Ben Foster was the hero in the League Cup final, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted his team had Ben Foster to thank after winning the League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on penalties.

The United manager explained, “To be honest with you I could have done without the extra time, because we have a tough game on Wednesday [in the Premier League against Newcastle United] and I’ll need to freshen up.”

Today’s victory means United’s quest for an unprecedented quadruple remains on target and Ferguson was quick to emphasise where his focus now lay, he said, “The league is the priority and the Champions League also.”
