Valencia ace Villa plays down Chelsea link
By Joseph De Lacey - October 04, 2006

Spain international David Villa has responded to rumours of a possible move to Chelsea by insisting he is happy at the Mestalla, and intent on staying.

"At the moment, the offers from other clubs do not matter to me," he explained. "Not long ago I signed a seven-year contract with Valencia and I am not thinking about moving anywhere."

Last year the 24 year-old scored 25 goals in over 60 games for Valencia, enough to ensure his call up to the Spain squad for the World cup finals.

After impressive performances in the tournament, Chelsea reportedly asked about his availability but were rebuked by the club.

The striker has continued his good form into the new season, scoring 6 goals, and is establishing himself as one of Europe's top strikers.

mana mari rumors nih :jeling:

Primera Liga Team Of The Week (Round 5)  Abhishek Thakur selects the best eleven performers in Spain's Primera Liga over the weekend.

Valencia were the biggest winners over the weekend as they smashed Nastic 4-0, but Recreativo and Deportivo picked up very significant wins to claw themselves up to within three points of the leaders.

Barcelona had their nervous moments against Athletic Bilbao, even falling behind, but returned to dominate and win once the Basques went a man down.

Elsewhere, Sevilla eked out a 1-0 win over Getafe to jump up to third, as Real Madrid dropped to fourth after a 1-1 draw with city-rivals Atletico, who really should have picked up three points.

This week's best line up in a 4-4-2...

Goalkeeper

1. Pinto (Celta Vigo): Last season抯 Zamora had to pull out a few special saves as the likes of Zigic and Munitis went looking for the winner.

Defenders

2. Diogo (Zaragoza): The Real Madrid discard stood out as Zaragoza clawed their way back to earn a point against Levante.

3. Dragutinovic (Sevilla): With Javi Navarro and Escude suspended, the Serb did a superb job to nip Getafe attacks in the bud.

4. Beto (Recreativo Huelva): The Portuguese was solid against Sobis and Edu, even as some of his team-mates gave them too much room. Good pressure and some superb tackles kept Irureta's boys from running away with it when they were dominating, and paved the way for a superb Recreativo win.

5. Capdevila (Deportivo): The wing-back celebrated his Spanish call-up with yet another superb display against Real Sociedad, showcasing a great mix of defensive and offensive skills.

Midfielders

6. Maxi Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid): Put in some superb runs, setting up the likes of Mista and Torres time and again, but also did his bit in Atleti stamping their authority in midfield.

7. Edu (Valencia): Handed out a footballing lesson to Nastic in the second half, as Los Ches ripped the Catalan minnows apart.

8. Santi Cazorla (Recreativo Huelva): The Villarreal discard seems to have become Recreativo抯 man of the moment. Once again he was their protagonist in a game they were clearly second best in as a team, but won 2-0.

9. Gavilan (Valencia): A dynamic display on the left, and some superb vision to pick Villa out time and again. A pity it did not get him a long awaited call-up, following Reyes's injury!

Forwards

10. David Villa (Valencia): Just how many teams of the week will he make this season. Two goals and an assist to round off another impressive display.

11. Forlan (Villarreal): A couple of timely goals to drag Villarreal into the top half of the table. Could he rediscover his form from two years ago!

Those Who Came Close

Maniche and Petrov worked hard to help Atleti outdo Emerson and Diarra,

Guti worked hard for Real Madrid, despite being a marked man on the evening,

Sinama-Pongolle was at it again, making immediate impact for Recreativo after coming on as a substitute,

Albert Celades was pivotal to Zaragoza clawing back a two goal deficit,

Deco, Xavi, And Ronaldinho all did well against tem men Bilbao in the second half,

Valencia's Curro Torres also deserves a special mention for his efforts on the right.
