Featured drivers

Ee Yoong Chern is another of the veterans in the Malaysia scene. He is most well-known for his super clean HKS S13. He drove in that vehicle in the last 2 rounds of FD Singapore. However, for FD Malaysia, he will switching gears to his Tyrepac Goodyear RB32.  Yoong is probaly the most cheerful dude in the series, he always seems to have a smile on his face!

The Star Drift Challenge 2009 Championship has concluded with Ivan Lau from Team Bridgestone taking the top honours with a total of 129 points. Ivan, despite being 6th in the championship after Round 2, piloted his Toyota Levin AE86 and leaped the others by coming in 1st in qualifying and winning the tandem round.


Championship point leader after Round 2, Vincent Lim from Team Maxxis, also with an Toyota Trueno AE86, has settled for a 2nd place with 123.5 points, a mere 5.5 points behind Ivan Lau. Vincent was eliminated by Ivan in the semi finals, which gives him a score of 32 championship points, something inadequate to secure the championship.

Coming in 3rd of the championship was Johan Norman from Team Goodyear with his Nissan Laurel C33, who has performed consistently throughout the season. Johan sealed the championship with 85 points. Tailing Johan closely in 4th place was Mohd Fazreen from Formula D Garage, with a total of 84.5 points in his Nissan Cefiro A31.

2008 championship winner Tengku Djan, having only one podium finish this year, took 5th place in the championship after being eliminated from the quarter finals. Tengku Djan piloted his 180SX for the full season this year as compared to last year where half of the season was completed by his trustworthy AE86.

Stargazer Scientific and Drift.com.my have been working closely since 2006 to popularize the drifting motorsport in Malaysia by organizing Star Drift Challenge, which is currently the only drift championship running in the country in 2009. In addition for its known high speed track and difficulty, the championship has proved to bring up the competitiveness of the series to a higher level, with a scoring system which requires the drifters to be consistent throughout the whole season to be able to settle for a good championship position.

Making a comeback after the mishap in Formula Drift Pro Am Singapore 2009, Ivan swept the field with 1st in qualifying scoring 99 points, winning the tandem round by fending off championship favourite Vincent Lim, and stealing away the championship from him.

Mohd Fazreen aka Along Rempit, a 'black-horse' which defeated a certain famous drifter a while back, surprises everyone again by taking the 2nd place on the podium.


Vincent 'Crazy Drifter' Lim, the favourite winner for the championship, missed it by a mere 5.5 points. Check out the new livery on his AE86.


Ariff Johanis from Team Goodyear caught Tengku Djan off-guard after a sudden death, but was later eliminated by Mohd Fazreen with a similar mistake.

Tengku Djan smoking away in his 180SX as usual and got a 98 point run for qualifying, but luck wasn't on his side this season for a good championship finish.


Another heavy smoker, Hanizam Hamzah aka Louyai remains consistent in the qualifying round, giving him a good 3rd position with 97 points. However, he too joined Ariff to became one of Along Rempit's victim.


Johan Norman secured 3rd championship placing with his consistent performance throughout the season. He got eliminated by Ivan Lau after a close fight in the tandem round.


Johan's elder brother Rudy Norman was too eyeing for a good position after an unsuccessful attempt the previous round. Rudy was seen in his flashy FX Formula S15, which too got fended off during the quarterfinals after a sudden death by Vincent Lim.

Lim Chee Leong returned to the championship after being absent for the first 2 rounds. He was piloting a 180SX


Lee Mun Hoong also made a comeback after missing the first 2 rounds, this time in a turbocharged AE86. If you think the engine bay houses a 4AGE, you're wrong. You won't find any pistons in there.


'Lorong Tikus' specialist - Johari Mat Salleh's AE86 was quick despite the track being not so 'tikus'. A supercharged 4AGE was lurking in there, making this car a wolf in sheep's skin.


You don't see a Toyota Corona often, but Mat Lampan show us how it's done to qualify into best 16.

Michael Gan and Mr K were both in the best 16, but luck wasn't on their side to advance further


Chong Kin Lok aka 'Loksifu' needs no introduction. Despite driving a NA-NA 4AGE (Natural Aspirated with No Aids), he got into the best 16 with a 97 point run in 4th position.
