seek commercial was a good opportunity to break away from that image."
For contemporary dancer Isha, dancing in stilettos was a new experience. "I抦 so used to dancing barefoot that during the shoot I was afraid of missing a step and spraining my ankle or hurting myself."
揟hat would have forced me out of action for about three months. With a couple of films already on the floors and a few interesting ones in the pipeline, I couldn抰 risk that. But all抯 well that ends well," she says.
Admitting to be "a low-profile person," Isha adds that she has just wrapped up the shooting of Shyam Bajaj抯 next venture Rocky, opposite Zayed Khan, under the direction of Suresh Krishna. While that goes into post production, "I抣l be shooting for Ashwini Chaudhary抯 Good Boy Bad Boy, a campus comedy for Mukta Arts".
In the meanwhile, Isha will also have a release in Ram Gopal Varma抯 Darwaza Bandh Rakho, helmed by Chekravarthy. She describes it as "an interesting black comedy with a treatment you抳e never seen before".
A couple of other films are in the offing, too, she says. We抣l have to wait to hear about those.

Big B is scared of Horror films!
Ram Gopal Verma's Darna Zaroori Hai is fetching mixed reviews both from viewers and critics. With its quintessential chills and thrills the film has managed to evoke fair amount of curiousity in people.
Just like Darna Mana Hai, Varma opts for multiple short stories instead of conventional single-narrative for DZH to make power packed punch. But what stand out is the ensamble cast he skillfully used for the horror flick.
It was Ramu's sheer passion for films which made Big B do DZH and that too for free.

I think Aishwarya did a great job: Chitra Divakaruni
Chitra Divakaruni's much-lauded novel The Mistress of Spices has been filmed by Paul Berges. Moving away from literary scepticism, Divakaruni who lives in Houston expresses satisfaction with her novel's screen adaptation.
Q: I believe you've seen Paul Berges' film on your book. What did you think of it. Does it capture the aromas scents and essence of your novel?
A: Yes it does! The film is a pleasure for the senses.
Q: Were you sceptical about letting your book being filmed? Has the film put your doubts to rest?
A: I was never skeptical. I knew Paul and Gurinder's work quite well. I knew how talented they are. I'm very happy with the results.
Q: What about Aishwarya Rai in the all-important role of Tilo? Does she get it right? And the rest of the cast?
A: I thought they all did a great job--I had already seen Ash in Rituparno Ghosh's Raincoat, so I knew she could do a serious role well. But some of the newer, younger actors, like Sonny Gill Dulay ,were a wonderful surprise.
Q: How was your interaction with Gurinder and Paul?
A: Always wonderful. They are very friendly and professional. We worked together closely whenever they needed my input.
Q: Would you say the film gets it right?
A: The film captures the essence of the book, though of course there will be many differences between a book and a film.
Q: Spices and aromas play a heady part on your book. Do you cook?
A: Yes, I love Indian food and spices. I'm also interested in ayurveda.
Q: What do you think of the way India is perceived in the West?
A: Different people perceive it differently. Many miss the deeper aspects of Indian culture. Food, of course, is an easy thing for foreigners to appreciate, especially since Indian food is so good!
Q: Which is your favourite novel on film?
A: I guess my favorite is Ray's Pather Panchali.
Q: What do you think of 'Bollywood'. Do you think there's potential here to go truly global ?
A: I admire many actors and actresses from Bollywood. We watch Bollywood movies regularly. They're already popular in so many countries--many of my non-Indian friends love movies such as Lagaan.
And of course Gurinder Chadha and her husband Paul Berges's Bride & Prejudice is a charming mix of the east & west.
Q: What do you think of the work being done by Gurinder Chadha, Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta. Did you see Water?.
A: I love all those wonderful Indian directors who are working from outside India. Water is coming to Houston this month. Of course I plan to see it!
Aishwarya Rai

Hrithik will be a director one day: Rakesh Roshan
Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan is ready with sci-fi thriller "Krrish", starring his son Hrithik, and says "The Lord Of The Rings" inspired him to make the sequel to "Koi...Mil Gaya".
Q: At what point of time, did you decide to make a sequel to "Koi... Mil Gaya?"
A: It was neither preconceived nor premeditated. When I saw "The Lord Of The Rings", where just a ring could carry forward the story into a trilogy, I thought, in "Koi... Mil Gaya" (KMG), I had a real living character, who can take the story forward.
And in the film an alien, Jadoo, gave Rohit supernatural powers. I couldn't have left it at that point. The concept of that passed-over power would have been incomplete without taking it forward.
What would Rohit (Hrithik of KMG) do with that special power? How would he use it for the good of humanity? He was innocent. He had no selfish motives in KMG. In "Krrish" his special powers are passed on to his son Krishna, who uses it for saving the world from disaster.
Q: How does the transition take place from an Indian hamlet to an alien country, Singapore?
A: "Krrish" begins where KMG ends. The story had to move from Rohit and Nisha. They die in a mishap (which is narrated in flashback) and their offspring Krishna is being nurtured with the same kind of fervour by his grand-ma Rekha.
But having inherited extraterrestrial powers from his father, Krishna does several rescue acts. His daredevilry is the talk of town and a TV correspondent comes probing.
Later, the story shifts, taking Krishna to Singapore, where a scientist is devising his own designs to usurp supreme powers, and Krishna's mission is to save the universe. Krishna thus transforms into Krrish - a universal entity.
Q: It is said that most of the film has been shot in Singapore.
A: Yes, almost 60 percent of the film has been shot in Singapore and their hospitality has been both humbling and heart-warming. There is not a single corner of Singapore that I have not shot in.
Q: How are you planning to return the Singapore government's hospitality?
A: "Krrish" is dedicated to the friendly people of that country. Moreover, I will be holding premieres in Singapore where my entire unit would be present.
Q: Back to "Krrish", would you concede that it is a m閘ange of Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Zorro et al?
A: This is a wrong notion. I have neither been inspired by Superman, Spiderman, Batman or whatever, nor used their illustrative daredevilry gimmicks. They were comic book characters that were later translated into celluloid heroes.
My Krrish is a real life hero. Krrish has done all the stunts himself. There is no CGs (computer graphics) where Hrithik is involved. You'd be surprised to know that even for risky shots, we have not used dupes. My special effects team that included Mark Kolbe and Craig Mumma were present throughout the shooting of the film.
They suggested Hrithik perform his own stunts, which he did with great mental and physical stress and strain. The thrills are unparalleled.
Q: Hrithik hurt himself during several shots?
A: Yes, he hurt himself but not during the shoots but while rehearsing.
Q: How was Priyanka Chopra finalised for the role?
A: Hrithik is from home and he plays the principal role. I didn't want to sign a heroine who was doing 10 films and had no matching dates because I wanted bulk dates. I wanted my entire team to focus on my film. Priyanka had the dates so I signed her.
Q: How did it strike you that besides her availability Priyanka would suit the character?
A: I had seen her dressed in a simple salwar-kameez with glasses at the funeral of Shri Yash Johar. Her appearance struck me as someone down-to-earth, practical and simple.
I was looking for a character with just those kind of looks and appearance. I decided then and there that Priyanka would play the TV journo that I was looking for.
Q: There is a negative image attached to Priyanka, don't you think it would affect your film?
A: I have always believed that the image of an actor does not take a film to success, but it is the film that gives an image to an actor. It all depends on how you present your character. I am not concerned with stars or their images, but their characters in my film.
Q: Does her character as a Star TV reporter have anything to do with your tie-up with the channel for "Krrish"?
A: Yes, it does have.
Q: Why did you rope in Salim-Suleiman to give the background score of the film? Your brother Rajesh Roshan has composed only the songs.
A: Because the film is being dubbed into Telugu and Tamil and Rajesh is busy with the recording of the songs in those languages. That's how Salim and Suleiman came into the picture. Moreover, they are extremely talented too. There's no question of undermining anybody's talent.
Q: Hrithik does look into your department too?
A: Yes, he does. And I appreciate that. After all, he has assisted me in more than a couple of films and he is well versed with all the departments of my film.
I don't take it as interference, as the media projects, I consider it as involvement. I have formed Film Kraft and expect my son to carry it forward. Some day, he too will take over the mantle as a director. And I would be a proud father.
Q: Would you be making a sequel to "Krrish"?
A: There is certainly a scope for a sequel to "Krrish".
Q: It is said that "Krrish" is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2006.
A: I don't know whether it is the most eagerly awaited film of the year. But for me, it is the most important, at the moment.
Q: You have made films with diverse themes over the years. Would you say "Krrish" is your best yet?
A: May be not the best yet. But yes, the biggest yet, in terms of volume and size.
Hrithik Roshan
