Werder Bremen put themselves in control of their UEFA Cup last-32 tie with a convincing home victory against Braga in the first leg.
Naldo opened the scoring for the Germans in the fifth minute and Daniel Jensen made it 2-0 in the 27th.
Bremen keeper Tim Wiese was made to earn his clean sheet, fending away two Braga penalties in the first 36 minutes before Hugo Almeida converted a spot-kick four minutes into injury time at the end of the game.
Bremen grabbed the lead after just four minutes as Naldo struck home from 28 yards into the back of the net off the right post.
Braga were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute as Clemens Fritz was adjudged to have felled Roland Linz in the area.
Linz took the kick himself but could not beat Wiese, who dived to his right and blocked the shot with an outstretched left arm.
Bremen pushed forward and Per Mertesacker again was unlucky, striking his header against the left upright from eight yards in the 16th minute.
But Jensen who doubled the advantage in the 27th for Bremen.
Almeida passed into the box and Fritz deflected it towards the Dane, who had plenty of space and time to beat Paulo Santos in the right corner from 14 yards.
Wiese then gave away a second penalty in the 35th minute for bringing down Matheus in the box but the custodian dived to his left and batted away Jorginho's low strike.
Werder pushed forward in the second half and were rewarded when Braga defender Joao Pereira was ruled to have handled Mesut Ozli's free-kick deep into injury time and Almeida stepped up and converted into the right corner.
