How Rekha-Nana sparred in Yatra
Bipin Kumar Bohra抯 Yatra has been a wonderful experience for the production house, director Gautam Ghosh, and music director, Khayyam.
But some of the film抯 memorable moments came when the two powerhouse performers of the silver screen, Rekha and Nana Patekar, had some fiery moments off screen |

Aishwarya finds a friend in Maddy's baby?
A li'l birdie tells us that Madhavan's son Vedant just doesn't seem to get enough of Aishwarya Rai. Recently on the sets of GURU, where Maddy's family accompanied him, so awestruck was baby Maddy (Vedant) with Ash that he just couldn't keep his eyes off her. Well obviously, since they share something very unusual in common? Confused, aren't you? We are talking about the colour of their eyes, the 'blue eyes' that the two share.
So you see guys, Ash's fanfare is not just restricted to the young and old but toddlers as well. This is the magic of Aishwarya Rai!

Ajay Devgan's Golmaal
Ajay Devgan literally made his entry into Bollywood like this! His debut film, Phool Aur Kaante (1991), saw him ride two bikes in his first shot.
Now, the actor will do an encore in Rohit Shetty's Golmaal.
Interestingly, Shetty - who made his directorial debut with Zameen, which also starred Devgan -- was assisting director Kuku Kohli in Phool Aur Kaante.
Golmaal, which will have music by Vishal-Shekhar, also features Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Rimii Sen, Sushmita Mukherjee and Paresh Rawal.

Amitabh Bachchan plays lawyer after 30 years
Indian leading man Amitabh Bachchan has worn many a cap in his 30 years as a movie star -- he's played cops, gangsters and plain-old ordinary workers.
But his latest film will be the first time he's taken on the character that's long been a standard in films around the world _ a lawyer.
Bachchan, among the most popular stars in India, plays a blind lawyer in the soon to be released movie ``Zamaanat,'' or ``Bail,'' newspapers reported Monday.
Bachchan told the Hindustan Times newspaper in an interview that he played a blind lawyer who helps a rich boy-poor girl come together. Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi also stars in the movie.
``It is something different for me because I have never played a lawyer in my entire career,'' Bachchan, who was acted in more than 150 films, was quoted as saying in the Mumbai Mirror newspaper.
The 63-year-old actor underwent surgery for an intestinal ailment in November and returned to work in March. He says his movie projects were initially delayed but work was on track now.

I cannot connect with SRK
Ram Gopal Varma talks about why he aborted Time Machine in favour of his Bachchan-starrer Sholay
Is Time Machine with Shah Rukh Khan scrapped?
With me as a director, it's scrapped.
Was it a flash decision?
It wasn't an overnight decision. I pondered about it and finally saw no reason to go ahead with the Shah Rukh Khan project. His youthful and exuberant image just didn't go with the dark brooding intensity of the cinema that I believe in. I felt the kind of cinema I make is incompatible with Shah Rukh's image. So I decided to put Time Machine aside to do a project I was far more excited in.
It must have taken some deliberation?
I wasn't comfortable with the idea of directing Shah Rukh. I just love larger-than-life characters and issues. I wasn't comfortable cutting my capabilities down to the size that audiences would expect if Shah Rukh is in a picture. To put eight to nine months of my time and a sizeable budget in a project where my heart wasn't in, seemed senseless. Every time I thought about Time Machine and Sholay, I was drawn to the latter. I've never followed the star system in my career. Nor have I ever made a film to accommodate the image of a superstar.
So were you tempted to work with SRK because of his star status?
I'm very fond of Shah Rukh. As a person I respect him tremendously. But I feel I'm incapable of doing justice to his image. I remember Karan Johar telling me that Kabhi Kabhie was his favourite Amitabh Bachchan film. That's the only film of Mr Bachchan that I hated. There's a tremendous difference of sensibility in the cinema that Shah Rukh generally does and I make. I know he has a staggering fan-following among children and women who love those kinds of sugary romances. I would be a total mismatch with Shah Rukh.
Would you have felt compromised?
Not compromised, confused. It wouldn't have come from the heart. Considering the economics involved, Time Machine seemed more like a commercial proposal than something I believed in. Whatever I've made so far good, bad or ugly |

Marriage is on the cards: Saif
Saif Ali Khan, who is staying in a rented place with girlfriend Rosa, says his world tour has got him the funds to buy a new house in the suburbs of Mumbai.
"It was organised by Anu Malik's brother Abu Malik with Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen and me. It took us through April and May... I wanted it to be really cool. We went all over the US and parts of the UK. That tour got me the funds to buy a new place," said Saif, who left for the concert right after the completion of Vishal Bhardwaj's Omkara.
"Right now Rosa and I are staying at a rented place. We have sort of zeroed in on a place in Juhu that we want to buy," Saif said.
Marriage to Rosa is definitely on the cards, says Saif
"I should think so... yes. I'd like that. I wouldn't like to say when. You'll be one of the first to know. I got into this relationship with that end (marriage) in mind. It's never been a casual, let's-spend-some-time-together kind of bonding.
"I think some relationships are permanent from the start. A lady had once said to me that whatever relationships I have are meant to culminate in marriage."
So is Saif incapable of frivolous relationships?
"I'm sure I am. But I don't want it right now. Frivolities aren't a part of my life today. I think marrying Rosa is the right thing to do in every way.
"She has made some pretty severe changes in her life... like changing her location and the entire environment around her just to be with me. I think it is a huge sacrifice. And it needs to be respected."
Saif, who has very few films in his kitty, is very keen to take up new projects.
"Right now after Vishal's Omkara I only have Siddharth Anand's next. He's been busy writing, so I only have a rough idea of what it is all about. Then Abbas-Mastan's next and also UTV who are keen to start something new.
"You know, after Rang De Basanti, where I really enjoyed the first half, it's time to do some really different work. I remember speaking to Rakeysh (Omprakash) Mehra once for something else that didn't grab me."
What about younger sister Soha?
"Soha is good in Rang De Basanti. She needs to be her own person. But sometimes I get the feeling she feels she has to act a certain way to qualify as a typical heroine. She looks uncomfortable doing that. When she acts calmly and does her delivery and accent her own way, she comes across as a natural performer. She can't fake it."
Soha seeks his advice. "But only in an indirect way. Perhaps, I should sit down with her and take more interest in her work. But yeah, I need the time to do so."
Saif feels his life is coming together this year.
"I feel much calmer. What's real is real. No duality and lies in my life. I am more in charge of my life and environment."
The new power-packed confident Saif is a change from the yes-no-maybe Saif one used to know.
"Well...maybe yes, no maybe!" he chuckled.

Ajay Devgan hails Helios!
Actor Ajay Devgan is unconventional in many ways, both for his looks and acting. And those who know him well know that his intense looks can be quite deceptive, because Ajay besides being a good actor is also a quite a prankster.
揗ore than his pranks what everyone loves is his non-starry attitude; he抯 a real down to earth hassle free guy, |

Preity: 揑 am a cold woman厰
The effervescent Preity Zinta is set to surprise fans with her cold woman act in Karan Johar's "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" (KANK). "I never like myself on screen. But I must say KANK has changed my look and my personality completely. I play this cold woman, which wasn't easy for a warm person like me to do. I have just a few expressions to give away.
And I think I have done them well," Preity told IANS in an interview. She seems seriously possessed by Johar's passion. "I saw bits of the film recently at Karan's urging.
What a film Karan has made! KANK is unlike anything we have seen before and certainly unlike anything I have done. "Everyone is beyond outstanding. Mr. Bachchan (Amitabh) and Shah Rukh (Khan) need no endorsement from poor me.
Rani (Mukerji) is a rock star. But Abhishek (Bachchan) is going to shock you. His expressions, his interpretation of his character have to be seen to be believed. I truly believe Abhishek is the star of tomorrow."
Preity is now fed up of outdoor shoots and wants to spend some quality time at home. "Please find me a producer who makes a complete film in India. I am shooting abroad all the time!"
She was recently in Bangkok shooting a shampoo advertisement. Before that she completed a world tour with one of her favourite co-stars, Saif Ali Khan. She then rushed to Mumbai and after that flew to Cannes with buddy Johar.
"I was excited about Cannes because I was with one of my most entertaining friends who by the way knows French better than the French, so I didn't fear misinterpretation.
"I caught 'The Da Vinci Code' there. But Karan and I were looking mainly at projecting our film 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'." Once again she is going abroad to shoot Shaad Ali's "Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom" with Abhishek.
"Again to be shot abroad. Groan groan," she mock-protests. "We start the film in August and wrap it up by October. I guess it'd be released early next year. So I have three releases KANK, Shirish Kunder's 'Jaan-e-Man' and then 'Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom' in the next six months.
"Wow! And to think that I had only one release - 'Salaam Namaste' - since 'Veer-Zaara'. That's because I completely withdrew, stopped signing films and began to look at my life in a different way after the tsunami.
"Not many people know this. But I nearly lost my life in the tsunami. Some of my close friends lost their lives. For almost eight months, I stopped working. Hence the long gap between 'Veer-Zaara' and 'Salaam Namaste'.
Her brush with death forced her to re-evaluate her priorities. "Tsunami made me question my own life and priorities. I decided if I can't be happy now I can never be happy.
Not that I was ever unhappy. But the tsunami made me value what I have. I wrote down all the things that I had in life to be grateful about. And it was quite a long list!
"Today I have a rocking career, my mom is rocking too and my personal life couldn't get any better, touch wood. I can shop till I drop and I can visit any part of the world to work or to holiday.
"Earlier there would be a problem with Kareena (Kapoor) or whoever. I find all that totally unnecessary now. Now I like all my co-stars." She lights up at the thought of working with Bobby Deol and Abhishek in "Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom".
"That one is going to be an Aquarian special. All three of us are Aquarians. So it will be like three like-minded actors working together on a fun project. "And what fun to work with two of my favourite co-stars. Though Bobby and I have done only one film, 'Soldier', together, we are truly fond of each other.
He calls me Pritam Singh. As for Abhishek, he is one of the most cultured and funniest persons I have met. So yeah, we are going to have a ball." More joy...Preity attended the Paris premiere of "Veer-Zaara" in the first week of May.
"I flew down to Paris from my concert in Dallas for just one day to be there. And thank god! I was there with Shah Rukh Khan, Rani and Yash (Chopra) uncle.
Over 15,000 people watched the film in Paris, and we aren't talking about Indians and Asians. There were the French and other foreigners. And the way they responded to 'Veer-Zaara', it just made me think...
"Hindi cinema is becoming really hot in Europe. Two years since its release, and suddenly I was reminded in Paris of how important 'Veer-Zaara' is. Amazing!"
She feels Johar's "Kabha Alvida Naa Kehna" and Kunder's "Jaan-e-Man" will take her career further. "What's really exciting is that I get to play totally antithetical characters in these two films. So, this year my two releases are going to show what I can do as an actor."
Preity has never felt better. "The spoilsports can say whatever they want about my life and career. I couldn't have hoped for more. After 'Jhoom Baraabar...' I am looking at three other scripts. I'll choose one of them."
As for marriage..."that topic isn't on my mind. Every time I am asked about my marriage I ask the journalist, why such a stale question. The way the media is interested in my marriage they should get together to fund my wedding."

Emphasis is more on character roles in films: Dia Mirza
Bollywood actor Dia Mirza, who is the latest heroine to join the 'item girl' bandwagon in the forthcoming film 'Phir Hera Pheri,' says playing lead roles is no longer important.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Dia said, "It is no longer important to do hero-heroine roles as the emphasis today is more on strong characters".
She elaborates: "The emphasis is more on character and I am excited to be a part of this kind of cinema. For example if a star has ample reels to himself he can prove his/her mettle. The real challenge comes when the star has to prove himself by sharing the cinema space with his co-stars. That is why 慞arineeta |

'All rumours about Shilpa are false'
Shilpa Shetty's spokesperson Dale Bhagwagar has dismissed rumours of the actress being part of the international film 'Babel' opposite Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt and actress Cate Blanchett (of Shekhar Kapur's 'Elizabeth' fame).
"Shilpa has not signed any international film as yet. Soon after returning from her vacation in New York, she got busy at Mehboob Studio in Mumbai, shooting a song for Anil Sharma's 'Apne' (where she is opposite Sunny Deol); while her nationwide 'Romanov' ad campaign will start anytime now," the spokesperson informed.
The rumour about 'Babel' (filmed by the Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu) began, as the reputed international website imdb.com (International Movie Data Base) incorrectly listed Shilpa's name in the cast of the venture.
A number of other websites also indicated that Shilpa played the role of an Indian girl Sameera Sehgal.
Denying knowledge of who might have been behind this mischief, Bhagwagar added that he has written to imdb.com to rectify the information.
