David Moyes is convinced that Everton are very close to breaking into the top four in the Premier League.
The Toffees have been in position to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for much of the season, but Liverpool look set to pip them after a late surge.
Everton have suffered a slight dip in the last few weeks but Moyes believes there has been little to choose between his side and Liverpool.
Asked how close Everton were to the top four, Moyes told Sky Sports News: "I think for about eight months out of the 10 we've been very close.
"We had a (bad) month at the start of the season and we've had a month at this present time, but in the main we have competed very well."
Hopeful
Everton still have an outside chance of catching Liverpool as they are at home for three of their last four games.
First up is Chelsea on Thursday and Moyes is confident that Everton can claim a good result.
He said: "I'm always positive. We have three out of four games at home so hopefully we can use that to our advantage."
Moyes admits that a move to a new stadium, due to happen in 2010, will help Everton compete financially with the top clubs.
"I think it is important that Everton get a new stadium or a redeveloped stadium," he added.
"We certainly need something so we can continue the progress."
