Probably the imigrant Hindus here do not show much externally ....not sure what happens among themselves????:hmm:

In keeping with the subject of food, I have found out that apart from water and air, the Brahmins (in India) take the most excessive precautions over food. In the case of water, in order that it may be pure and may not  defile the person who drinks it, it should be drawn and carried by members of his own caste. It is a sin otherwise and remission is  elaborate and costly.

In some places where Brahmins and Sundras draw water from the same source, if their water-pots touch the Brahmin would immediately break his if it is made of earthenware. If it is of brass or copper, it is given a thorough scouring with sand and water.

Strict rules on abstinence are observed and are most scrupulously obeyed in the family circle. For example they are not allowed to touch meat ..anything that has had life (even fish) or germ of life (eggs). Thus vege form their principal food with a few exceptions e.g. garlic, onions, mushrooms etc..etc. Nevertheless, the lower  castes may tend to eat meat usually in  privacy.

In all fairness, the ancient Hindu law givers may have considered the Indian climate and diseases into their principles of defilement and purification.

So what is the purpose of Brahmins? Simple - Educate those who do not understand the Vedas, ...

There are opinions that the Brahmins of modern times are not in any degree more learned than their ancestors of the time of Pythagoras. Whilst other races of much lesser beginnings have emerged from the darkness of ignorance and attained the highest of civilisation and reached the utmost limits of intellectual intelligence, it is said that the Hindus have been perfectly stationary. It may be true that in certain large towns or more important temples, Brahmins do impart  theirknowledge, instructions are carried out without any definite system. It is still rare to find educated Brahmins who owe their knowledge to one of these Brahmin schools. They are in fact entirely beholden for it to the exertions of their parents and to private tuition. Thus it is that learning is almost always transmitted from family to family, generation to generation ........er, so to say, heriditary.

I recall a recent plan by the Government to increase College quotas for lower castes and other disadvantaged groups were met with protests for various reasons. I cannot help but recall Henry K Beauchamp's observation :

"To make a people happy, it is essential that they themselves should desire to be made happy..........Now the people of India, it appears to me, neither possess this desire nor are anxious to co-operate to this end..."

Yes it is true because in Hinduism, it is said that everuthing on the earth would sleep after 7pm so it is wrong to chop off or cut the tree after 7,and semambu or neem or veppilai has the highest sour taste and it has the ability to avoid the evil but it is also has a lot of disability such as the ghosts could stay inside of it,so Hindus would tie a red or yellow cloth to it so,the ghost will never able to enter tree again, thus if a Hindu bought a house he would look for the vaasthu if it is a terrace house and the farm because it is a compulsory  to Hindus to have sacred plants to be planted on housing area to ensure the goddess lakshmi would come...

lakhsmi means goddess of wealth, health and so many good things...

Actually, Hindus treats plants the same way they treat human beings.

They believe that plants go to "sleep" when the Sun goes down and they come "awake" when the Sun rises. And just as it is bad to wake a child up during the time he is asleep, it is also bad to "hurt" plants when they are sleep by plucking their leaves or cutting down a fruit.

And before you go laughing out, let me remind you that Photosynthesis process is the process where the plant takes energy of the Sun and grow, which means that they are active when the Sun is in the sky. Therefore, it is not so hard to accept the above statement through Scientific approach.

Hindus are not stupid, you know. Just that their views are so ahead of their time, many believe the Hindus are "jokers" and back watered people.
