Rafael misses Wembley trip

[quote]Rafael will miss Sunday's Carling Cup final and a further month of action, having suffered a fractured ankle.

The 18-year-old, who has been a revelation in his first season at Old Trafford, sustained the injury in last weekend's victory over Blackburn, and Sir Alex Ferguson admits it is a heartbreaking setback for the Brazilian.

"Rafael is out for a month with a slight hairline fracture of his ankle," he told his pre-match press conference. 揑t抯 a blow for the kid because he抯 been playing in all the games and he抯 done so well. He deserves to be in the final.

ZT14 maybe terlalu awal sgt kot utk big stage game camni..

last time die msk as sub still finding a rhytm suit to Man Utd stail.. just give a little big time utk die settle down dulu..

gibbo jelah tok alex dah kopem yg lain berebut2 lah yer kalo nak medal miki cup nie...

CR7 wa rase rilek dulu bg panas2 bangku kasi welbek, nani main winger.. possebon pon orait gak tp sbb perlu some inspired so scholes leh handle along with gibbo..

so be carefull with modric the key playmaker diorg..

keeper aku x sure yg mane diorg pakai - gomes @ cudicini then defender woodgate doubtful but will also travel to webley..

attcking: defoe injed abes musim tp dgn ade keane maybe we need to alert the another dimension of their attacking..

Fergie to drop Berbatov for final

Sir Alex Ferguson has denied Dimitar Berbatov a chance to play against his former club Tottenham in the Carling Cup final.

The Bulgarian was in the Tottenham squad that won the League Cup last season and scored a penalty as Spurs came from behind to beat Chelsea.

ccording to reports in England, the united manager will also drop goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. Other than the two, Ferguson will still have a strong line-up to choose from.

Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck will also be given a chance to start at Wembley as the pair have shown plenty of promise for the Old Trafford outfit.

Kids merit cup final chance
Sir Alex Ferguson is committed to fielding some of his younger players in Sunday's Carling Cup final, partly to protect United's priorities but also as a reward for his latest fledglings.

Darron Gibson and Danny Welbeck are both primed to start, Ben Foster is in contention to play in goal and Jonny Evans could be at the heart of defence if he's passed fit after feeling his ankle problem against Inter. There could also be places in the eighteen for the likes of Rodrigo Possebon and Fabio, whose brother Rafael only misses out due to injury.

"We know what our priorities are and they'll be reflected in my final team because we抳e got a game against Newcastle on Wednesday," said Sir Alex at his press conference.

"The priorities will always be the Premier League and the Champions League. Similarly for Harry Redknapp, the clear priority in his mind is survival in the Premier League. That was reflected in his team last night (when Spurs lost in the UEFA Cup to Shakhtar Donetsk).

"The Tottenham goalkeeper (Gomes) from last night will play again on Sunday but none of the ten outfield players will play. It's all to do with how Harry manages the next six or seven days - he抯 got Middlesbrough on Wednesday after our game on Sunday.

"(That said) our younger players deserve to be there for their contributions this season. It抯 a terrific moment for any young player to play at Wembley. Some players can go through a lifetime and not play there. But some of our players will get that opportunity at a young age on Sunday and they抣l enjoy it." Sir Alex is starting to enjoy the 'new' Wembley himself, following three visits for the 2007 FA Cup final and the Community Shields of that year and 2008.

"I was disappointed in the atmosphere when we first went there," he admitted on Friday.

"But after going back there two or three times, I抳e become more used to it.I think it was a matter of familiarising myself with the new Wembley, like the different dressing rooms and the fact the Twin Towers and the long walk out from behind the goal are no longer there.

"I still think it抯 a terrific stadium, no question. It抯 not the same as the original Wembley but time moves on. They had to rebuild it, it cost an awful lot of money and they needed a good end-product. I think they抳e got that."

wembley XI wallpaper..kewl !

our Wembley XI: The Results

We've been asking you all week to vote for your United XI to play at Wembley in Sunday's Carling Cup final and the results are in.

Ben  Foster was the clear winner over Tomasz Kuszczak and Ben Amos in the goalkeeping stakes, receiving 81 per cent of the votes.

In front of him, ManUtd.com readers opted for Rafael at right-back, but unfortunately Sir Alex Ferguson revealed on Friday that the Brazilian will be out for four weeks with an ankle injury.

Rafael and Patrice Evra were the outright winners of our full-backs poll; between them in the centre are Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans whose partnership scooped 74 per cent of the votes.

With Darron Gibson a confirmed starter by Sir Alex, you opted for Paul Scholes as his midfield partner. However, the 34-year-old was just nine votes ahead of Anderson who made a successful return to action for the Reserves on Thursday night.

Ji-sung Park and Cristiano Ronaldo have been chosen to play on the flanks, while the winners of the strikers' poll were Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, who together received 56 per cent of the votes.

However, it appears likely that Sir Alex will play just one of the pair after revealing that Danny Welbeck will start up front at Wembley.

Regular first-team starters Edwin van der Sar, Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov were all omitted from the poll shortlists, reflecting their absence from every Carling Cup final squad this season.
