For me, Netflix is known for pushing boundaries. If you want something clean & safe, we always have our national TV.

I didn’t watch 365 ke hape tu - obviously ala2 50 shades of grey kan. But I do watch Cuties. Although the selection of casts are beyond questionable as well as camera work that’s focusing on the kids’ butts & thighs in their skin-tight clothes - I’ve to admit that the film is quite nuanced. It successfully portrayed what would happen should girls that age be left to their own devices in this social media era.
Most girls in that movie are without proper parental supervision. The main cast, Amy or Aminata was stuck with her identity as a Muslim immigrant as well as a girl with burgeoning sexuality. She’s also responsible to take care of her two young brothers whilst her mom is struggling to accept the fact that her husband has taken a second wife from Senegal and about to be brought to their small apartment in Paris. That movie cleverly portrayed the tension between these two; which is something rarely explored in the media. I quite like the ending; on how Amy finally found her own identity despite the challenges she faced.
I think this can be a scary movie for parents as it can function as a mirror - as what portrayed in the movie couldn’t be far from the truth for teenage girls around the world |
