Vivek continues in 'Home Delivery'
Vivek Oberoi will act in Sujoy Ghosh's 'Home Delivery' opposite Mahima Chaudhary despite contrary reports in a section of the press. In fact, Sujoy Ghosh is very pleased with Vivek's work, and has announced that he would sign Vivek in his next too. This has blasted the myth that Vivek's career is on the decline since his announcement of marrying with Aishwarya Rai. Vivek's announcement had upset Aish to the extent that she declined to act opposite Vivek in Indra Kumar's movie.

NO PAISA VASOOL FROM MANISHA'S DEBUT
After heroes like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgan turned producers, it is the turn of heroines to command the happenings on the sets. Though Ravina Tandon and Juhi Chawla have done it much before, Manisha Koirala follows the path now in her 'Paisa Vasool' , meaning the value for money. The film publicized as a comic thriller has Sushmita Sen and Manisha Koirala herself, both playing lead players and without any crowd-pulling hero. The director is new and expectations are high, but neither the film could match the market demand nor did it create any novelty for viewers to sit quietly in the theatres and take note of the happenings on the screen. A comic thriller is not a new genre to Hindi Cinema; it was experimented well back in the Pran and Ashok Kumar films like 'Victoria No. 203' (long back though) and David Dhawan films like 'Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan' in the recent past. Both these films are good examples as to how a comic thriller should proceed to sustain viewers' interest for the three-hour-long movie. 'Paisa Vasool' is no way near to these master flicks; instead it turns out to be a half-baked film with weak screenplay and the jarry direction. Debutant director Srinivas Bhashyam has stolen the basic idea for his film from Mel Smith's 'High Heels and Low Lifes' but couldn't give it the needed punch and the Indian feel. Not only he fails in the film, but also does so for the leading lady Manisha Koirala, who looks fat and ugly, and hums too much.
As there is no hero to carry on with the happenings of the story, Manisha Koirala with her close buddy Sushmita Sen plays the two heroes. They are single workingwomen with a shady past and try hard to make their future brighter in the tinsel town. Manisha Koirala plays Maria Rosario. She is a married lady who has run away from a small town out of the clutches of her drunkard husband. Her husband who is also a cop by profession doesn't like her. On the other hand, Maria wants to live her life with maza and masti. She lands in Mumbai and works in a bakery whose owner dies after transferring the documents of the bakery and his bungalow in Maria's name. Maria has an opponent in the form of the bakery owner's son who wants to throw Maria out of the bungalow and sell the property to a builder so that he could meet out the expenses of his lecherous life.
Maria meets Baby (Sushmita Sen) outside a disco. Baby is a struggler in film industry and has come from Delhi to make it big one day. But thanks to her height she is thrown out of most of the films because she cannot match today's short heroes. She works in music videos to meet her daily expenses. After meeting Maria, Baby decides to live with her. They come to know about a robbery by chance and then plan to blackmail the robbers. Both of them call themselves underworld goons to do make a fortune, but the circumstances make them go back; as their plan progresses people around them start getting killed by robbers. After a great hide and seek, Baby and Maria decide to hit back and deliver a final punch.
As mentioned earlier the basic idea of the film 'Paisa Vasool' isn't new, as it has been attempted before. The film could have been a better one, had the director and scriptwriters (Bhashyam shares credit for this with Anurag Kashyap) taken care of the pace of the film, an important aspect for comic thrillers. The screenplay is very loose and lacks the quality to generate any kind of curiosity among viewers. In fact, in most of the scenes people come to know of the result well in advance. If the pace of the film mars the impact then unfolding of the story is worse than that. Bhashyam wastes a good amount of time in the beginning in establishing the cause of the film and when he manages to set the story on track, he proceeds with the happenings at a very slow pace. Bhashyam is not only not a good storyteller but also an incompetent technician.
He does not know how to jump from one plot point to another. He uses the same soundtrack and same long shot to move from one scene to another time and again. Though the film has a good cinematographer in Nirav Shah, much more was expected from Shirish Kunder at the editing table. At least, he would have chopped half of the film. But, then there would have been the problem about the short length of the film. Dialogues by Kashyap and Bhashyam do not have the required impact and if Kashyap thinks that by using filthy language he can create the ambience for the underworld people (he started this trend with 'Satya' though), then he is in for a risk to his career. Bhashyam also triples as a choreographer with Umesh Jadhav, but there too he fails to deliver.
As leading ladies -- Manisha and Sushmita -- have tried to make things look funny, except one or two scenes they fail to tickle the audience. Manisha looks old with a swollen face and hanging beauties. She doesn't fit in for the comedy. On the other hand, Sushmita plays better and fulfills the requirements her role. Makrand Deshpande and Tinu Anand look better than Vivek Chaudhary as Keema is the best in a short role. Rakhi Sawant as a sexy doll irritates. Her skin show does not have any sensual impact on viewers. Music by new comers -- Bapi and Tutul -- is below average as are the lyrics by Sandeep Nath. On the whole, the film doesn't have a bright future at the box office and will earn heavy losses to its distributors instead of their expectations of Paisa Vasool (value for money) from the film.

POOJA: BHATTS ARE NO TRENDSETTERS
Pooja Bhatt, the main and strong pillar of the Bhatt camp, is once again ready to set a new trend in Bollywood. Pooja is one who wooed the Indian audience with her performance on the screen in 'Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin', Sadak', 'Tamanna' and many more, also gave so many hits behind the camera like 'Sur', 'Paap', 'Jism', 'Jakham', 'Murder', and now 'Rog'. We caught Pooja Bhatt in New Delhi today on the eve of the release of her 'Rog' with the star cast.
Your earlier two films 'Paap' and 'Rog' were premiered in Pakistan. What are your comments?
Yes, that was great moment in my life. 'Paap' is the first Bollywood film whose premiere was done in Pakistan, and now its 'Rog' that was also premiered there. That is why my name was recorded in Limca Book of Records for these achievements. The people of Pakistan are very nice and love Hindi movies.
What do you say about the Bhatts setting the present trend of skin shows in Bollywood films?
You see the Bhatt camp or I never believe in any trend. We work what we like and think about what people will like. For example, we made 'Tamanna' for which I got National Award. No body has copied it. Then we made 'Paap', 'Jism' and 'Murder'. Other filmmakers copied them and their movies too fared well. Then how do you say that Bhatts are known as trendsetters. If people like our idea, that doesn't mean that we are the trendsetters in Bollywood.
In 'Jism' you had chosen Bipasha Basu and then in 'Murder' you took Mallika Sherawat, but now in 'Rog' you have chosen a South African model Elan Hamann. Do you think that India doesn't have any beautiful girl?
No, it is not like that. If you remember when I signed singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for my movie 'Man Ki Lagan', the people asked the same thing that why I had taken Rahat. Does India have no singer? At that time too I had stated that India has singers but not like Rahat Fateh Ali. Now the same thing applies in the case of 'Rog'. India does have beauties but India doesn't have model like Elan Hamann.
You have taken Irfaan Khan in a romantic lead role. Do you think the audience will like him?
Yes, I am very much sure that the audience will definitely like Irfaan in a romantic role. Irfaan will get a lot of romantic roles after 'Rog'. In other words, after this movie Irfaan will be known as a romantic actor.
You have worked in front of the camera and also behind the camera. Which job satisfies you more?
I am very much satisfied with my job of working behind the camera and love doing it. As a producer you have to work hard and concentrate on so many things like you have to choose star cast; you have to arrange finance and so many other things. So, you have many responsibilities on your head.
Would you want to work in front of the camera now?
Yes, I will definitely work in front of the camera when I will get a good role. I started my career at the age of seventeen and now I am thirty-two. So, I want to do some- thing different.
Does Papa Mahesh Bhatt have some thing for you?
I am not sure. I will work with anybody who has good role for me, whether it is Papa Mahesh Bhatt or somebody else.
What is your future plans?
Right now I have nothing on hand. But I will definitely give three or four movies by the end of this year.

KAMAL HASSAN: I AM BOLLYWOOD'S GUEST
Kamal Hassan is an actor as well as producer who has been shuttling between Bollywood and the Southern film world. He would soon be seen in his latest 'Mumbai Express'. He has warned the audience that if anyone has undergone an appendicitis operation he may better avoid watching it otherwise he or she might get the stitches opened. We met the actor recently and talked to him about 'Mumbai Express'.
What is 'Mumbai Express' all about?
This is the story of a young man named Avinash who lives alone in Mumbai. He has no aim and wanders from one place to another. The movie has nothing to do with any train or railway station as the name indicates.
Why did you title it 'Mumbai Express'?
This is because Avinash's friends call him by this name. He rides on a motorbike in the well of death. He rides very fast. So, he is called 'Mumbai Express'.
Is the movie based on a circus?
Not at all. One has to do something to earn his livelihood. So, Avinash rides a motorbike in the well of death.
What's the story of the movie?
I won't tell you the story. You please watch it on the screen. However, I may briefly tell you that this is a comedy of error type. I want to entertain the viewers. I believe that one can give a message through entertainment only. So, it's a comedy. But I have not forcibly put comedy in it. It's natural. Many things happen in one's life that make others laugh. However, these things are serious for the one who passes through them. I shall therefore advise that those who have had appendicitis operation better avoid it. I am dead sure that their stitches might loosen, as it is full of laughter.
You are a good actor, why then use gimmicks?
I am a good actor. So, I use gimmicks. One couldn't go to his viewers every time with a new face. The viewers have high expectation from an actor. They want to watch their actor differently. I do not consider myself a star. I am an actor only. So I want to appear on screen as an actor. I make money. Hence I play gimmicks.
Is the movie made in Hindi only?
No, it's being made in Hindi as well as Tamil.
Why didn't you succeed in Bollywood?
Success or failure is insignificant for me. Since films are my life, I shall continue doing them. I have acted in many Bollywood films. I have even produced some.
Why do you go to Bollywood too often?
I believe that Bollywood respects its guests. I have experienced it too. So, I go to Bollywood like a guest, and it gives me respect.
Why did you replace Tabu with Manisha Koirala in this movie?
First, I talked to Tabu and she agreed. But she declined later. Then I asked Bipasha Basu, but it didn't click. When I asked Manisha, she accepted instantaneously. Om Puri and Vijayraj are also there. I am grateful to Manisha. She is a good friend. That's why she agreed at the last moment.
You are a good actor, writer, director and producer, which one you like the most?
First, I am an actor, then a writer, later a producer and last of all a director. Since films are my life, so anything connected with them interests me.
You have played all types of roles. What would you do now?
I have many things to do. I want to direct movies. Still, there remain many more things to do.
What's your comment on Mumbai?
I like Mumbai. I have shot 'Mumbai Express' in a jhuggi of Santa Cruz in Mumbai. I wish to salute Mumbaikars for their way of life. Mumbai is a city that fulfils one's dream. I have tried to show this in 'Mumbai Express'.
When do you intend to release 'Mumbai Express'?
I began shooting it in November, and have completed it too. We wish to release it very soon, both in Hindi and Tamil.
What next?
I am working on a script. I shall direct it. However, I shall talk about it later. First, watch 'Mumbai Express'.

'INSAAN', 'AILAAN' FAIL TO SUBDUE LARA DUTTA
Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta who began her filmi career with 'Andaaz' and then never saw back, won the hearts of her audience in director Raj Kumar Santoshi's 'Khakee' by doing an item number 'Aisa Jadoo Dala'. Then followed her 'Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost', 'Masti' and 'Bardaast', where she proved her acting skill. However, her recently released 'Inssan' and 'Ailaan' didn't fare too well at the window. Despite this she has been able to maintain her status in Bollywood. We met her at the launch of the music of 'Zurm', and found her very excited. We discussed with her about her journey in films so far and her future plan.
Where do you find yourself in the film industry at present?
I don't believe in the name game. I have not been in this industry for a long time. I have just begun my career. So, I want to concentrate on doing good acting. I am not interested in comparing myself with any one. If I do so, I may go astray.
Are you satisfied with your career graph?
I am very happy that the audience has reacted favorably to my acting. I hope that I shall be able to keep it up.
What's your role in 'Zurm'?
I am playing the role of Sanjana in this movie. Bobby Deol plays Avinash, and is so much charmed with Sanjana's beauty that he marries her. However, he doubts his wife's faithfulness and commits a crime. Hence 'Zurm' is the story of a human being living in different circumstances.
What's your experience of working with Bobby Deol since you have acted with him earlier too?
Yes, I have acted along with Bobby in 'Bardaasht' too. Working with Bobby is a different kind of experience. We had a very good time with each other during the shoot of this movie.
What about working in a Hollywood film?
Yes, I agreed to work in Hollywood's 'Matrix', but I am still busy in Bollywood. So, I haven't yet concentrated on it. Anyway, you would know if there were anything new.
You are acting in Boney Kapoor's ' No Entry'. Is it similar to 'Masti'?
There is nothing common in the two films. Yes, there is one thing common, though, that both the films have three heroes each. However, this doesn't mean that the subject of both films is the same.
What are your other films?
I am working in Karan Johar's 'Kaal' with John Abraham and in Apurb Lakhia's 'Just Punjabi'. Besides, I am also acting in Praksh Jha's 'Rajniti' and also in Feroz Nadiadwala's film.
What type of role you prefer?
I have played different roles in my different films. I can do both small as well as big role, if I like it. If I get a chance, I can do a negative role too.
What type of lifestyle you like?
I am grateful for whatever I have got today. I like public life. I like to be a part of the screen. I like to watch my promos. I am aware of my responsibility too.
Are you attached to music?
I love music. I begin my day with music. My parents introduced music to me. I like old songs, though.

SANJAY CAN DO A COMEDY AS A SOLO HERO
When Sanjay Dutt arrived on the scene some two decades back, people noticed passion and rage in his eyes. He was labeled as an angry young boy; he did live to this image given to him by critics and his fans. While other actors who rose along with him are struggling with their images at the box-office, Sanjay has already marched half his way towards his second innings. He played foster father to Hrithik Roshan in 'Mission Kashmir'. Now he plays reel son to his real father on screen in 'Munnabhai MBBS'. In this film, Sanjay is compensating the losses made in 'Mission Kashmir' by the producers, Vir Chopra and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. This movie is an extension of Sanjay's comedy career that he sat about way back with David Dhawan in films like 'Haseena Maan Jayegi', 'Chal Mere Bhai' and 'Jodi No.1'.
While David could not trust him as a solo hero even in the last film they made together 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah', here comes a debutant Raju Hirani who has full faith in his capabilities. 'Munnabhai MBBS' is a story of trust and faith that Vidhu Vinod Chopra showed in Sanjay's acting despite major debacle of 'Mission Kashmir'. It is also a story of faith that Vidhu Vinod Chopra showed in his assistant Raju Hirani while giving him a chance to go ahead with this project from the very first day. Many may not remember now but the role that has been carried out by Sanjay Dutt in this film was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan, but after seeing Sanjay in the role 'Munnabhai MBBS', many may doubt if Shah Rukh could have done this role with the same ease.
The whole film revolves around Munnabhai (Sanjay Dutt) who is MBBS by default. In fact Munna Bhai has nothing to do with white apron, diagnosis, medical prescription and hospital because he is not a doctor. He is a Bindas man living in Mumbai with his own lucky and happy gang. They do each and every thing that could earn them bread for two times and sometimes a girl too for some masti. But this is not at all that Munna has said to his parents back home in village. His father Hari Prasad Sharma (Sunil Dutt) has an illusion that his son is a famous doctor. Every time Hari Prasad visits Mumbai, Munna runs to find a shelter in some hospital donning white coat and a stethoscope around his neck. As is the saying that a goat's mother cannot live happy for long so comes the day for Munna's kill too.
Sharma meets his old friend Dr. Asthana by chance. And, to Munna's bad luck Asthana has a daughter who is not only a qualified doctor but an eligible bachelor too. So the two old friends decide to convert their friendship into relationship as they think that the boy and the girl are in the same profession and will make an ideal couple. Hari Prasad comes to Mumbai to distribute sweets but this time Munna's drama goes haywire and his father comes to know the reality. Heartbroken Hari Prasad loses faith in every one. Munna decides to fulfill his father's expectations by becoming a qualified doctor. How can a street-smart guy like Munnabhai be transformed into a real doctor? How is it possible?
Raj Kumar Hirani alias Raju Hirani gets first division in his first examination. Welcome another intelligent Raj Kumar in the kingdom of fantasy, fun and frolics. Raj Kumar has shown immense maturity in handling a fragile subject like comedy. A comedy does make people laugh but it is not an easy task to make people laugh. Raju has camouflaged the characters so carefully that there is always one or the other character to giggle viewers when Munna Bhai is not around. This way he keeps the tempo of the film going. Raju takes care in not landing himself in a situation like that of his seniors -- David Dhawan and Harmesh Malhotra. 'Munnabhai MBBS' is an emotional comedy with purpose. In Bollywood, one hardly sees a comedy with some message. The message is for those who have kept cursing new breed of doctors. The film tells that they are human beings too.
Sanjay Dutt gets full marks for his portrayal as "Munnabhai M.B.BS". Though he has grown older and his age now reflects on his face, yet he manages to carry film on his shoulder. Sanju has put his heart and soul in this film and has proven that he can carry a comedy single handedly. Those who made him match timings with Salman or Govinda now better start rethinking about his potential. Second fiddle to him is Arshad Warsi who is fully devoted to his mentor's dreams. He is the new Laxman of this world if it comes to play a companion for Munna Bhai. Arshad has shown his talent earlier too but his overconfidence then took away the natural acting from him. However, this time Raju has put the regulator on his acting and the result is marvelous. Gracy Singh tries to do justice to a role, which doesn't have much significance in the plot. Jimmy Shergill is okay. Boman Irani is moving fast in his career though started late. Rohini Hattangadi supports well. It gives a great feeling to see Sanjay with his father face-to-face first time on screen. They have worked together in 'Rocky' though, but not face- to- face. Music of the film is not very upbeat but nowadays no one expects much from Anu Malik who has forgotten to compose new tunes or maybe he is finding it hard to lift foreign tunes.

ISHA KOPPIKAR ENTERS HOLLYWOOD
Before becoming the best Hindi debut actress Isha Koppikar had acted in a number of Tanil, Telugu and Kannad movies. Unfortunately, her first Hindi movie titled 'Ek Tha Dil Ek Thi Dhadkan' made under the banner of Mirza Brothers, never saw the light of the day. But her debut Hindi 'Company' directed by Ram Gopal Verma made her famous as the khallas girl in Bollywood.
Then followed her 'Girlfriend', a hat ke movie based on the bold theme of lesbianism. This brought her both bouquets as well as brickbats. However, brickbats failed to deter her from going ahead. She is rather very excited that 'Girlfriend' has brought her Hollywood flick like 'Searching For Sara'. In this movie, she plays a Rajasthani girl, and its shooting will commence from next month (February). Our team met Isha recently during her shoot of 'Haseena'.
Are you satisfied with the growth of your film career?
Yes, I am fully satisfied. I have secured a position in the industry though I have neither a godfather in Bollywood nor have come from a star family. Moreover, there is a lot of favoritism in the film industry. I have attained my present status because of sheer hard work.
Hasn't Ramu shown a favor to you?
Ramu is a different type of a director. He signs an artiste in his film if he or she fits the bill. Ramu has signed me in his next ' D'. Besides me, the other important actor is Randeep Hooda in the lead role.
What's the story about?
The story is about a common man turning a don.
What are your other movies?
Apart from this, I am acting with Tusshar in 'Kya Cool Hain Hum' and also in David Dhawan's 'Anaam'.
What are you shooting at present?
I am presently shooting in Sanjay Thakur's 'Haseena'. This is my second woman-centered movie after 'Girlfriend'. This is based on the story of a girl who aspires to achieve everything in life within seconds. Kiran Janzani of the 'Oops' and 'Stop' fame is playing opposite me.
How do your fans react to your role?
My movies have turned many viewers as my fans. They are divided though. Some of them criticized me for playing a lesbian in 'Girlfriend' and even put fire to theatre halls exhibiting my movie. But they are my fans too. They are a part of society. There are others who have lauded my bold role in it. They want me to play such roles only.
Hasn't 'Girlfriend' tarnished your image among your fans?
In fact, my lesbian role in 'Girlfriend' has got me the Hollywood flick 'Searching For Sara'. So, I am very proud of this movie.
Has the Hollywood offer brought any change in you?
After securing a foothold in Hollywood through 'Searching For Sara', I have turned a lot. This has made me commercial and responsible.
How to reach you after you get busy with the Hollywood movie?
I have a website of my own now. Anyone from anywhere in the world can access me.

MAHIMA: UPS AND DOWN ARE NORMAL IN ACTING CAREER
Mahima Choudhary has been in Bollywood for many years since her discovery by Subhash Ghai in his 'Pardesi'. Her acting talent has been widely appreciated by the audience as well as the critics. However, she has yet to attain a position in the film industry. She has undergone several ups and downs in her career. She is down but not out, she says. It's usual in the acting career to have ups and downs. I consider this as part of life." Despite this she has plenty of films with her, she adds. At present, she is shooting for 'Mr Hundred Percent-The Real Player'. We met her at the sets of this movie.
Isn't 'Mr Hundred Percent' a bold film? Are you also joining the mad race of sexy films?
I am not in race with anyone. I do believe in the limit of decency. I would never cross it and indulge in body exposure to win the audience. However, I have done glamorous roles in the past, and am not averse to doing them in future.
What's your role in this movie?
I play Simran who is the wife of Jiggalo played by Aryan Vaid. I am not aware of what my husband (Aryan) does in the darkness of night. Moreover, I have nothing to do with a sexy role.
Can you avoid doing bold scenes in a film with a bold theme?
I play the role of an ideal wife believing in the Indian traditional values. However, I face tension when I come to know that my husband indulges in sex exploitation of women at night to earn huge money. The theme is bold, but it's not sexy. My role is that of a traditional Indian woman and very impressive.
Isn't your role similar in 'Dobara'?
'The story of 'Dobara' is based on an extramarital relationship. This is the true picture of our society today. I play Anjali, the wife of Jackie Shroff, in this movie. After 14 years Anjali's husband wants to leave her for the sake of his girlfriend Reema played by Raveena Tandon. She had gone abroad. Now, she is back and meets with Jackie again (dobara). The rest is the tale of Anjali's struggle for saving her married life.
Don't these both roles match with your personal life?
Any movie's story cannot be related to the personal life of the actor. The movie's director outlines it and its characters according to his concept. The actors try to play those characters as close to their assigned roles as possible. Moreover, I am unmarried. How can the roles of married characters match with me? However, I find myself closer to the two women characters of Simran and Anjali that I play in the two movies. And these characters depict the traditional Indian women.
Don't you play a very glamorous role in Tanuja Chandra's 'Film Star?
I play the role of a girl who is lost in the world of glamour. However, her career moves down at an age of 25 years. Then she realizes the reality of the glamour world. She comes to distinguish between her real and unreal friends. The movie depicts the real struggle of a successful heroine.
What are your other forthcoming movies?
They are many. I am doing Anis Azmi's movie ' Hum Do Hamara Do' starring Govinda and Raveena; Raman Kumar- directed 'Sarhadpar' with Sanjay Dutt, Tabu and Chndrachud Singh; Neeraj Pathak-directed 'Gumnaan' with Dino Morea, besides Mahesh Manjrekar-directed 'Tere Pyaar Ki Kasam' starring Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty and Kabir Bedi and 'Zameer' directed by Kamal starring Ajay Devgan and Amisha Patel. I am also doing Sashank Ghosh's 'Aisa Bhi Hota Hai' and Baby Mukherjee's 'Sarhad'.
Why have you not been recognized in the industry despite your several successful films?
I do not agree with your comment. I have received a great honor from my fans besides the success in films. The recognition in the industry depends on your continuous success in films. So it doesn't stay forever. However, I am happy to tell you that I am presently acting in big banner films, top directors and opposite almost all top heroes of Bollywood. This is more than recognition. However, ups and downs are normal in any actor's career. This is a part of life. I work hard. I do not live either in the past or in the future. I am getting challenging roles. I am confident that my forthcoming movies would certainly take me to a position in the industry that I deserve.

SHAHID-KAREENA PAIR DOING FOUR FILMS
Shahid Kapoor who rose to stardom in Ken Ghosh's 'Ishq Vishq', however, flopped at the box office in their 'Fida' within a brief period of one and a half years. Despite this the pair of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor is busy shooting four movies at present incidentally. We met Shahid and Kareena during their shoot of 'Milenge- Milenge' in New Delhi. Believe it that Shahid signed two films with Kareena during their shoot of 'Fida'. Regarding his chemistry with Kareena, the young actor claims that Kareena is his childhood friend though slightly elder to him. So they go very well each other. Shahid is more amused than shocked following the media reports of their soon- to- be held marriage. He claimed that they are good friends but have never given a thought to the idea of a marriage.
Why did your 'Fida' flop at the box office?
The audience had many expectations from ' Fida' as they had found in 'Ishq Vishq'. But 'Fida' was quite different from 'Ishq Vishq. Moreover, the success of a movie depends on the perception of the viewers, which is beyond our control.
How is that you are doing the third movie with Ken Ghosh?
I have a good tuning with Ken. But apart from me and Kareena, Fardeen Khan is also there in the third movie. So, Ken has not only repeated me but also Fardeen.
Why has Amrita Rao of 'Ishq Vishq' not been repeated in your next movies?
This is a chance only. Incidentally, I have just signed one film of director Mahesh Manjrekar with Amrita Rao.
What's the chemistry between you and Kareena as you have been doing many films with her?
I signed two films with Kareena during our shoot of 'Fida'. You may call it a coincidence that at present I have been doing four films with Karena. Our childhood friendship can be the said to be responsible for our chemistry. Apart from the film sets where ever we meet we discuss films. Moreover, our relationship has further strengthened due to our regular meetings in shoots.
Did you ever quarrel with each other on the sets?
Kareena is senior to me. We may argue with each other, but there is no question of having a quarrel between us. We reach the sets quite early and hold discussion about scenes to be shot during the day.
What about the progress of your relations ending in a marriage? Would you react to the media report about your marriage?
Such reports do not matter to us though we feel tense for some time. We are aware though that in this glamour world we shall have to face such things. Regarding the marriage, I would like to clarify that Kareena and I are very good and special friends. However, we have not given any thought to the idea of a marriage.

Bobby Deol; My future lies in films
Bobby Deol is the younger son of yesteryears' angry young man Dharmendra and brother of muscleman Sunny Deol. He has been in films for quite some time, but still waiting for a hit. Although he has got many film offers even after the dull box office report of his earlier films like 'Barsaat', 'Bichhchhu' and 'Bardast'. Now, Bobby is banking on the release of his forthcoming movie 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyon' on December 24th. In this movie, Bobby will be seen in a double role of a father as well as a son. The movie also stars Big B. Recently; Smashits caught Bobby and inquired from him about his future projects.
What's your role in 'ATHWS'?
I am plying the role of a young boy who wants to enjoy his life with lots of masti. He doesn't know about his future plan. His grandfather (Amitabh Bachchan) makes big plans for his bright future.
What is the movie all about?
This is not a story based on a conflict between my grandfather and me. The movie has an army background. On the whole, this is a complete family entertainer.
Why did you sign this movie?
I signed this movie because of Anil Sharma and Amitabh Bachchan. I am a great fan of Bachchanji. He is my idol. I like doing film with him. He is a great artist and a very kind hearted person.
Why did your last film 'Bardasht' not fare well at the box office?
It is difficult to say that. But I know that my friends have appreciated my role in it. It's also true that the film did not do well at the ticket counter, but it has been called a complete action film. I do not bother much about the past. I try to do better in films on hand. I try to keep happy surroundings around me so that others as well as I benefit from it.
Do you worry about others' critical comments?
No, not the least. I do not care for others' remarks about my looks or my hairstyle. My hairstyle has remained the same since I joined the film industry. I am a bit shy. I feel slightly uneasy when my life book opens before the public. At present, I do care about my role and my director. If I find both all right, I sign the film.
What type of films you prefer?
I like to act in emotive movies. I also wish to act in action films. My comedy films like ' Hum To Mohabbat Karega' and 'Chor Machaye Shor' did not fare well. Perhaps these comedies were my worst films. I do not know why my role in comedies was not appreciated. I also wonder why even my action films remain unappreciated.
What are your forthcoming movies?
First is 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Wattan Saathiyon'. The second is 'Tango Charlie' with Tanisha. Third is 'Zurm' with Lara Dutta. 'Tango Charlie' has an army background, and is based on memories of an army man. 'Zurm' is what the title indicates.
Do you like to act with model-turned-actors?
I have worked with Lara in 'Bardasht' and with Priyanka in 'Kismat'. Both of them worked very well. It is wrong to say that models cannot perform well. I am not comparing the performance of both Lara and Priyanka. However, I feel more comfortable with Lara.
Have you planned your future?
I have played all types of roles. I wish to continue doing those roles in future. My future lies in movies. So, I have no other plan.

Nagma's comeback to Hindi films
Film star Nagma who has already acted in scores of films is coming back to Bollywood after a long gap. She is happy that she has been seen along with super stars in the recent release of Anil Sharma 'Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon', starring Big B, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol. Yes, she is entering active politics too by taking the cause of slum dwellers in Delhi.
What are your forthcoming movies?
After Anil Sharma's ' Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon' I shall soon resume shooting in Mathew Menon's movie. Besides, I am already acting in a Bangla film titled 'Parinam' with Sharat Kapoor as the hero though it has reached near completion. Another one is a Bhojpuri movie 'Sajna Hamar' with Bhojpuri's top hero Ravikishan. Moreover, I intend to sign more movies in the near future.
What type of roles attracts you in movies?
I want to do different types of roles so that I can bring my talent out.
How come you didn't prove a hit in Hindi films?
This is not true. My acting has been appreciated, especially in Feroz Khan and Rakesh Roshan's films. With the entry of more talented girls in Hindi movies, I shifted to the South where the payment to artists is higher, cancellations minimum, movies as per time schedule and a lot of professional satisfaction. However, I had decided to return to Hindi films after completing my assignments in the south.
Do you find any major difference in the South and Hindi movies?
Yes, there is a lot of difference. In south, films are made on time unlike in Bollywood where shooting is treated like a picnic. Films made in the south are more technical and professional.
Would you like to work in music videos?
I do not know though I shall like to work along with persons like Adnan Sami.
Have you reached your climax in movies?
I do not think I have reached climax. I want to do more and more nice films. I am not here to make a history. Despite the entry of so many talented faces, the audience always gives me a lot of love.
Are you more conscious of social responsibility?
Yes, I am conscious of my social responsibility. Even otherwise I like doing social work. My first film was based on a social cause. However, I regret that even social movies lack a message. I believe that one is successful only when one devotes seventy per cent of his life for his or her benefit, and the rest thirty per cent for the good of the humanity. One must live for others too.
Do you try to avoid glamorous scenes?
Yes, I keep a distance from such scenes.
Hollywood heroines are crazy about doing the roles of prostitutes. What's your view in the matter?
Recently, I got an offer for an interesting play. This was based on prostitution. That's a character; a film. It's a matter to think about. We should be grateful to prostitutes. Had they not been there the honor of our mothers and sisters would have been in danger. We must look at the other aspect too. So I don't think much about a role. One must do whatever one likes.
Why the standard of today's movie is falling?
This is the trend today though social movies are also made. However, filmmakers produce what the audiences demand because they do it to make money.
Why is there a lack of message in today's movies?
Nowadays, the trend among the audience has changed. Now, there is no future for meaningful films.

BIPS TO ACT 5 MORE YEARS
The sexy Bipasha Basu is busy shooting her comedy film titled 'Phir Hera Pheri'. Yes, a sequel to 'Hera Pheri'. The film has the same three characters of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty. But the girls this time are Bipasha Basu and Rimmi Sen. We caught up with Bipasha on the sets of 'Phir Hera Pheri'.
You are a pro at doing horror films. How is it like doing a comedy now?
Well, I have done only two horror films. But yes it's my first out and out comedy film. I haven't shot much yet. So it's difficult to say how it is. But I am very excited at the prospect of getting the timing right and doing a film which will keep the audiences smile all through.
You usually get paired up with actors who are either your height or shorter than you, how about now?
Fortunately, in this film Akshay and Suniel are both taller than I. And therefore I can easily wear heels. It's such a relief from wearing just flats all the time.
You are the pioneer of getting sexy roles. Do you think it's now an easy way to stardom for many new entrants?
Yes, I think so. You can expose once and for all. But maintaining the sexy image is difficult. So a lot of girls who want to enter the industry find it the easiest, but it's hard to maintain.
You started your career with being a model. What's the difference between the model Bipasha and an actress Bipasha?
Yes, there_is a world of difference. What I did earlier was earn quick buck in modeling. But now there's a lot of hard work, though gone into doing films. I have also become mature so now I think differently as to what I used to think earlier.
You said no to Rituparno Ghosh. Is it because you want to stick to commercial cinema?
No, not really. I had just gone to meet him, and the media created a huge thing. So before I could say yes or no, the rumors started. But as an actress I am open to do all sorts of cinema. Of course, commercial is priority as I stay by myself. So I need to take care of my bills and much more.
Talking about money, where and how do you invest your money?
Being an outsider i.e. from out of Bombay, I invested in a property. I have bought my own house. Now I want to buy my parents and sister a property. Having a house keeps you rooted and I was sick of living out of suitcases. Apart from this all my money goes in the bills or holidays, which are rare.
How does the year 2005 look for you?
Oh! It's looking fabulous. I'll have about four to five releases. And will sign on some new interesting projects.
You are 25 and successful. What other dreams do you need to fulfill?
There are loads of them. I want to get married in five years, have children and live a comfortable life. I see myself in the film industry only for the next five years. So these are the immediate dreams, which need to be accomplished.

KAJOL HEDGING FOR SUCCESS WITH COMMERCIALS
On a comeback trail, actor Kajol is hedging her box office success with television commercials. First off the mark was an advertisement for Whirlpool with husband Ajay Devgan. And now she's endorsing the century's best marketing line "diamonds are forever" becoming Diamond Trading Company, the marketing arm of DeBeers, Brand Ambassor for - Asmi. She'll remain the face of the diamond jewelry firm for two years. With her first comeback film set to roll by August, we caught up with Kajol to talk about the return of fiery Bengali beauty. Diamonds are certainly Kajol's best friends. And the vivacious actor is now expressing this fascination at least a year before her first comeback film hits the marquee.
As she reappears in various commercials in a fresher, more glamorous avatar, it is evident she has changed her opinion that endorsements are boring. "I wasn't averse to endorsements. It's just that I like to do things when the time is right according to me. When I was full-fledged into films, I didn't have time to do endorsements. And now I have a little time on my hands, and I have realised that ads don't take a lot of time, and that's why I am more open to them now. And thoroughly enjoying it as well." Since she is saying that diamonds are her best friends we tried to find out, what sort of jewellery is she fond of? "I love solitaires. I like designed jewellery and wouldn't mind wearing elaborate sets.
But I bought my solitaires with not my first pay check but when I had a little more money, and you'll always find me wearing them. We are inseparable," says Kajol with a sparkle in her eyes. Any more endorsements that we'll be seeing her in? "Haven't you had enough in Whirlpool and now Asmi?," she retorts. "These are the two that I am doing right now. Have got a few offers, but I am still thinking. And with my film starting in August, I better not take up a lot of them." And we hear her comeback film will be with Aamir Khan, directed by Kunal Kohli of 'Hum Tum'. "Yes that's true. I was also supposed to do Karan's film, but a long schedule in London will keep me away from my family, which I don't want right now.
And Kunal's film is what I will be shooting soon for. And I have worked with Aamir before, so it should be fun again. Can't talk more on the film yet. Let it go on floor first," says the bubbly actress. But what about other film, apart from this one? " As and when it happens you'll know. I am now open to doing some good films. Won't be taking any and every offer that comes my way." Well, for Kajol fans, it's certainly good to hear that she'll be back on the screen sometime next year. Till then we have to be satisfied with her advertisements and just hope that she signs more ads and even more films in the coming few months.

No more together in films
Well, you may have often heard a dialogue in films; both the actor and the actress repeating that they would live and die together. How far is it true in real life? Not always. Recently, actress Bipasha Basu disclosed that she wouldn't be seen on the screen with her boyfriend John Abraham. However, she clarified that both of then would live together. She says that if their pair repeats in films, the viewers get bored. "So, we have decided not to work together in films." Are the producers and the directors listening?

Kirti Reddy fails to charm audiences
Kirti Reddy, an actress from the South who began her career in Abhishek Bachchan starrer 'Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya', failed to charm the audiences in Hindi as well as southern films. After failing in Hindi films, she tried her luck in a Telugu movie titled 'Gunshot', but got disappointment only. This left her with no option but to settle down in life. However, here the luck favored him as she got married to a southern actor named Somnath.

TUSSHAR, ISHA GETTING THICKER
Tusshar Kapoor and Isha Koppikar are thicker these days than ever before. Yes, both of them are happy with their performances in their recent release "Kya Kool Hain Hum'. They seem to have developed a better chemistry during this film though they have acted together earlier in 'Krishna Cottage'. The change is visible more in Isha who used to boast that she has never had a boyfriend in her life. Now, Isha has found one, and is always busy in praising her costar more than usual. 'Kya Kool Hain Hum' has turned their relations too hot. She continues to say that Tusshar has helped her at every step.
Interestingly, Isha admits that she has a boyfriend in her life now though she doesn't want to disclose who that lucky guy is. Incidentally, the fire is on both sides. Tusshar admires Isha more than he ever talked about any costar. Their concern for each other was noticed even at the time of the release of their movie. Isn't it ILU-ILU (I love you)?

SRK's dream project
Shah Rukh Khan is dreaming of making a Hindi movie that may attract the audience the world over. He hopes that this movie will break the language barrier, and would help in emotionally uniting the people. The movie will have six songs, he has added. Shah Rukh has no plan at present to act in Hollywood since he has never got an offer. He says he may not be as good as his colleagues like Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai are as the latter have already been acting in Hollywood. However, he hopes that Bollywood movies would certainly sell well in the international market within next five to ten years.
